Once upon a time, there lived a shepherd boy who takes care of sheep in a village. Every day, he used to take the sheep on top of the hill and bring them down by evening. But after a while, he started to get bored with his work. Then, one day…
He decided to have some fun. So he shouted loudly, "Wolf! Wolf! Can someone please lend me a hand ! WOLF ! WOLF ! A wolf is chasing on my sheep. "
The villagers in the neighboring area heard the boy's cries for help. All the villagers came to the top of the hill to save the sheep. When they came to the spot, they did not notice any sign of a wolf.
The villagers asked the boy, "Wolf ! Where’s the wolf ? Wasn't it you who cried for help ?" . The boy laughed and said, "There’s the sheep but there’s no wolf. It was a joke, ha! ha! ha!" .
Next day the boy played the same trick and annoyed the villagers once again. The shepherd didn’t feel bad at all...
It was fun, I think I'll do it again. Why not?... Wolf! Wolf! A big bad wolf is here! Help me, help me ! Wolf! Oh you're lying again ! Little shepherd, if you call us again, we won't believe you.
A few days later, a wolf really came....
The shepherd boy shouted for help. "Wolf ! wolf ! Can someone please lend me a hand ! WOLF ! WOLF! A wolf is chasing on my sheep!" But no help came. Everybody thought that the stupid boy was again playing his childish joke.
The wolf killed many of the boy's sheep.
The villagers went up the hill to look and found him weeping. The boy looked at them and said, "All my little sheep are here no more. Taken away by the big bad wolf. It’s all your fault. You didn’t come to help. Now I'm so sad and all alone. "
A man, one of the villagers, stepped forward and said, "Let this be a lesson for us all. Never tell a lie how big or small. No one will believe you anymore. Always tell the truth and nothing more" .
The boy felt sorry for his silly joke and he apologized to all the villagers for his mistakes. "Forgive me. I'm so sorry !"
