Matino, Mahusay at Maaasahang Kagawaran para sa Mapagkalinga at Maunlad na Pamahalaang Lokal 08 HOW THE IMPROVED PEAS ROAD PAYS OFF Physically accessible—this is one of the essential considerations the United Nations’ Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights noted that education should be. Hence, it is important that schools are not only situated within a reasonable distance from homes but also provide easy access to transportation especially in rural communities. Fortunately for the faculty members and young students of Peas Elementary School, the experience of commuting on a dilapidated road has become a thing of the past. The said institution, in the upland barangay of Duale, Limay, benefited from the LGU’s road rehabilitation work under the F.Y. 2020 Assistance to Municipalities Program. The project, with a total allocation of P6,344,000, included the removal of the existing damaged pavement and re-concreting of 600-meter segment of Peas Road approaching from the Bataan Provincial Highway. Also included in the design was the provision of curb and gutter on both sides of the sixmeter road. Satisfactorily, all this was completed by the Municipal Planning and Development Office in just 15 calendar days despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic. Now that the resumption of face-to-face classes is under its expanded phase, this newly-improved street is all the more beneficial to the parents, teachers, learners, and other frequent passersby. It makes one realize that, indeed, roads and education have something in common: investing in them can lead people to many places. BY MARK ANGELO T. PUMARES
