Life Positive May Issue

LP Magazine May 2020

The eventual purpose of human life is to reach the Source through Love, not by running away from the world, but by being in the world and spreading this knowledge and love.
Having read so much about the ‘state’ of the ‘One’ who is ‘Sthithpradnya’ (established in Brahman), I always wondered if I would ever get a chance to meet such a ‘One,’ because that would be one of the biggest blessings and inspirations in one’s life.
Meeting the Maitreya
During the two-day retreat called ‘Bodh— Awakening to Self-Realisation,’ we were fortunate to be allowed to have three minutes of one- on-one interaction with Dadashreeji on the first night of the retreat. I still remember that moment clearly as I entered the Shaktipeetham (the abode of Divine mother AadiShakti Mahakaali, which was then a small, sacred and beautiful thatched-roof wooden shelter). Dadashreeji sat on one side. I entered and offered my pranaam (obeisance) and looked at Him. He smiled. As He glanced at me, a wave of energy surged up my spine. His look was a knowing look, as if He knew me for many births and His eyes had something mystical and deep, captivating, yet an alarming innocence, as if it was Shyam Sunder staring back at me!
Feeling comfortable and relaxed, I asked Dadashreeji freely about my spiritual path of Jnana Margand, a little bit about my devotion to Krishna, which kept wavering. He said only one thing: “Think of Krishna as your friend; feel and spread love; and that Dadashreeji, Mahavatar Babaji, and Krishna are but ONE and the same reality.” This, I understood in principle, but I had my doubts about the practicality of befriending Krishna. Dadashreeji reassured me: “Before you leave from here, you will have Krishna as your friend.”
The next day, Dadashreeji spoke at length on the eventual purpose of human life to reach the Source through Love, not by running away from the world, but by being in the world and spreading this knowledge and love.
The last session of Bodh was the ShaktiPravaah (a sacred process, where Dadashreeji transfers His divine energy to us). Immediately after this, I had a vision, wherein I first saw some deities, then my previous guru, my parents, and friends, but there was no sign of Krishna. In between, I had to lie down because of the immense energy generated, which distracted me. And then lo and behold! I saw something so distinct that it makes my hair stand on end even now. It was Dadashreeji in the form of Lord Krishna! I thought that I was hallucinating, but the vision kept coming back again and again. An indescribable peace and feeling of immense love descended upon me.
It sank in much, much later: “I now have Dadashreeji in the form of Krishna, as my eternal friend and guide,” and then I just couldn’t help but bow down to Him for having given me this vision.

The grace continues
Back from Karjat, I was immersed in my daily routine. It seemed, that now I had returned back to my worldly ‘senses’ (rather the ‘non- sense’ of the ‘false’ world), when doubts crept in. At times, a weird thought would cross my mind: “Maybe Dadashreeji has some siddhi (mystical power) that makes so many of us attain these beautiful states. However, the feeling of oneness and love kept increasing over the days to come.
I distinctly remember that post-Bodh, when I would sit for my evening prayer, something made me reconnect to Dadashreeji within, and I would cry uncontrollably for hours and be in a blissful state of ecstatic happiness, which continued for almost a month.
What is it that Dadashreeji has bestowed? This experience defies all that I had ever read in the scriptural texts. I truly wish and pray for all seekers to experience this nectar once. What a difference it will make to them and their bookish knowledge! It was as if, there was an installation of software of the astral form of Dadashreeji within, with which I could connect with Him at any moment. It is a state of super-consciousness, with love exuding from the heart, the mind at rest, heightened awareness, and insurmountable energy within, to irresistibly go out and serve others.
With this began my surrender to the Divine power, which had chosen and accepted me unconditionally and given so much Love, incomparable to anything that the world can offer! I thanked Dadashreeji and prayed for that state of ‘Anyabhilashita shuny’ (being devoid of any desires, including even ‘mukti’ or liberation, other than the desire to please Him, and serve Him and His mission).
Serving the world with love
So my journey began in 2013. Many, besides me, who came in His presence, experienced a stark difference in themselves, taking with them something profound in their hearts. These seekers were not just from India, but also Westerners from Europe, the US, and other regions, who got an opportunity to be in His physical presence. This family, that began with seven awakened souls, now runs into thousands spanning India, Europe, Middle East, USA, UK, Russia, and is expanding.
Dadashreeji’s teachings are simple, yet very powerful and clear, with profound processes that enable one to truly connect, bond, and establish a communication with one’s higher Self. One of His core teachings is “The cause of suffering is the lack of Love.” He is here to give one that experience of divine, unconditional Love.
Love and selfless service is the foundation of the MairtiBodh Parivaar. Under His guidance, many social projects have been undertaken to help mankind in different ways. Maitri Yoga- the five-fold path, which has been introduced by Dadashreeji, will help uplift the present human consciousness to experience the Divine.
Despite all this, Dadashreeji only humbles you by His words:
“Is my guidance able to fulfil your need? Do you see transformation internally and externally on listening to my words of truth, peace, and care? If it is, flow with passion and witness the truth in you effortlessly. If it doesn’t flow naturally, you have a choice and the right to search for another source for your spiritual fulfilment.”
Guided by the Source
Let us further understand the core and intensity of Dadashreeji’s work.
Discovery 52

From time immemorial, human beings have been seeking happiness through worldly, transitory means, which fail to give complete satisfaction and permanent happiness. Only a few start seeking for the permanent source of happiness and the ultimate Truth. And so begins one’s spiritual journey. One encounters many different paths and spiritual techniques. The serious ones soon realise a big challenge: dealing with one’s mind. The mind is where lies pain and suffering, where there are innumerable demands and desires, and it seems so unrelenting and controlling!
This is where one needs true guidance and divine grace. Maitreya Dadashreeji is here to bring about a transformation. This internal awakening is not just achieved by theoretical teachings or complicated sadhanas or practices but in simple ways through various sessions and specifically by a profound process of divine energy called ShaktiPravaah. With this transformation, one unknowingly starts experiencing a lightness and the flowering of one’s heart, because the heart is where the very Source resides, and it has been subdued by the conditioned mind over many births. Many a time, this transformation happens just by being in the physical presence of Maitreya Dadashreeji Himself, as He is the very source of Divine Love. You don’t need to practise complicated techniques and understand complex teachings to reach the Truth.
So then, what is this transformation? Is this enlightenment? One of the most baffling terms which one comes across in the spiritual world is ‘enlightenment’, and it has been discussed by spiritual intellectuals, paradoxically those who did not experience it themselves, making it seem like a forbidden, unattainable rare entity!
Dadashreeji, being the Source, beautifully explains it saying, “Self-realisation is a continuous process of ‘becoming who you truly are’. Enlightenment is beyond that, when ‘you become what you are.’ Your true Self becomes the dominant force within. The layer of ignorance enveloping your true being is removed. This is a totally passive state, whereas awakening and Self-realisation may require an active contribution from you. In the state of enlightenment, you are free from worldly bondage and the mind is in tune with nature.” He further adds, “Is enlightenment the end of one’s spiritual journey? No. In fact, it’s the beginning of a new journey of your existence. We emphasise mainly on this next step of your spiritual journey known as ‘Transformation.’ The process of transformation is like a never- ending circle and continuous.”
Mukti for all mankind
Maitreya Dadashreeji wants this transformation not just for a few individuals, but for the entire humanity. This is a huge task, beyond anything that one can ever imagine, which only happens once in a millennium. Whenever the Divine has descended on the earth plane, it is for a higher purpose. Each form has a specific method, unique and appropriate for that particular period.
Dadashreeji says, “Before me, many have delivered teachings and techniques for your salvation and liberation. I am not here to repeat their message but to deliver ‘that experience’ in your heart so it becomes your personal truth.”
Dadashreeji is an internal experience. So close your eyes and go within your heart right now and connect to Him. Those who have known of Him and seen Him will know the experience and will be speechless. For the first-time

readers, connect to the Divine form of your choice or the formless, whosoever you believe in, and pray to receive the grace.
We call Dadashreeji, Maitreya. Maitreya is an internal ‘sthiti’ or state, where the Divine is one with all beings, exuding that pure unconditional Love. His sole purpose is to transform you and take you back to your true Home. His Maitreya state is of Supreme Peace, Supreme Bliss, and Supreme Wisdom of life and beyond. Yet, even while being in this Supreme state, He is one with all. Maitreya is an interactive mode. Through love and friendship, He will bring about transformation very smoothly.
The Divine has given me this vision to share it with you. It’s my personal truth and each one of you is free to discover the same. Let us all be wise to use Maitreya Dadashreeji’s Consciousness to transform our own self, to be a better human being and be part of this divine ‘Maitri’ mission, to help usher in a new age of love and peace.
As Dadashreeji says, “Use all the resources to uplift and improve yourself. When all your efforts end, allow me to work on you. You will witness that transformation you needed for long.”
Self-realisation is a continuous process of ‘becoming who you truly are’. Enlightenment is beyond that, when ‘you become what you are.’ Your true Self becomes the dominant force within. The layer of ignorance enveloping your true being is removed. In the state of enlightenment, you are free from worldly bondage and the mind is in tune with nature.”

JOURNEY
Conversing with Mother Earth
Shivi Verma sees the silver lining in the cloud of the current calamity and rejoices in the stillness of Nature—our One Being
E ven though the coronavirus scare has gripped the entire world, for some strange reason, I get buoyed by the fact that the planet has become one in body, mind, and spirit like never before. By the time this article comes out, perhaps, a lot would have changed in our circumstances, but as of now, I cannot help but notice how tightly the human race has been tied into a big bundle by Mother Earth and cast away in a corner, to reflect on
its priorities.
It is amusing to see how man’s illusion of being powerful and in control of everything has been beaten to a pulp by Nature, exposing to us our reality as well as vulnerability. That we are and were always at the mercy of Mother Earth, and it was her magnanimity which was letting us go on with our sordid and callous ways. Locked in our houses, we are looking for ways to spend our time and stay hopeful.
If I do not watch TV or read the newspaper which is, as usual, filled with stressful news, then I can say that this isolation is reconnecting me with the rhythm of the earth, its heartbeat, its pulse, and its silent whispers. Earlier, even as
I would secure my me-time, a otherwise stay hidden or quiet. All
thousand errands would run at the back of my mind demanding my time and attention, and sooner or later, I would have to pull my weight to get things done.
However, for the first time in my life, I am faced with a situation where life has come to a screeching halt. I have nowhere to run to, no unfinished tasks to complete, and no social commitments to keep. As though the Universe heard the humanity’s cry for peace, calm, and quietude and granted it in bulk.
The lockdown ensures that there is no human disturbance of any sort in my life, and it feels great. No maids, cooks, helpers, guests, or guards ring my doorbell. All shopping has been postponed, and the office is being run from home. I wake up with an incredulous smile on my face, pleased at the thought that I do not have to rush to reach office. I finish household tasks with the help of my mother and then settle down to the ease and comfort of attending to my office amidst the twitter and warbling of numerous birds whose songs I have never heard in my life.
The halting of human activity has given a boost to other species, which
other sounds and sensations too have become pronounced. The rustle of the leaves, the squeal of a child, the murmur of the wind, and the fragrances in the air, sweep over my senses, filling me with languor. As I get lost in these sensorial pleasures, I slip into a somnambulance brought about by aligning with the rhythm of Mother Earth. I begin to feel her heartbeat, the rise and fall of her heaving bosom, the inflow and outflow of her slow, reassuring breath. A sense of calm and peace descends upon me, and my heart begins to burst with an inexplicable joy. Thankfully, this is not my experience alone. Perhaps, we all have been forced into this situation to realise the value of what we are forfeiting for money and material comforts. As we reconnect with Mother Earth and tune into her energies, we get reminded of our roots, our real purpose, and our interconnection with the entire Universe. We are ONE.
Editor of Life Positive, Shivi Verma is a devotee who found all her answers in loving God passionately.

FREEDOM
Cash in on your Quarantine
Mala Thapar draws on her experience to guide us on how to make the most of our quarantine days
Freedom 57

failure, swine flu, and pneumonia. Her
pulse and BP were untraceable, and she was on a ventilator for many days. After more than one and a half years of treatment, she is in perfect condition today. I used to be my sister’s caregiver during her ICU, isolation room, and quarantine days, and we were together in it for 18 months.
In today’s coronavirus times, people are baffled as to how to quarantine themselves. Most of them are confused about what to do at home. Working professionals are also confused about business, economy, and work-from-home timelines.
I am not an economist, a politician, or a saint, but as someone who has been there, I would like to share my learning and experiences with you.
Make a conscious choice
Whatever the crisis or disease, the individual must make conscious use of positive words and be like a powerhouse of positivity. Search for at least one positive thing in every situation. Remember, “Every dark cloud has a silver lining.” When you consciously make this choice, it is seen in your body language. And you never know—it can give life to someone dying!
Before getting up from the bed, say “What a wonderful day!” The 24 hours are given to us by God to hope. During the day, try to live in the moment. Live in the NOW. While retiring to bed, make a routine to be grateful for three things that happened during the day. Additionally, seek and ask for forgiveness for three things during the day. Within no time, you will surprise yourself!
For a while, park aside the labels given to you by your office or family members. Don’t act like a CEO to your children, a management advisor to your old parents, a CFO to your partner, or a director to everyone at the dinner table. Don’t expect a thank you from your mother-in-law for the work done by you. Nor hold the baton of a ruling father or an empowered mother. Don’t hold on to the labels of being a son, daughter, wife, son-in- law, or mother-in-law at home. Rather, adopt a new label: ‘Be One.’ Be one with yourself and others. Be one with your family members. Here, it will require a lot of mental effort to let go of the labels. But remember what Alexander the Great said: “King or beggar, everyone goes empty-handed.” So, park your labels and enjoy everyone’s presence in your life.
Take a break; Rest and align
You have had a routine for many years. Suddenly, you have to halt everything, but your mind and body are still on auto-pilot. This is

the reason you are confused and unable to accept the reality in the first place. Remember, the brakes in the car are not to slow you down but to make you go fast. Also, if your car engine is switched on all the time, it will break down. Therefore, pull your brakes. Rest! Align your mind, body, and soul. Do whatever you wish to do or do nothing. Just halt and align. Soon, the fast-paced life will start, but by then, your engines would have been refilled to get, set, go!
Just make it
If you are quarantine shy, then please start with the principle ‘Begin with the end in mind’ mentioned by Dale Carnegie in his book Stop worrying and start living. When you think that your quarantine period has a last date, you make the most of it and make it memorable. Lots of emotions will come to the surface. Whatever you choose to do, make the most of your time.
Also, remember that Shakespeare wrote his plays King Lear, Macbeth, and Anthony and Cleopatra when he was quarantined due to plague.
What memories are you creating? I had no clue of ventilators, swine flu, medicines, the effect of food on body and mind, and the operation of oxygen cylinders, but my sister’s illness educated me enough to know what to do in times of crisis.
How about educating yourself during the quarantine time? Perhaps now, the Universe has given you this opportunity. You can educate yourself on anything, be it big or small, professional or personal, which the hustle and bustle of life has not given you time for. flights. Perhaps this is the time for you to learn something useful for a new role, a new job, or a new business. Prepare to face the new reality.
Hygiene is a mandate
We maintained a high level of hygiene, from the time of hospitalisation to the ICU to, finally, our home. Hygiene should be a default habit, but we had to educate many, including the medical staff, about its importance. My sister required 24-hours oxygen monitoring support for her lungs and pulse. People from the medical fraternity who had cold, cough, and flu would come for duty. This could have been fatal for a lung patient, but some had a ‘chalta hai’ (no problem) attitude. Therefore, we used to stop their entry and do the job ourselves. If any family member showed the same symptoms, they quarantined themselves for the sake of my sister and themselves. The corona virus has mandated the importance of maintaining hygiene, which was earlier a matter of convenience for many. Perhaps your leather shoes need to be polished or your almirah needs to be spick and span. Perhaps your child’s bag needs to be vacuum-cleaned, your kitchen masala boxes need new labels, your purse needs to be like a purse and not a mini-store, or your credit card bills need to be torn. Have a look. There are plenty of things that need to be cleaned and made hygienic. Just make hygiene mandatory!
Look within!
Did the world give you the time and space to read your own manual? Whatever is your answer, the time is NOW. Accept the fact that you cannot get peace by going to the

gym, dance classes, hangouts, movies, parties, investing in mutual funds, security bonds, or running marathons. The real peace is to be at peace from within when everything around you is a question mark. Real peace comes from inside and not outside.
You have to start with sitting quietly for a couple of minutes. The moment you do this, there will be a rapid-fire session in your mind. The monkey mind will ask for immediate solutions to all your problems in those couple of minutes. Just be a spectator of your breath. The monkey will be at peace sooner or later. Continue being a spectator, and you never know when, from the realms of your inner self, you may find a key to unlock the masterpiece you are. But for this to happen, you must ensure a quality quarantine for yourself.

MUDRAS
Mudras for ghting maladies
Abhay Kumar Shah suggests some mudras as protective measures against the Coronavirus
T oday, we are fighting COVID-19, a foe we know little about. However, we are aware of its destructive power. Not knowing how to win this battle, humankind is losing its confidence. We may come up with a ‘solution’ (vaccine), but what next? Do we have any vision for the
future?
None!
So what is the way out?
Adopting a more healthy lifestyle—yoga, a healthy diet, and a positive mindset—is the way ahead. We know that COVID-19 primarily affects people with low immunity and weak lungs. Current levels of pollution are certainly not helping. So, even under ‘normal’ conditions, we have to strengthen our lungs and immune system.
To this end, let me present some very effective mudras that will protect you from COVID-19. Praan Mudra
Using both hands, touch the tips of the ring finger and the little finger to the tip of the thumb. Place the back of the palms on the knees or on the thighs. Practise for at least 16 minutes.
Praan Mudra boosts our immunity, regulates blood circulation, and energises the respiratory organs from the neck to the diaphragm, where praan is located. Praan Mudra also strengthens our auric field, which has a salutary effect on our immune system.
Fuffus Mochan Mudra
In Sanskrit, ‘fuffus’ means ‘lungs,’ and ‘mochan,’ means ‘shield.’ This mudra protects the lungs against any ailment.
Touch the tip of the little finger to the root of the thumb. Touch the tip of the ring finger to the middle fold of the thumb. Touch the tip of the middle finger to the tip of the thumb. Stretch out the index finger. Place the back of the palms on your knees or on your thighs. A better way is to extend the arms away from the body, as if they are being pushed against two imaginary walls on either side. Practise for 16 minutes.
Mudras 61

Shankh Mudra
Put the thumb of the right hand on the hill below the thumb of the left hand. Wrap all fingers of the left hand around the right thumb, except the thumb. Now turning the right thumb, touch the tip of the right index finger to the tip of the left thumb. Rest the three remaining fingers of the right hand on the back of the left fist. Practise for at least 16 minutes.
Shankh Mudra has the potential to purify the 72000 nadis or nerves which originate from our umbilicus. It energises the thyroid and parathyroid glands, namely, the region of the upper respiratory tract. Disturbances in the windpipe and the food pipe are also remedied. It is said that Shankh Mudra removes negative energy surrounding the practitioner.
Abhay Hriday Mudra
Cross the arms. Touch the backs of both the palms. Twist and engage three fingers-little, ring, and middle, with the same fingers of the other hand. Touch the tip of the index finger to the tip of the thumb of the same hand, forming Jnana Mudra. Place the mudra at the sternum. Practise for 16 minutes.
All these mudras can be used as supportive measures to boost the immunity and respiratory systems, helping us withstand any virus attack. Concurrently, it is important to heed expert advice regarding the coronavirus.
Abhay Kumar Shah is a mechanical engineer, who has learnt Mudra Shastra from experts and established his own method of using this science correctly, and in the modern context. He can be reached at: [email protected]

SHARING
The oil pot on the head
Slowing down and enjoying the journey of life is as important as achieving the goals of life, says Vanisha Uppal
Sharing 63

M y grandfather was a self-made and crystal clear in my head that it demands effort
successful businessman. He was also
the backbone of our big joint family. Every day after dinner, he used to go for a long walk, really long...and I accompanied him sometimes for the ice-cream on the way back. While walking, he often narrated his future plans, “I will soon retire and hand over the business to your father and uncle. Then I will buy a farmhouse to grow fresh vegetables and fruits, or I might buy some land in the mountains and stay peacefully there for the rest of my life.” But, business and family tension kept him occupied and after 10 years he suddenly died. Despite wanting so much to retire, why did he not do so?
The effortless effort
Narad was a celestial sage. For many years he meditated on the mountains and in the jungle. One day after great penance he boastfully said to Lord Vishnu, “I am your greatest devotee in the three worlds because I never lose focus on you, not even for a minute.” Lord Vishnu put him to a test. He asked him to take a full circle around the mountain carrying a pot of oil over his head. The condition was to not drop the pot and spill the oil.
Narad took upon the challenge and after much difficulty, he managed to complete it. He happily returned to lord Vishnu, again bragging about his success. God congratulated him and then asked, “How many times did you remember me in the middle of this job?” Narad realised, not even once.
I loved this story, and read it many times. The daily struggles embroil us in such a way that we don’t realise when the day started and when it ended. There was no doubt left in my mind that this simple idea of ‘relaxing in the middle of our daily responsibilities’ is in fact not so simple. Even if so, the relationship worries steal away our remaining peace of mind. It got
64 LifePositive | MAY 2020
to be effortless.
Balancing the extremes
In the year 2012, I decided to get initiated in Kriya Yoga by Per H. Wibe and wanted to attend his residential retreat. It was not easy to cut myself off for a few days; six-year-old child, house chores, my classes (job) etc. had to be looked after. But Life helped me and everything was taken care of. The retreat was so relaxing, I forgot everything. There was no tension of the past or future. We had meditation sessions four times a day, ate simple food and rested our bodies. Being by myself, I went for nature walks and used the phone as less as possible. I came back home with new life energy but missed being at the retreat.
The effect of the retreat remained with me for some days, but soon I was back to rushed schedules, restlessness and anxiety. I could feel the big difference between home and retreat. I promised myself to meditation every day and continued my sitting practice. I enjoyed it so much that I was eager to go back to it each time I got up from it. The problem was that I had lost interest in the daily activities. Any activity or chore other than the practice looked boring and inferior in comparison. Now, I was on the other side of extreme imbalance. I kept wondering why this was happening? Why do I get carried away by outside impulses so much that sometimes it is impossible not to react?
Thereafter, I attended many retreats and Life supported me each time. I discovered that the rush to complete tasks is the cause of restlessness. “Rush is another name of the devil,” my grandfather used to say. I comprehended that if I slow down while cooking, cleaning, teaching, dealing with people, and at my job then everything will become meditation. It was a big discovery for me but it was not so easy to achieve and I often failed.

Unnecessary talking and skirting around necessary discussions steal energy. Spending too much time on the phone, watching television, and playing with gadgets increase restlessness. Altogether, the challenge feels something like walking on the razor’s edge.
The juggling game
During the time of writing this article, I lost my loving friend Kusum. She was also my landlady and only five months ago she had made this beautiful house. She managed her job, home and property-related issues, had good relationships with family and friends, and maintained her beautiful garden. She did them all with utmost perfection. She always worried about her children who were settled abroad. She looked fit, smart and healthy. And suddenly she died.
When she woke up that morning, did she have any idea that it would be her last day? She went for a walk, and hurriedly came back home to get ready for office. While working in her office did she have any clue of her oncoming death? Or while making the evening tea that she would not get to sip it? The next day I messaged her in the morning but never knew that she wouldn’t ever reply.
What is this? How can someone disappear like this? Who should we fight and whom should
we complain about? It was suffocating and I felt helpless. Everything around is the same; the celebrations, the noises of the world, but someone is gone.
Slowing down
This incident made me realise that we are not carrying just one, but two, three, four or more oil pots on our heads and are rushing to hit the target when we can’t hold even one pot properly. Is it not better to walk slowly as we have no control over the pots?
The challenges of daily life are demanding, difficult, and can sometimes make us cry. But it might be a good thing to realise that inner work is needed. On a strong base, multiple building floors can be constructed. This base is our inner stability and silence.
After having been to many retreats I learnt how simply one can live. The need of life is one small room, a bed, a table, a chair, a few pair of clothes, and good food. This experience itself slows us down. Even if we have some targets, sooner or later, they will all be achieved if we are sincerely working towards them. It takes only a minute for God to decide and for us to get them. But most of the time, it is about the journey towards it. And this journey could be beautiful and enjoyable if we are not rushing.

SPIRIT
A pregnant pause
Could the coronavirus be a portal to a New Earth, asks Suma Varughese
T hat we are living is over. Whether the economy will formation of the human family?
in the strangest of
times is possibly an understatement. Even the most florid imagination could not have summoned up a situation in which the whole world would have submitted itself to a lockdown that kept the streets empty, malls, schools, theatres, offices, and industries shut, and all citizenry indoors, thanks to an invisible virus whose name I hardly need to spell out.
A virus has arrested the wheels of industry, put a halt to the ceaseless pollution of our air, water, and soil, prevented the depredation of nature and the fearful release of technology, such as 5G, that may well destroy what is left of the world, stopped the fishing, made man realise his vulnerability, brought him back to the family fold, and above all, put the whole world on pause.
There can be nothing more powerful than a pause. It is the pause between the notes that causes the music, the pause between each alphabet and word that renders this piece you are reading intelligible. A pause is cause for great creativity and great change.
survive is an open question, but even if it does, it will be vastly depleted. And, perhaps, just perhaps, many messiahs of capitalism will use the pause to consider how much better the world appears with industry closed. The skies are blue, the air is clear, and the rest of the species is taking back their space. Surely it will occur to them that clean air, soil, and water are immeasurably more precious than any product on earth?
Meanwhile, trapped at home, families are finally spending quality time together, eating home-cooked meals. Men are finally picking up the household gauntlet and working shoulder to shoulder with their wives. With housemaids gone, everyone is taking responsibility for cleaning up their own messes. The virus is forcing us to shape up, toughen up, and get stronger.
There is also greater recognition of the interconnection of humanity. We are all in this together. Either we all win or we all lose. Even if there is one person left in the world with the virus, we are not safe. And have you noticed how the virus has put an end to all the conflicts and turmoil in the world? No more riots in Delhi, no insurgency in Kashmir, no trouble anywhere in the world, because we are all too busy fighting a common foe. Under these circumstances, can we
A good number of people are working from home, but for many, even their livelihoods are on pause and it is easier to be in the present moment and to simply partake of the events of the moment. To enjoy the call of the koel, to relish the simple joy of family time, to do what needs to be done. Finally, our busy, scheming mind has been put on pause, and who knows what change that may bring?
The pause is also going to make us introspect on our life and choices. Am I loving my work, or am I in it only for the money? Are my relationships doing all right or are they frayed at the edges?Am I moving in the right direction or have I gone off the grid? What kind of a person am I? Am I proud of who I am, or is there scope for change?
So, here is what I am hoping. This pause could well be the portal to the New Earth. If enough of us wake up, we could perhaps create a way of life that is more holistic, less materialistic and greedy, more loving and kind. Whew, what a masterstroke on the part of the Universe!

POSITIVE FOCUS
Will you have a baby?
Though a parent-child relationship is one of the most sacred relationships, a few people have to face hardships in it too. The relationship depends on the position of a few planets in the parent’s chart and the positions of the 4th and 9th houses and their lords in the child’s chart. In Vedic astrology, we call this relationship ‘Santan Sukh.’
• In the parent’s chart, the 5th house is responsible for children, the 9th house controls the relationship with the offspring, i.e., Santan Sukh, and the 1st house conveys self-image and self-satisfaction.
• In the parent’s chart, if the lord of the 5th house is malefic and positioned in the 6th, 8th, 10th, or 12th house, then the parent will be far from having Santan Sukh. The child will stay away from the parent; they can misbehave and be unruly too.
• If Rahu is positioned in the 5th house of the parent’s chart, then there is a good chance that the relationship will be affected due to misunderstanding. The parent may lose their position and respect in society due to their child’s scandals and bad behaviour.
• If the 5th house has afflicted Mars along with Saturn or Rahu, then the parent may face property loss, legal litigation, or even police interference due to their child’s action.
• Malefic debilitated Mercury in the 5th house, joined with Ketu, can cause misunderstandings between the parent and child for insignificant reasons and it can last for their whole life.
• If Lagna is afflicted and the 5th, 9th, or 12th house contains debilitated Jupiter, Rahu, or Ketu, the parent will never get a taste of Santan Sukh.
• If the 5th house of the parents’ chart contains benefic Venus, Jupiter, or Moon, then they will have respect from their children. Benefic Venus in the 5th house is responsible for the children going on foreign tours and also their material wealth. Benefic Jupiter provides peace. Benefic Moon is responsible for good emotions and a caring attitude of the children towards their parents.

Gandhi revisited
The Science of Peace
Author: Suman Khanna Aggarwal Publisher: Jnanada Prakashan Pages: 142
699
By Shalini Shekhar Former Editor, Life Positive Books
Every shred of Gandhi’s life is out in the public domain. “Can there really be a fresh perspective to view the Gandhian thought?” I wondered, as I picked up this book by Suman Khanna Aggarwal, retired associate professor of philosophy from Delhi University, peace activist, and founder of Gandhian NGO, Shanti Sahyog. Is there really a way in which the unheedingly destructive human race can be brought to heed this frugal ascetic?
Presenting Gandhi’s teachings as a practical science, Dr Aggarwal shows that Gandhi’s philosophies are the only way forward in the long term. She begins by analysing conflict, violence, and war. Conflict is natural and needn’t necessarily be a negative thing. It is the human propensity to resolve conflict through violence that leads to war, which has colossal costs in terms of lives as well as resources. Thus, choosing nonviolence is only logical. In Gandhi’s own words, “The Law of Nonviolence, which is the Law of Love, is the Law of our species.”
Gandhi was convinced that principled nonviolence could triumph over any oppressive force. To translate this into action, he evolved the strategy of satyagraha or non-violent direct action. It translates as ‘firmadherencetotheTruth.’It consists of opposing oppressive laws through peaceful cooperation.
Dr Aggarwal then offers an analysis of Gandhi’s famous Dandi Salt Satyagraha, which is of abiding significance to the
peace activist in particular. She says, “Gandhi’s Salt March is an example of non-violent direct action strategy par excellence. The Satyagraha created a nation out of 500 million Indians in 26 days.”
She also discusses Gandhi’s Shanti Sena, a non-violent volunteer peacekeeping programme, dedicated to minimising communal violence within Indian society.
The last chapter is one of hope, of the Gandhian approach of non-violent conflict resolution as being the only sustainable one. She goes on to trace the history of the evolution of CBD or Civilian-based Defence and her own role in it, culminating in the establishment of Shanti Sahyog. She ends with an appeal to readers to align themselves with Nonviolent Defence in this 150th birth anniversary year of Gandhi.
The appeal of this book is in the compelling urgency of not just remembering Gandhi but of following him in thought and action.

Heal (documentary film) Director: Kelly Noonan Time: 1:46 Min
“It’s not just that dis-ease starts in the mind, it’s that everything starts in the mind.” says the voiceover in the documentary film Heal.
There have now been countless revelations that our thoughts, beliefs, and emotions affect our lives in more than just one way. We are not only physical entities but energies and particles in the physical realm, vibrating at different frequencies. And it is time we start thinking whether modern medicine is doing more harm than good in the long term.
The documentary film Heal takes us on a scientific and spiritual journey and aims to change one’s perceptions about the human body by revealing that it can heal itself from any dis-ease. With the simple example of experiencing the self-healing power of our bodies when we get a minor cut, the documentary hopes to remind people of the innate intelligence of our bodies. Featuring eminent personalities like Dr Deepak Chopra, Dr Joe Dispenza, Bruce Lipton, Peter Crone, Marianne Williamson, Michael Beckwith, Gregg Braden, and others, the film explores the mind-body connection. Heal discusses that the constant state of stress is a result of the fight or flight mode that we function in, draining the resources and energies of our bodies, and thus it also becomes one of the most plausible causes for our immune system to be compromised.
Very fittingly, the film explores the notion of a human body being composed of both physical and spiritual components. And Western medicine, while processing health and disease,
does not account for the whole body and the spiritual aspect, often treating the body as a machine. Mostly, it is so that only the affected part of the body is treated for the symptoms and not for the root problem. Heal attempts to dissect the ways in which spiritual healing matters to physical healing, and it does a good job detailing alternative approaches to healing.
The film brilliantly aims to convey that we have more power over our bodies than we’ve been led to believe. Tapping into the minds of scientists and spiritual teachers, the movie follows the path of three people on their journey of healing. Modern medicine can indeed do miracles with physical trauma, but the holistic approach aims to create a shift in biology by altering self-belief and thoughts. The documentary opens doors for discussions among people to come up with a better approach to complete health.

TEACHING STORY
THE MOST IMPORTANT BODY PART
A young girl and her mother used to play a game where the mother used to ask her about the most important part of the body. At first, she thought that sound was very important to humans, so she said, “My ears.” The mother said, “No, dear. Many people are deaf and still continue with their lives But you keep thinking about it. I will ask you again soon.”
Several years passed before the mother asked this again. This time, after contemplating seriously, the girl replied, “Our eyes.” But again, it wasn’t the correct answer since many people are blind. Stumped again, the little girl continued her quest for knowledge. One year, when her grandpa died, everybody around was sad and crying.
When it was time to say the final goodbyes, the mother held the little girl and gently asked her the question again. Seeing the confusion on her daughter’s face, the mother said, “This question is very important. It shows that you have really lived your life. For every body part you gave me in the past, I have told you that you were wrong and I have given you the reason why. But today is the day you need to learn this important lesson.” She continued, “My dear, the most important body part is your shoulder. Because it can hold the head of a friend or a loved one when they cry. Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometime in life. I only hope that you have enough love and friends so that you will always have a shoulder to cry on when you need it.”
Then and there, the little girl understood that the most important body part is not a selfish one. It is sympathetic to the pain of others.

THIS, I KNOW
• As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.
• Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens.
• When an inner situation is not made conscious, it appears outside as fate.
• The word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.
• The shoe that fits one person, pinches another. There is no recipe for living that suits all cases.
• If one does not understand a person, one tends to regard him as a fool.
• Man’s task is to become conscious of the contents that press upwards from the unconscious.
ONE-MINUTE WISDOM
THE WARRIOR’S DESTINY
A great Japanese warrior was going to war with a fierce enemy with only one-tenth the number of men the opposition commanded. He knew that he could win the fight with a well-planned strategy, but his soldiers were in doubt.
On the way, the leader stopped at a Shinto shrine and told his men: “After I visit the shrine, I will toss a coin. If it’s heads, we will win; if tails, we will lose. Destiny holds us in her hand.” After offering prayers, he came forth and tossed a coin in front of his men. Heads appeared. The soldiers were filled with confidence and were eager to win the battle.
“No one can change the hand of destiny,” one of his attendants told him after the battle. “Indeed not,” said the warrior and showed the coin which was doubled with heads on both sides.
JUST FOR LAUGHS
CATHOLIC SCHOOL
Little Zachary was doing poorly in maths, and after trying every possible way to help him, his parents enrolled him with a local Catholic school. The first day, after coming from school, Zachary went straight to his room and started studying. This went on for some time, while the mother tried to understand what made such a difference. Finally, his results came out and his report card showed an ‘A.’
His mother was surprised and went to his room and asked, “Son, what was it? Was it the nuns?” The little boy shook his head. “Well, then,” she asked, “was it the books, the discipline, the structure, the uniforms?”
Zachary looked at his mother and said, “No. It was on the first day of school when I saw that guy nailed to the plus sign. I knew they weren’t fooling around.”
