for longer periods of time (see research on the
testing effect).
Assignments (30%)

demonstrate your ability to identify concepts
learned in class in real-world settings.

and to demonstrate that you have developed individual mastery of the material.
Details: You will take 2 mastery exams to demonstrate your mastery of the

Missing Class
Class attendance is a valuable part of your learning experience. In this class, a lot of
learning and growth happens when we are exploring ideas together in class.
Students who miss class typically do not do as well as students who attend class.
If you choose to miss class, you are encouraged to review the slides and contact
a classmate to obtain notes, however your class engagement grade will be
negatively affected. **Furthermore: No make-up exams will be given except for
rare, extenuating circumstances.**
If you will be missing a class due to extenuating circumstances (illness, family
emergency, etc.), please contact me as soon as possible (at least a day in
advance, except in case of unexpected emergency). I will provide you with
quizzes/activities to complete if you want to make up your class engagement
grade for the missed class.
Late Work Penalty
You will lose 10% per day for late work.
Deadline Extension Policy
I get it. Life happens and sometimes a little
extra time goes a long way. For that reason, I
encourage you to be proactive! If you suspect
that you might not be able to make an
upcoming deadline please simply email me to
request a deadline extension at least 2 days in
advance. In general, I will grant an extra day no
questions asked*. However, if you have a
reasonable need and anticipate a longer
deadline extension, please contact me and
explain your need for a longer deadline
extension. I will determine if you qualify for a
longer deadline extension.
*Deadline extensions do not apply to the final
podcast nor peer review of the final podcasts.

Academic Integrity
All of us at Fairfield University are committed to upholding the value of academic
honesty. As a faculty member I am committed to exemplifying academic integrity
myself and to holding my students accountable as well. There are serious
consequences for academic dishonesty including receiving an 0 grade on the
assignment in question, receiving a mark on your file in the academic dean’s
office, getting an F grade on the course, and when appropriate even expulsion.
You are responsible for knowing Fairfield University’s academic integrity policy
and you will be held accountable even if you commit academic dishonesty
unintentionally. Please, please, please make sure you understand these
guidelines which you can find here! In general, you are expected to submit your
own work and you should give credit to any ideas or language that is not your own.
Having difficulty with the course work? If you are having
difficulty completing your work, please reach out to me. I am
happy to help, and I would much rather work our way to a
solution together than for you to jeopardize your academic
integrity.
Confused or have a specific question about the academic
integrity policy? If you aren’t super sure about what may
constitute academic integrity or would like to double check, I am
more than happy to discuss. Just reach out!
Can you work with your classmates? You are welcomed and
encouraged to share notes from class and study with your
classmates. However, you must work independently and submit
your own work on all graded assignments and exams.
