Gita Sar

Tasmat pernmye prnidhaye kayam prsadye tvam ahm esham edyam. Pitev putrasye skhaev skhyu priya priyaye arhsi dev sodhum.
Therfore, bowing down and prostrating my body before you,
I beg of your grace, o adorable lord!
As a father to his son, as a friend to his friend, as a lover to his beloved, So should you, the adorable Lord, bear with me.

(11:44)
Maya - illusion, God's illusive power to keep all beings under illusion. Maya has been defined as "jo dise so maya" i.e. whatever is visible is maya. It keeps changing.
It is not certain (permanent).
only God is imminent.

I. Fundamental Principles of Sanatan Dharam (Eternal Everlasting Religion)
1. Ekam sad, viprah bahuda vadanti
Ultimate reality (God) is one, the sages call it by different names.
2. Vasudeiv Katumbkam
The whole world is one family of Lord God.
3. Sarv Dharam Sam-Bhav Equal respect for all religions.
4. Ahm Brahm asmi; Tat tvam asi
I am (potentially) God, that thou art.
It means everyone of us has the capacity to realize God, within us.
5. Ishwar ansh jiv avinashi, chetan amal sehaj sukh rashi;
So maya vash bhaiyo gosain, bandhyo keer mrket ki nyain.
‘The soul being God-particle is indestructible, it is fully conscious, immaculate, a capital of delights and joys’. Gosain Tulsi Das ji says, ‘the same having come under the influence of Maya (illusion), is now captive like a parrot and a monkey’.
6. Grur brahma, grur Vishnu, grur devo maheshwra;
Grur sakshat par-brahm, tasmey sri gurve namahe!
Guru is god Brahma, guru is god Vishnu, guru is god Mahesh. Guru is personified God Par-brahm, the ultimate reality.
So, bow to the Guru (the Master).
103

7. Sri Guru pad nakh gan mani jyoti;
Sumirit jas divye dristi hiye hoti.
‘One nail of guru’s foot is equal to the light of a heap of jewels; Remembering Him one’s heart is blessed with divine sight’.
8. Sarve bhavantu sukhina, sarve santu niramya;
Sarve bhadrani pashayntu, Ma kashchit bha Bhavet.
Let all be happy; let all be noble, let all be benefited, let all have a long life.
9. Matri devo bhav, pitri devo bhav, acharaya devo bhav, atithi devo bhav Regard your mother as god, father as god, teacher as god and guest as god.
10. Jo brahamande soi pindae, jo khoje so pave
Whatever there is in Cosmos, is enshrined in our body (in miniscule form). He who searches, finds. It means we have to go within ourselves through one-pointed attention (i.e. meditation) to see everything. That way we can first realise ourselves and then realise God also.
Self-realisation before God-realisation.
11. Amritasya Putrah (Children of immortality)
Since God, ultimate reality is immortal. Our soul being a particle of God, is also immortal. So, we are all ‘Amritaysa Putrahs’.
12. Isha vasya idam sarvam, yat kincha jagatyam jagat
Whatever had, does or will exist and wherever exists, whether it is moving or not moving, is permeated by the same divine power and force.
It means in the ultimate analysis all is manifestation of the divine. Whatever exists is really the same energy appearing as a particle or as a wave.
104

13. 14 15
Lokah samastah sukhina bhavantu
May all beings everywhere live happily forever.
Brahm satya, jagat mithya.
Only God is true. The world is false, ephemeral.
Eko Brahm, dutiya nasty.
Ultimate reality (God) is one, without second (None else).

II. Reflections on International Yoga Day – 21/06/2015
Yoga is yogasans, physical postures to keep our body slim and trim. Daily exercise of all limbs keeps us physically fit and mentally alert. Surya Namaskar or Shish Asan are just examples. Other asans and breathing exercises (pranayam) such as Kapal Bhati are also as important as others. These are just like physical exercises taught in schools or armed forces.
Yoga is also moral code so important for a decent social life. Five Yams and five Niyams (Do’s and Don’ts) emphasize Love, Ahimsa (Non- Violence), Satya (Truth), Astya (Non-greediness) etc bring contentment, truthfulness and respect for all life, in practitioners.
Emphasis on Brahmcharya (celibacy) makes one disciplined and brings healthy social life. Brahmcharya, particularly in early life is so important to build our health, make us healthy, wealthy, wise. It is not just celibacy, Brahmcharya in broader sense also means ‘search for God’, as described by Gandhiji.
Yoga is also yog or yoke meaning linking one’s soul to the Word, Aumkar, sound resounding within. Word, Shabd, Nirmal Nad, or Nadai Sultani is the dynamic force that resounds within us to keep us alive. Om, Omni, Amen, are the same, derived from the same Omnisonal root Sabd (Sound). It is the force that sustains and supports the whole cosmos. Through yoga, we yoke our soul or consciousness with the Word through Dhyan, Dharna and Samadhi (Meditation). It is so secular, so necessary for whole mankind.
106

Sage Patanjali defines yoga as, “chitt vriti nirodh yoga” (yogsutra I). So, yoga is not only linking of our soul with the supreme dynamic force, the Word, it is also, controlling the distractions of the mind (yogsutra I). Actually, controlling the distractions of the mind, and linking of our soul with the supreme power is one and same thing. When mind, the invincible, is controlled, our soul automatically merges in the Word, the supreme creative power i.e. God, our Parampita Parmatma.
And this is what the message of the Gita is.
