What is Discover@BA?

Is one step, you will be able to search the BA electronic and print collections through our
search facility Discover@BA available through our website: www.bibalex.org/libraries

 Use the drop-down menu to limit your results by a keyword or a Subject or a Title
or an Author.
 Check the "BA catalogue only" box to retrieve results from the physical collections.
 Check the "BA subscribed materials only" box to retrieve results from the electron-
ic collections.

Searching:

a. Basic Search:

A simple search option in which you can enter your keyword(s).
Example: Use Basic search , Search for this keyword (Education in Egypt)

b) Search Options:

Before running your search, you can target your results more precisely by
clicking the Search Options link to reveal all of the available search modes,

1-Searching by Discipline
2-Searching using the Boolean operators AND/OR/NOT.
3-Limit by full text
4-Limit the search by Peer Reviewed.
5-Limit the search by date.

c) Advance Search:

If you search for items written by a particular author / Searching for articles within
a specific publication / Finding an article using incomplete information (if you do
not know the article title but know the author and the publication it is from.)
Example:
Use Advance search, Search for this keyword (Education in Egypt), Using Boolean opera-
tors searching for (Primary) OR (Elementary), Limit your search results by Full Text
only, Peer Reviewed publications, Publication date from February 2012 till March 2017,
English Language.

Viewing and refining search results:

1-Number of results.
2-Sort the results by Relevance & Data Newest/Oldest.
3-Page option result format, image quick view, result per page 5/10/20, Page lay-

out.
4-Limit your results by Full text.
5-Limit your results by Peer Reviewed publication.
6-Limit your results by Publication Date.
7-Limit your results by Content type such as Magazines, Academic journals, …etc.
8-Limit your results by Subject.
9-Limit your search result by Publication.
10-Under the article title citation data.
11-Collect all the articles you chose to add all to FOLDER
12-By clicking on the article title, you can find more details on the article such as

Subject terms, Author Affiliation, Accession number, etc.. and you can also lis-
ten to the article or translate it.



Searching history:

All searches performed during your session will be available from the Search His-
tory. You can delete or view or edit specific searches. Any changes you made to
your search are reflected in the Search History/Alerts window.
We can combine between the search history.
For example you can combine two or more topics the was searched before.

Saving (My Folder)

In order to save your
search results select the
results you need and
they will be saved auto-
matically in My folder

Your selected items ap-
pear in My Folder that's
make you print, E-mail,
Save as file. You can
also create subfolders in
your folder by clicking
New on the right of the
link My Custom.

Registering and logging-in (Setting up a
Personal Account)

It is useful to create a user account, where you can keep your search results in your
folder even after closing the database. You can Set up a Personal Account by Click
on the Sign In tab in the top toolbar of the

when you complete
them, click Save
Changes.

Create Alert

You can create alerts to provide
yourself with automatic e-mail
notification for specific topics
whenever new search results
become available.

1-Sending frequency once a day/once a week/biweekly/once a month.
2-Article Published within the last One month / Two months/ Six months/ One

year.

1-Alerts duration One month / two months/ six months/ one year.
2-Separate the e-mail addresses by Semicolon.( ;)
3-Enter Your Subject
4-E-mail formatting

Two Ways to Obtain Your Results:
E-mail: "Via My space"

Is a 30 MB personal folder provided to library members only to save your results. Use
the "E-mail" button to send your results as attachments.

Printing:
You can print through the allocated printing PCs and the print smart card. Ask about
the Print smart card at the membership desk at "Entrance level" in the Main Library.
Note:
It is strongly recommended to carefully read the “Terms of Use” of the individual e-
resources.
