INTRODUCTION

CANVAS SUMMER PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

The summer professional learning opportunities

facilitated by the Digital Learning Innovation & Design

team focuses on several key goals:

Developing teachers’ skills to enhance communication,
collaboration, and instruction using Canvas LMS in the
classroom.
Providing support to curriculum writers to create lesson
and unit plans using a consistent framework, creating
engaging and rigorous student facing modules, and using
rich content-editor to write curriculum materials.
Engaging school based administrators in discussions for
using Canvas for professional learning and facilitating
growth in digital learning in their schools.

The professional learning opportunities available include

many flexible options including face to face workshops,

webinars, and drop in sessions. DLID Team members and

HCPSS classroom teachers will be presenting these

sessions.

This guide provides descriptions and schedules for each of

the professional learning opportunities offered in July and

August 2016.

OPPORTUNTIES

Canvas Camps 2 Hour Workshops

Canvas Camps are half day, hands-on, fully guided professional learning
experiences. There are three types of camps: Summer Refresher, Stepping

Up, and Canvas Challenge. Each type of camp is available as a series and
will address different tasks and tools for using Canvas in the classroom.

Participants can attend any combination of sessions.

Canvas Hangout 1 Hour Webinars

Canvas Hangouts are online tutorial sessions presented as a

webinar. Participants will review how to use different tools in

Canvas such as creating pages, using assignments, creating rubrics,

etc. Live webinars allow for participants to engage with the

presenter and ask questions as they arise. Recorded webinars will

be available for viewing after each session.

modules to work your way through beginner, intermediate, and

advanced user activities.

Design Lab for 2 Hour Workshops
School Leaders

School leaders are invited to attend the design lab with a small team

of 2-4 leaders to brainstorm, explore the power of online learning

experiences, learn how to use Canvas tools, and give/get feedback

on the implementation of instructional strategies.

Curriculum 2 Hour Workshops
Academy

Canvas Curriculum Academy are sessions for curriculum writers at
curriculum writing workshops throughout the summer. This
professional learning will focus on using the lesson and unit

frameworks, creating student facing materials, and general editing
tools. Additional or specific assistance for curriculum writers is
available upon request.
