Octopus

Instructions: Designate two octopi.The persons with the closest birthday to today’s date is deemed
the octopus. Every player “fish” is to line up on one side of the gym and the octopus stand in the
middle of the gym floor. When the octopi yell “octopus” everyone must run to the other side of the
gym. If the octopi tag you then you become “seaweed”, the octopi can tag more than one person.
Seaweed sits where they were tagged and aids the octopi in tagging other players. Once all fish are
caught the game is over. The last person “fish” left is now the “octopus.” All the game continues.

Objective: Tag all the players

Equipment: There is no equipment necessary.

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Snake Tag

Instructions: Start out with three to four in a group. Try to get as many groups as possible and leave
a person as "it". The members of each group “attach together” by holding onto the waist of the
person in front of them to form a snake. The person in front is the head and the person in the back
is the tail. To start, the person that is "it" must catch the tail of one of the snakes and attach to it. If
he/she is successful, the head must come off and he/she is now "it".

Objective: You are to twist and turn your snake to keep from losing your head.

Equipment: There is no equipment necessary.

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Freeze Tag

Instructions: Designate two persons to be “it”. Spread out on the gym floor. When the game starts
the players must skip around and try to not get tagged. If your tagged you must freeze wherever
your standing. You can only become unfrozen when another player tags your shoulder and double
high-5’s you.

Objective: Try not to get tagged and/or unfreeze players

Equipment: There is no equipment necessary.

Key Skills: Locomotion and basic social skills

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Tug Of War

Instructions: Place a bandanna around the middle of the rope. Place a cone on the gym floor. Make
sure you have an equal number of players on opposite sides of the rope. Pick up the rope and aline
the bandanna on the rope to the cone on the floor. When prompted by the referee pull the rope as
hard as you can.

Objective: Get the bandanna to your side of the cone

Equipment: Rope, bandanna and a cone

Key Skills: Pulling, Stability

Space Requirement: The entire gym floor

Time Requirement: Max 2 minutes

Four Squares

Instructions: There are a total of four squares. One player must stand in each
square. Bounce the ball into another players square and don’t let the ball
bounce twice in your square. When that player is out the game is paused and
another player takes his/her place.

Objective: Don’t let the ball bounce twice in your square.

Equipment: A ball and a space designated to play for squares

Key Skills: Agility and hand-eye coordination

Space Requirement: the space designated to play four squares

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Red Rover

Instructions: The players are to form two opposing lines while their arms are
linked together and attempt to break through the opposing team’s line. The
side to the right of the coach is the first

Objective: Break through the opposing teams line
Equipment: There is no equipment necessary.

Capture The Flag

Instructions: Divide the class into two teams. Everyone gets a waistband. Once
the whistle is blown each team attempts to collect flags from the opposing
teams players.

Objective: Capture are many flags from the opposing teams as possible
Equipment: capture the flag waistbands

Space Requirement: The entire gym floor
Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Dodgeball

Instructions: The players run to the middle of the court to collect the balls
laying on the dividing line. Throw the ball at the opposing teams players to
eliminate them. If the ball is caught by the player then the “thrower” is out.
Players can only go out of bounds to retrieve “dead” balls.

Objective: Eliminate all players by throwing the balls at them.

Equipment: Dodgeballs

Key Skills: pitching, aiming, veering and locomotion

Space Requirement: The entire gym floor

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Red Light, Green Light

Instructions: Everybody stand on the red line. When the coach yells “green light” the players are to
run to the other end of the gym. If the coach yells “yellow light” you have to start walking towards the
other side of the gym. If the person yells “red light” the players are to stop all movement. If the
players don’t stop he/she is out! The first players to make it to the otherside of the gym is the winner.

Objective: Make it to the other side of the gym

Equipment: No equipment is necessary

Key Skills: listening and locomotion

Space Requirement: The entire gym floor

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Silent Ball

Instructions: Everyone stands in a circle. A ball or object of your choice will be
thrown to other people, if you make noise, you are out. The last person
standing wins.

Objective: Be the last person standing

Equipment: A ball or safe object to throw

Key Skills: hand eye contact

Space Requirement: A small space on the gym floor

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Run Rabbit Run

Instructions: half of the group are called foxes and the other half are named rabbits. Rabbits are
standing behind a line at one end of the play area. Foxes are scattered all over the gym. The captain
Rabbit leads his/her brood for a “walk.” The leader of the fox’s says: “Run Rabbit Run.” All rabbit
attempt to run “home” the other baseline. All tagged rabbits become foxes, continue the game until
all rabbit have been tagged.

Objective: Capture the rabbits

Equipment: No equipment necessary

Space Requirement: the entire gym floor

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

What Time Is It Mr.Fox?

Instructions: “What time is it, Mr. Fox?” In reply, the fox calls out a random hour of the day, i.e “It’s 5
o’clock!” Players respond by taking five steps ⏤ of any size they choose ⏤ towards the fox.
Whenever the Fox yells “Lunch Time” it is his/her objective to capture as many players and they
become a fox. Continue to play until all players have been captured.

Objective: Capture all the foxes

Equipment: No equipment necessary

Key Skills: Locomotion

Space Requirement: The entire gym floor

Time Requirement: 5 minutes
