AIL AT A GLANCE

The Army Institute of Law (AIL) is a private unaided institute which was established in July 1999 by the
Indian Army under the aegis of the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) at its interim location at
Patiala. The Institute is permanently affiliated to The Punjabi University, Patiala and approved by the Bar
Council of India. In July 2003, the Institute shifted to its current location at Sector 68, Mohali, Punjab. On
01 December, 2003, the Mohali Campus was inaugurated by H.E. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the then President
of India. AIL has a magnificent residential campus in an impressive architectural structure in the vicinity of
Chandigarh and Punjab & Haryana High Court. It conducts a five year BA LLB and one year LLM course.

AIL has emerged as a hub of scholastic brilliance and owes this to a team of highly qualified and erudite
faculty members who lend a critical perspective to contemporary issues facilitating students'
comprehension and interpretation of various laws and statutes. With 'Aspire & Achieve' as its motto, the
Institute has grown as a Centre of Excellence in the field of legal education. Army Institute of Law
continues to pace ahead on the growth trajectory in consonance with the highest standards in the field of
education. This is amplified in its aims and objectives, pedagogical practices, infrastructure and other
features, that facilitate learning. The Institute plans to increase the number of seats and also start with
B Com LLB (Five Yr) Course for the forthcoming session subject to the approval by the University.

Dr Bajirao A. Rajwade I have had the opportunity to teach Criminal law to the outgoing batch of 2021 for two
semesters. A group of tight knit students who had a particularly affable and courteous demeanour.
LLM Ph.D Part of my classes were dedicated to open discussions on legal and other topics whereby this batch was
Asst Professor of Law always willing for a fervent exchange of viewpoints. Though each batch is rather dear to every teacher,
this particular one would stay in my mind for a long time. I wish them the very best for their future. The
(Criminal Law) only advice which I give them is to patiently carry on working towards achieving their dreams…
“Focus only on your goal… and the path will inevitably appear”.

With immense pleasure I introduce to you, the exemplary Batch of 2022 whom I taught Taxation Law Dr Puja Jaiswal
and Environment Law. The students of this Batch have a clear sense of purpose which is reflected in
their overall performance in the past five years, both in academics and in co-curricular activities like LLM, PhD, Diploma in Cyber Laws
prestigious moot court competitions both at national and international level; cultural and literary Assistant Professor of Law
events. The batch of 2022 has displayed diligence and intellectual maturityand they areresilient in their
spirit. I believe that the series of internships the students of this batch have gone throughboth in pre- (Environment Law and Taxation Law)
pandemic and in the on-going pandemic times have helped them to gain practical experience and they
are ready to face the challenges of the competitive professional world both nationally and globally. I
wish the graduating students the very best in all their future endeavours.

The batch of 2022 have such wonderful, amazing and versatile students who gave their best to
everything in the field of academics and extracurricular activities. Their keenness to learn, explore and
tread the untrodden path with a focused mind sets them apart from the rest. They always actively

Dr Sheetal Kapoor Diligent, Dedicated and Dynamic are the epithets that I associate with the batch of 2022. My
association with this batch of vivacious budding lawyers is reminiscent of a plethora of activities-
Assistant Professor of English Academic, Sports and Cultural that we have beautifully collaborated in. The humongous success in all
these activities, chiefly has been because of the unflinching support and concerted efforts of the
students from this batch. As the Coordinator of Abhayam- AIL Centre for Gender Empowerment, I
take this opportunity to credit students from this Batch, who have been working relentlessly to elevate
it to such a level that today it is one of the most prestigious Centres across the world. I am sure these
students will prove themselves to be assets for any organization that they join. My Best Wishes are with

2nd Surana and Surana and Army Institute of Law
Family Law National Moot Court Competition

The Army Institute of Law, Mohali, organized the 2nd Surana
and Surana and Army Institute of Law Family Law National
Moot Court Competition, held from 8th -10th April 2021. This
year’s edition saw the participation of around 37 teams from
various law colleges and National Law Universities from
across the nation. Due to the exceptional circumstances of
covid -19 the preliminary rounds were judged on basis of
videos of the teams that they made and sent for competition.
All the remaining rounds were virtual and for the semifinal
and the final the judges kindly consented to come offline and
judge the competition .The judges for the final round were
Justice Rajiv Narayan Raina (Former judge Punjab & Hry High
court), Mr. Anil Malhotra and Dr. Deepak Jindal (Adv Punjab &
Hry High court). Awards amounting to 50k were distributed
among the winners.

Virtuoso- Online Intra Institute Quiz
Competition

AIL conducted Virtuoso 2021 Virtual Intra Institute Quiz
Competition from 17th to 18th March, 2021.eight out of
twenty one teams qualified for semifinal round . The
Finals consisted of 4 rounds and after a Head-to-head
competitive spirit, the winner was declared. The
competition was a huge success under the guidance
and constant support of the Principal, faculty members,
and the Intra Institute Quiz Coordinator and the Quiz
Master for the competition, Ms. Ekjyot Kaur Gujral.

Checkmate - AIL National Moot Court
Competition

10th edition of Annual National Moot Court
Competition- Checkmate organised on 30-31st October,
2020. This year the competition was conducted via
virtual mode. This competition saw participation of
around 36 teams from reputed colleges and National
Law Universities from across the nation. The rounds
were adjudged by leading advocates and academicians.
The final round was held on 31st Oct 2020 and judged by
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Suvir Sehgal, Judge, Punjab &
Haryana High Court, Mr. V K Gupta, Former District &
Sessions Judge, HPCS-J and Dr. K P Singh, Former DGP
Haryana.

ALUMNI CONNECT

The AIL Weekend Webinar Series was an initiative
taken by the Placement Cell of Army Institute of
Law under the aegis of the Placement Officer, Mrs.
Pooja Nayyar, along with the entire Placement Cell
team. These series were conducted keeping in
mind the need to facilitate interaction and develop
a network among the current students of AIL and
our esteemed Alumni. However, due to covid the
entire series was conducted in online mode. The
main objective of these sessions was to enable the
students to understand and learn from the
practical experiences, including the challenges
faced by their Alumni. The sessions were proposed
to be conducted on the weekends given the
professional commitment of the Alumni. The
sessions had Alumni joining from the first batch of
AIL to very recent ones.

The weekend webinar series made its debut in the
second week of January 2021. Alumni who formed
part of these series were the topmost litigation
lawyers, most sort after entrepreneurs, corporate
stalwarts,ex-Army officers and top performers in
company sector etc. These sessions were
conducted in apanel interview format in which
questions prepared beforehand for every
panellistwere put forth to the panellists by the
moderator followed by the Q&A session open to
the audience. The sessions witnessed huge
participation and enthusiasm from the students as
well as the Alumni which made the entire initiative
a success. A step further would be conducting
these sessions in the college campus once the

ALUMNI WORDS OF WISDOM

The AIL Placement Cell took the initiative of organizing exclusive sessions for the first years and fifth years with some of the esteemed
alumni of the college.

The first session was held for the first years with Mr. Adhiraj Bhandari on 10th March 2021 on the topic of internships. It was
conducted in a pursuit to make them understand about the different kind of internships and how to bag them. He talked about
various topics including what kind of internships should be undertaken in the first year and the importance of research papers and
other co-curricular activities for the CV.

Another versatile and interesting session held was with Maj Pranav Prashar (Retd.) He talked about his experiences having lived both
the army as well as the corporate life. He gave insights into the difference between the military and the corporate world, how to
prepare for the exams and how to navigate the army life.

The last session was held for the graduating batch of 2021 with Mr. Manik Gupta . His session encompassed of telling the students
about his working experiences in the corporate, banking, finance and e-commerce domains. He explained about the varied working
atmospheres in these fields and how they can get to work for such diverse fields as law students.

The students of Army Institute of Law of have been quite active and take keen interest in drafting and
understanding of the agreements. They haveshown in their feedback as well that their knowledge and
understanding has improved considerably since the time they joined. As per their achieving the
timelines in drafting the contract, they have done marvellous work. Being highly disciplined is their
core competence which probably they have ingrained from their families or/and the Army Institute
of Law. It is one factor whichseparates them from the rest. In total, the interns have been doing a great
job in listening carefully to what is being said, trying to understand and come up with several questions
and then thesolutions independently.
