Active Older Adult Programming

Senior Bootcamp

Increase your cardiovascular and
muscular endurance in this
ever-changing workout. Fitness and fun
come together as you alternate
non-impact aerobic exercises with
upper-body strengthening exercises
using hand-held weights, elastic tubing
with handles and a SilverSneakers ball. A
chair is offered for support, stretching and
relaxation exercises.

SilverSneakers Yoga

This class will move your body through a
complete series of seated and standing
yoga poses. Chair support is offered to
safely perform a variety of postures
designed to increase flexibility, balance
and range of movement. Restorative
breathing exercises and final relaxation
promotes stress reduction and
mental clarity.

Silver & Fit Excel

Silver & Fit Excel is for very active older
adults who regularly exercise 3 or more
days per week. This class is designed to
increase the participant’s flexibility, joint
stability, dynamic balance, coordination,
agility, reaction time, muscular strength,
power and cardiovascular endurance.

Safari Island Community Center offers a
variety of programs to our active older
adults. Some of the amenities available
include an indoor walking track, land and
water group fitness classes, spa, coffee
hour, Pickleball and more!

We offer both certification and recertification of American Red Cross lifeguard

Movies in the Park

Catch a flick with Waconia Parks & Recreation
in the park after dark this summer!

Featured movies will start at 8:30PM at the City Square Park pavilion. Popcorn
will be available for $1. Bring your own chairs and blankets! No barbeque grills,
alcoholic beverages or pets allowed. In case of inclement weather, an alternate

location will be announced.

Join the Waconia Farmer’s Market and Waconia Parks and Recreation for
music and fun on Thursday evenings throughout the summer in City Square
Park! We are teaming up to bring you fresh, seasonal favorites at the Farmer’s
Market starting at 4:00PM and live music will start playing at 7:00PM. In case of

Full Moon Canoe - 6/9, 8/5

Enjoy the light of the full moon while exploring Lake Waconia’s gorgeous evening waters—
start a summer tradition with your family! This program will provide brief instructions on
water safety and a paddling skills refresher as needed. All necessary paddling equipment
will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring headlamps or flashlights. This program is
offered in partnership with Carver County Parks, NYA & Watertown Mayer Community
Education and the City of Waconia Parks Department.
Lake Waconia Regional Park Beach | 8-9:30PM | $10/person | Ages 8+ | Youth must register & participate

Adult Stand-up Paddleboard Lesson - 6/22, 8/16

Born from Hawaiian surf culture, paddleboards can provide an excellent balance and core
workout or they can just be a fun, relaxing and easy method of exploring the lake. This
program is designed for beginner level paddlers. Instruction will start on land with brief
water safety, balance tips, and paddling strokes. Then we begin a gradual exercise to get
everyone standing on the boards out on the water. As the class progresses, you will have the
opportunity to experience the exhilaration of pushing your balance limits and splashing into
the water—lots of smiles ahead! All necessary paddling equipment will be provided.
Participants should come prepared to get wet; secure sandals or water shoes are
recommended. This program is a partnership between Carver County Parks Department, NYA
& Watertown Mayer Community Education and the City of Waconia Parks Department.

Log Rolling Day - 6/24, 8/19

Experience Minnesota History firsthand! Hop on a log and get those feet moving for a fun
exercise in balance, agility and core strength. Our Minnesota-made Key Logs are made of
plastic, filled with water and have training equipment that keep the roll-speed appropriate
for people of all ages and abilities. Log rolling is sport that is growing in popularity and is
great for kids and adults who want to try something new! Come prepared to get wet; water
shoes or secure sandals recommended. This activity is a partnership between Carver County
Parks, Watertown Mayer Community Education and the City of Waconia Parks Department.
Lake Waconia Regional Park | 10am-11:30am | Ages 5+ (youth must register and participate with an
adult) | $5/Individual | Min/max registration: 8 (total min)/10 per partner max (or 20 total) | Include

Adult Stand-up Paddleboard YOGA! - 6/29

Come out to try floating yoga! Paddleboards can provide an excellent balance and core
workout or they can just be a fun, relaxing and easy method of exploring the lake. When
paired with yoga practice, you get a more comprehensive body and mind workout. No
experience necessary to enjoy this practice. Instruction will start on land with brief water
safety, balance tips, and paddling strokes. Then we begin a gradual exercise to get everyone
standing on the boards out in the water. As the class progresses, you have the opportunity
to push your balance limits! This event is led by professional yoga and paddleboard
instructors; all necessary paddling equipment will be provided. Participants should come
prepared to get wet; secure sandals or water shoes are highly recommended. This program
is offered in partnership with Carver County Parks Department, NYA & Watertown Mayer
Community Education and the City of Waconia Parks Department.

Outdoor Recreators Youth Camp– 6/27-29

If your child loves exploring the outdoors, this camp is for them! Your adventurous camper
will get to hone their aim with archery, splash on our stand-up paddleboards, balance their
best on the slackline and log rolling, and get out geocaching for s’mores with our fun-loving
instructors. Instructors cover activity basics, safety procedures, history of the activity, tips
for future success and more! All equipment will be provided. This camp is outdoors and
campers should come prepared daily with a backpack, re-usable water bottle, sunscreen &
hat, snack, bag lunch, close-toed shoes and clothing for the weather; swimwear and water
shoes or secure sandals are required on the final day. Camp runs daily June 28th-30th at
Lake Waconia Regional Park and is a partnership between Carver County Parks Department
and the City of Waconia Parks Department.

‘A Kid’s Life’ Camp—7/10-14

During this five-day camp, your child will have the freedom to explore Waconia’s
natural playscape of parks, libraries, and historic places from the perspective of their
favorite critters. Through our unique recreation, history, and literacy curriculum, campers
will splash like a loon on the water with our stand-up paddleboards in the summer sun.
They will discover critter habitats by building shelters and geocaching. Learn about
composting, solar energy, and experience lots of other crafty activities and camp craziness!
Kids will learn firsthand about the history of Minnesota forests by trying the great sport
of log rolling and more. They’ll even get to meet some crawly critters during a live reptile
presentation! This camp encourages teamwork, nature exploration, and a love of reading
while promoting a healthy lifestyle for children entering 3rd-6th grade. Staff will accompany
campers as we bike daily from Waconia Regional Park to Waconia Library and the Historical
Society then bike back to Waconia Regional Park for pick-up. Bikes will remain secured at
the park (indoors) overnight. Please come prepared for the weather and equipped with a
backpack daily that includes: reusable water bottle, snacks, lunch, sunscreen, hat, closed
toed shoes, bug spray, and swimwear, towel, & sandals for the final day. Bikes & helmets are
required and should be dropped off on Monday and picked up on Thursday. The entire day
Friday will be based at the Andrew Peterson Historic Farm in Waconia.

Splash n’ Skate Camp - 8/8-10

Too hot out? We’ve got the answer at this exciting new camp: get out on the water or strap on
those ice skates! Campers will have a blast spending half the day at Lake Waconia Regional
Park beach and the other half at the Waconia Ice Arena testing their skills on the ice.
Experience the refreshing summer SPLASH of stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing, and
more led by Carver County Parks instructors. Get that ice cold SKATE fix with fun games and
experiential learning on the ice led by Waconia Parks Department instructors. All necessary
equipment will be provided. Campers should come prepared with a backpack, swimwear
and water shoes or secure sandals, towel, change of clothes, re-usable water bottle,
sunscreen & hat, snacks, bag lunch and clothing, including socks for the ice arena. Camp
runs daily, August 8th-10th at Lake Waconia Regional Park and is a partnership between
Carver County Parks and the City of Waconia Parks Department.

Paddle & Grub Club

Join us for ten paddle sessions from June-August for stand-up paddleboard, canoe, and
kayak adventures on beautiful Carver County waterways! Every week we will move to a
new paddling destination in the county for a water-bound ‘Tour de Carver’. Enjoy a social,
post-paddle atmosphere with club reservations to local establishments after each guid-
ed excursion has concluded. No experience necessary—the first two sessions will provide
basic technique instruction as needed. All necessary paddling equipment will be provided
and transported to the paddling location of the week. Participants will rotate between using
paddleboards, canoes and kayaks throughout the season. Club members will meet at the
designated paddling location of each session. Paddle on!
10 Paddling Sessions including a Sat. river trip for each:
Section 1 (Tuesdays): 6/6, 6/20, 6/27, 7/11, 7/18, 8/1, 8/8, 8/22, 8/29, *8/12
Section 2 (Wednesdays): 6/7, 6/21, 6/28, 7/12, 7/19, 8/2, 8/9, 8/23, 8/30, *8/19
$85/person club registration (does not include post-paddle Grub)

Canoe Excursion - 9/2

Enjoy a relaxing morning on the water at Lake Waconia Regional Park! This program will
provide brief instructions on water safety and paddling skills refresher as needed. All
necessary paddling equipment will be provided. This program will be held outdoors
at Lake Waconia Regional Park and is a partnership between Carver County Parks
Department, Watertown Mayer Community Education, and the Cities of Waconia &
Victoria Parks Departments.

Traveling Archery Series - 9/7, 9/14, 9/21

This archery class is an opportunity for all ages and abilities to try something new! This
program meets at a different park for each session and utilizes the NASP (National Archery
in the Schools Program) curriculum and format. Participants can enhance their skills further
if they’ve already been introduced to archery or begin their archery journey for the first
time! Commands, signals, techniques and shooting challenges are all part of the program.
This class will be taught by an instructor from Carver County Parks and all equipment will be
provided. This program is offered in partnership with Carver County Parks, NYA & Watertown
Mayer Community Education and the City of Waconia Parks Department.
Baylor Regional Park, Lake Waconia Regional Park, Watertown Mayer Ball Fields | 6-7pm | $20/person
