Encyclopedia of Daniel 

Avery
Avery was my second roommate in KIS dorm. He was quiet and kind of awkward. I wasn’t
that close with him, but he was a good roommate, though. We didn’t have many conversation
or entertaining stuff. However, we respect and understand each other in one room. It is kind
of impressing thing that understanding and respecting others because we were only 7th grade
which means ‘an adolescent boy’. I still think that it was a hard time for him because it was
actually his first year of KIS, but for me, it was the 2nd year. Now, he is still a good friend and
we are much closer than before.

Biology
Biology is one of my favorite subjects in my life. I started this year, but it was quite impressing
subject. The subject was about ‘Life’. Life was interesting and amazing things. I could learn
about many things that form our body and how our body form. In biology, I could experience
many other subjects too which were Genetics and Environmental Science. Genetics contains
information about gene and DNA, which makes human being form with universal diversity.
Also, Environmental science contains how the environmental condition affects human
population. These kinds of new facts make me have an interest in Biology.

Chameleon
Chameleon is one of my favorite animals since I was 8. When I was 8, I had one chance to go
to my friend’s house and observe his pet Chameleon. When I saw it, I just stunned. It was so
cool. I knew that Chameleon can change its color, but it was still cool. After that day, I
researched about Chameleon’s color change and I could found out that the color of
Chameleon changes because of environmental condition. It was interesting and shocking
information for me at that age. Still, I love Chameleon and I want to have for a pet some day.

Dog
The dog is one of my best friend in my life. When I was young, I used to tell my parents about
bringing the dog to our home. However, they said, “It would be hard for you take care of the
dog. The dog is not a toy. It is one organism which has a life.” I understand what are they
talking about. A few years later, I became 9th grade. My mom suggests me bring the dog to
our home. I was so happy that I promised her that I’m going to get good GPA for my dog.
Right now, It’s been 6 months since I brought my dog to my home. The dog is female and her
species is Dachshund. She is cute and loves people. I really love her and like to play with her
outside. Unfortunately, because of my school’s location, I can’t meet her very much. Dogs are
the best friend who will never betray you during life time. I hope many people can have this
precious experience.

Egg
The egg is my favorite food. The egg is a superfood, which contains many nutrients that are
very important for human to survive. In white part of the egg which calls albumen, It contains
pure healthy protein. By this reason, many body builder, athlete, and dieter consume 흰자, in
order to gain muscles for themselves. However, yellow part of the egg which calls egg yolk is
pure healthy fat. The fat from egg yolk is different from other fats which are kind of bad for our
health. This egg yolk is very healthy fat for a human being and another organism. For
example, egg yolk is very good food for dogs. Also to taste, the egg is very good. We could
even make several menus like fried egg, egg scramble, and etc from this one egg. These are

the reason why my favorite food is the egg.

Flight
Flying was my biggest dream when I was young. It was human being’s dream at the past
years. I love airplanes because it is so awesome machine with complex technology. This
‘thing’ that make human can fly without wings are one of the most important inventions in
human history. Flying was every mankind’s wish and dream since ancient ages. However, by
human’s unstoppable creativity and ability, we could finally achieve that ancient goal. This
‘thing’ make human’s life more comfortable and opened many jobs and economy. These are
the reason why I think Airplane, which makes humans able to fly is the best invention in the
history of human.

Game
Games are the best hobby that I ever found out in my life. These days, many game
companies are developed and developing. So, game culture and community could affect the
economy and people greatly. For example, South Korea is one of the famous countries in
game culture. There was happening about Korean in the game community. Famous game
company name Blizzard open game name ‘Diablo 3’. The production crew of this game
expects that this game would take at least 6 months to clear this game. However, Korean
players finish this game after ‘6 hours’ since Diablo 3 published in Korea. This happening
brought huge shock to the world and many Diablo fans. Also, game name League of Legend
is a famous game in worldwide right now. The player name Faker is one of the best players in
LOL and he became a super star from game community. By these reasons, I could have pride
in Korea game community and enjoy the game.

Home
In my 17 years life, I had several different houses. My first house was located in Kangdong in
Seoul. It was small apartment that I spent 5 years of my youth. However, because of my
mom’s business, we moved to Yeouido. Yeouido is also part of Seoul and it was big city. I
went to English kindergarten when I was 6 and successfully graduated when I was 8. From
Yeouido, I start my life of schooler. Ironically, I moved my house again, right before the end of
1st grade. The place where I moved was Mok-dong. Mok-dong was another big city in Seoul.
This is the place where most of my memories came from. In Mok-dong, I went to elementary
school until 1st grade to 5th grade. I could make several good friends during those 5 years. It
was the most precious experience and memories for me, but I moved my house to Myung
again. From this city, I finished my elementary school life. After 6th grade, I moved to KIS
dorm, which is my house(?) right now.

Instrument(musical)
Last year, during 8th grade, I decided to learn one musical instrument. By recommendation of
Jerry(who left school), I could met Ms. Henry who is kind and talented violin player who is in
charge of string class. Because of short member of cello, I could be member of string class
with cello. I was already 8th grade which is graduation grade. So, in order to participate in
class and perform as orchestra in school events, I had to practice cello in my time. So, I
practiced cello with contrabass player Sung and Yuji in music practice room. By doing this
practice, I could participate to the performance during fall festival and graduation.

Jeju
In my life, I had different point of view toward Jeju depends on my age. When I was 5 years
old, Jeju felt like long distance place to go and it looks like paradise with fancy and cool
things. However, right now, Jeju is just another place in south Korea where many foreign
travelers go for trip. I could found out that my expectation and imagination about Jeju went
down a lot. However, Jeju is still great place with amazing natural landscape. I keep forgetting
this unchangeable and precious experience because of familiarity.

KIS
KIS is the biggest change in my life. By coming to this school, I had to think about my future
seriously. KIS is school with great opportunity. I had to use this opportunity to make better
future of my life. When I came to this school, I was only 6th grade. However, right now, I am
9th grade. It’s been 4 years since I came to school. During that 4 years, I could make many
friends and memories. However, I never think of my future deeply before I became 9th grade.
I noticed the chances are coming for me and I also noticed that it is important for me. I could
prepare myself for future in this school. I love this school and I hope I could graduate this
school and keep all good memories in future.

Loneliness
The time when I came to this school, I felt huge loneliness. I was 6th grade dorm student. It
was kind of fun for me to play and live with other students, but I used to felt the feeling that I
wanted to go back to my home. It sounds kind of funny, but sharing room was not easy for me
to do at that time. Right now, I adapt to dorm life style because it’s been 4 years total since I
became dorm student. However, it was very hard time for me endure loneliness at that time.

Mom
My mom’s name is Okun Kang. My mom is the nutrient. She studied about food, biology, and
nutrients. She is very kind and hard-worker. She loves perfect thing so I call her a
perfectionist sometimes. I think ‘perfectionist’ is very good thing. She never forgets events
and she is always well-prepared for anything. I kind of admire her and try to follow her. Also,
she is the very good mother. She always cares about my sister and me. I always feel thanks
to my father and mother. I hope I could be a good son for them.

Non-verbal communication
Non-verbal communication is the very good method of communicating with others who cannot
understand the language or talk with different language. I used to use this method when an
opponent cannot speak English or Korean. This method is very useful and working very well
for everyone. When I was young(before I learn English) I use non-verbal communication to
ask the question or tell others my opinion in the foreign country.

Operation
Last year, I had nose operation because of adenoid. Adenoid is part of a nose which is
located in inside of the nose. It functions during young ages and has to be degenerated by
time goes on. However, my adenoids still existed and it blocks my breath path inside of my
nose. In order to run and breath well on the cross country team, I had to do the operation to
cut off my adenoid. It was the simple surgery, but it was kind of scared. Right now, my nose is
ok and I'm ok too.

Powerpoint
Powerpoint was the first program on the computer that I learned when I was young. It was
very useful and helpful program that I could still use it for my projects and presentations.
When I came to this school, I notice students are getting many kinds of projects based on
computer use. This kind of assignment was very easy for me to complete. I hope the
powerpoint program that I learn will help me in future too.

Quizlet
Quizlet is the program that I using for memorizing terms and vocabularies from English and
Spanish. When I came to this school, I used this site because of English class teacher name
Ms. Clanin. This site has the program which seems not that good, but it was quite worked
very well for me. I could memorize several words that I can’t memorize with writing down. This
site is still the great tool for me to memorize other things instead of words too. I hope
everyone could try this site like me.

Rap music
Rap music is one of my favorite genre of music. I actually love many kinds of music like pop,
ballad, piano, jazz, band, rock, hip-hop, EDM, and etc. However, rap music is the most
favorite genre. There are several raps talking about their life without any pretense and act.
They express their emotion and talk about their experience during their life. This kind of fact
makes me think hip hop is the great genre.

Short
Since I was in elementary school, I was the short kid. Every time in school, I had to seat in
front of the class in order to focus on the class. I didn’t know I was short until 3rd grade.
However, since that age, other students height starts to grow explosively until like 8th grade.
It was pretty sad that I just grow 2 or 3cm per year. However, I believe that I could slowly and
continuously. I hope I could reach at least 175cm in future.

Taekwon
Taekwondo is my name. I heard that my grandfather made my name. My name is made with
Chinese character and it means precious and the best. I actually thought my name was bad
because it was very hard to write and speak. However, since I learn the meaning of my name,
I accept the fact and I start to love my name.

University
When I came to KISJ HS, I start to think about my future. For my future, decide that going
good university is a good idea. I know it is not everything, but I still think a university is very
important in my life. So, I start to think about my dream and job for the university. I had to
decide my dream before I start something. These days, I think about what I enjoy and what I
can do well. It is hard to find out, but I’m just trying everything to find out my dream.

Video making
Video making is a thing that I had to learn in order to get the good grade in KIS. KIS gave me
so many types of assignment which required video editing. It was pretty hard for me to do
video editing without any knowledge of it. However, as the time goes on, I could naturally
learn how to use iMovie which is the program in MacBook that helps me to edit videos. This
school required many kinds of ability. This kind of requirement made me hard sometimes, but

in future, I believe this kind of experience will help a lot.

Word War Z
Word War Z is my most favorite zombie movie. The main character of this movie is Brad Pitt
is the famous Hollywood actor. In this movie, zombies’ act were pretty impressive. Their
walking and sounds were very realistic and scary. Also, the act of Brad Pitt and his colleague
was tensed. However, the best part of this movie was the story. The story very flowed
naturally. This is the reason why I think World War Z is my most favorite zombie movie.

X-ray
When I was 7 years old, I had huge accident by other kindergarten student. I still remember
that moment. While I was going to bathroom, one student ran to me and hit my left eye with
his head. Then, he just ran away and I got huge bruise on my eye. After that accident, I had to
check my eye with MRI and X-ray. After those check, I noticed that my eye bone is cracked.
So, I had to use eye patch and be aware of other things. It was my first X-ray check and it
make me think about that accident again.

Yellow
Yellow is not my favorite color. However, it is my race. These days, racism is pretty much
gone. However, it still exists. I don’t know why people talk about race and compare and
exclude each other. Every human being is same. They are the same organism with same
parts. I think racism is really useless and dangerous concept. This is the reason why I put
‘Yellow’ for Y.

Zara
Zara is famous cloth store. I and my friends love to go their and shopping. Zara has many
kinds of clothes. For example, they sell street, denim, and many other clothes. It is the pretty
similar concept of the shop with Uniqlo. We can buy many styles of clothes in one place with
inexpensive cost. However, the quality of clothes is still good even though the cost is cheap.
These are the reason why I love Zara.
