Jan. 3, 2019- Pi Theta Omega’s own Soror Laquana Best vowed
before God, her peers, her family and friends as she was sworn in

as a Board Member to Hillside’s Board Of Education. She was
joined by Mayor Dwayne D Warren, Esq. of Orange as she pledged

her time and efforts as an advocate for our children and their
education. And of course PTO Pearls were present to celebrate
Soror Laquana in her latest accomplishment. We are so proud of

you! #AKAExcellence

Jan. 22, 2019- “Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day was not only a
day of remembrance, but a day of service in West Orange, where
distinguished residents were recognized for their commitment to

giving back during the West Orange Human Relations
Commission’s (HRC) annual MLK Day celebration and “Love of

Service” Awards held at Liberty Middle School.”

Led by HRC chair and event chair, PTO Pearl Soror Tammy
Williams, this event gave recognition to citizens to exhibit the
qualities Dr. King embodied. Another PTO Pearl-Soror Carol Lynn
Patterson-opened the illuminating event with prayer.

March 24, 2019- Federated Church of Livingston will be presenting
the township of West Orange with the Good Neighbor Award.
Presentations will be made to the Mayor and our own Soror
Tammy Williams for her work with the Human Relations
Commission.

Soror Carolyn Minick-Mason sprinkled her Black Woman
Excellence as keynote speaker for The Jack and Jill Quad-Chapter

Founders’ Day event. As an tremendous bonus, Soror Carolyn’s
daughter, Chloe, also treated attendees to a recitation of a poem

entitled The Average Black Girl.

Soror Tami Grimes does it with ease!!! Congratulations to Soror
Tami Grimes for being named Teacher Of The Year at Walter O.
Krumbiegel Middle School. Thank you for being the standard and

Morgan Danielle Sumpter, daughter of Richard and Soror Nikki Sumpter, was crowned Miss
Debutante in the Winter Emerald & Gold Debutante Ball sponsored by The Arlington

Foundation for Excellence and Education and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc Xi Theta Omega
Chapter. Morgan was also in the following special award categories:
- Top Fundraiser
- Best Scrapbook

The purpose of the Debutante Scholarship Program is to provide scholarships and personal
development to eligible young ladies. The program is designed to develop leadership skills,
encourage unity, and promote community service and academic excellence in young women

through mentorship and life skills training.
Morgan will graduate on May 24th from a lake Ridge High School in Mansfield, Texas.

Tamia Blackwell, daughter of Soror Tammy Williams will grace the
stage in the Alvin Ailey Junior Division Spring Concert from Friday,
May 17th thru Sunday, May 19th at the Hostos Community College

(450 Grand Concourse Bronx, NY, Tickets are $20.
The Ailey School honors the vision of Alvin Ailey by providing
superior professional dance training and artistic leadership.
Students of all ages and nationalities come from all over the world
to train in our nurturing environment of creativity, passion, and

professionalism through an accredited curriculum led by
esteemed faculty, staff, and choreographers who produce

outstanding dance professionals of tomorrow.
