Bruised Nail
(BROOZED-NAYL)
Bruised nails is a dark purplish
spot as called Subungual Hematoma
(sub-ung-gwal he-ma-to-ma). The
cause of this disorder is usually a
finger slammed in in door, hit with a
hammer, or brick dropped on toe.
These nail injuries are common and
can be extremely painful. These
types of injuries can also cause
blood to pool visibly under a nail,
which is called subungual
hematoma. The hematoma occure’s
when an injury breaks open blood
vessels under the nail, causing the
Chloasma (KLOH-
AZ-MAH)
Chloasma (melasma) is an acquired
pigmentary disorder of the skin,
characterized by areas of
discoloration known as
hyperpigmentation.
Hyperpigmentation refers to the
darkening of an individual natural
skin color due to an increased
deposition of melanin, which is the
pigment that determines eye color,
skin color, and hair color. Chloasma
occurs symmetrically on both sides
of the face and sometimes occur in
other sun exposed areas of the skin.
Albinism (AL-BL-NIZ-
EM)
Albinism is an inherited disorder
that presents with little or no
melanin production, which results in
either little or no color to skin,
eyes, or hair. Its an extremely rare
condition(fewer than 1,000 cases
per year in the U.S.). There is no
known cure, but treatments can
help manage condition. They

Nail Pterygium (NAYL-
THE-RIJ-EE-UM
Nail Pterygium is a forward
growth of the nail cuticle over the
nail. A horney sheath protecting
the upper end of each finger and
toes of humans. A structure (Claw)
that terminates a digit and
corresponds to a nail. One common
cause is the skin disease Lichen
Planus, when a purplish rash
appears on the skin possibly even
on the mouth. Its blunt force,
trauma or rheumatic disease. There
Introduction
The growth of the nail plate is
affected by nutrition, exercise, and
the person’s general health. a
normal nail plate grows forward
from the matrix and extends over
the top of the fingers. Healthy nail
plates can grow in a variety of
shapes, depending on the shape of
the matrix. The length, width, and
curvature of the matrix determine
the thickness, width, and curvature
of the nail plate. There is nothing
to make the nail plate grow
thicker, it would require the size of
NEVUS (NEE-VUS)
area on the skin that is either flat
or raised. Dark spots (such as
moles and birthmarks) on the skin
are formed by a cluster of
pigmented cells, which are very
common and located on the human
body. What is the difference
between Nevus and a Mole? Nevus is
a benign, pigmented, raised or
other wise abnormal lesions of
skin, and a Mole is a pigmented spot
on the skin. A Nevus is slightly
raised and sometimes hairy, they
appear on skin that is covered or
