NO WALL: AN ARTISTIC EXPLORATION OF REDEFINING SOCIETAL BOUNDARIES James (Wisit Techasirikosol) stands as a contemporary artist, a native of the vibrant heart of Bangkok, yet his artistic spirit finds its sanctuary in the province of Nakhon Sri Thammarat. While his craft aligns with the abstracts, his artistic tapestry unfolds in a manner that distinguishes itself from the conventional abstract artists. His focus lies not merely in the representation of external aesthetics but delves into the intricate realm of internal emotions, painted with the brushstrokes of improvisation. His oeuvre, however, draws similarities with conceptual art. It weaves together a meticulous series of thoughts, a grand notion that contemplates societal intricacies and the world that envelops our existence. James uncovers the layers of factors that dictate the human journey, the very tapestry of cultural customs and the weave of social power His work transcends into the domain of experimenting with nature, and it resonates with the alchemical transformations of artistic mediums, whether they be the palette of colors or the chemistry of mixed pigments. It is through these experiments that he crafts an abstract masterpiece, each line, shape, and hue bearing witness to the profound narratives he passionately presents. In his latest solo exhibition, “No Wall”, James’s inspiration unfurls from the diverse forms of walls encountered during his global travels. He perceives these walls as vessels of profound significance, each carrying a story of grandeur and the relentless struggle of empires. Some may have risen to shield and obscure the inner world, preventing external gazes from penetrating or understanding, while others served as veils to mask the creator’s own fears. At times, they are intricately intertwined with the towering beliefs of religion. And in the same breath, these walls are also a testament to the labor, sweat, life, and death of countless souls throughout history. The artist also sees that the essence of building walls resides within humans from a young age. He observes children, and even his own offspring, as they construct fortifications in their playful games, mirroring these miniature structures. The children who build walls based on instincts or to foster their development reflect the essence of wall construction, a concept that evolves with each individual’s perspective, outlook, or even their aspirations as they grow into adulthood. He also drew inspiration from the track “Another Brick In The Wall” from the album “The Wall” (1979) by Pink Floyd, an English progressive rock band. The song poignantly reflects the oppressive power of the state, grinding down and diminishing the individuality of the people until they become just another brick on the wall, indistinguishable from the rest. James distilled these thought-provoking concepts into a remarkable abstract artwork, presented as an artistic testament to the essence of ‘being a wall’. Though a fusion of lines, shapes, and vibrant colors, he masterfully experiments with his unique artistic alchemy. CONCEPT
NO WALL (ไรกําแพง) การสํารวจนิยามทางสังคมของกําแพงผานงานศิลปะนามธรรม เจมส (ว�สิทธิ์ เตชสิร�โกศล) คือศิลปนรวมสมัยชาวกรุงเทพโดยกําเนิดผูอาศัยและทํางานในจังหวัดนครศร�ธรรมราช ถึงแมเขาจะ ทํางานศิลปะแบบนามธรรม แตผลงานของเขาก็แตกตางจากศิลปนนามธรรมทั่ว ๆ ไปซึ่งเนนในการแสดงออกของอารมณความ รูสึกภายในและการทํางานแบบดนสด (Improvisation) หากแตเปนการทํางานคลายกับงานศิลปะแบบคอนเซ็ปชวล (Conceptual Art) ที่ผานการวางแผนและการทํางานดวยกระบวนการคิดในเชิงว�พากษตอประเด็นทางสังคมและสิ�งแวดลอมรอบตัว อาทิ เร�่องของ ปจจัยรายรอบที่ควบคุมชีว�ตมนุษยอยางระบบทุนนิยม วัฒนธรรม ประเพณี และอํานาจทางสังคมการเมือง นอกจากนี้ ผลงานของ เขายังมีความเกี่ยวของกับการทดลองกับธรรมชาติและปฏิกิร�ยาทางเคมีของสื่อทางศิลปะ ไมวาจะเปนสีหร�อผลิตภัณฑผสมสีชนิด ตาง ๆ เพ�่อสรางเปนผลงานศิลปะนามธรรมอันมีเสนสาย รูปทรง สีสัน ที่สื่อสารถึงประเด็นที่เขาตองการจะนําเสนออยางมี นัยยะสําคัญ ผลงานในนิทรรศการแสดงเดี่ยวครั้งลาสุดของเขาในครั้งนี้อยาง “No Wall (ไรกําแพง)” ไดแรงบันดาลใจมาจากการไดเห็นกําแพง ในรูปแบบตาง ๆ จากการทองเที่ยวเดินทางไปในหลายประเทศทั่วโลก เขามองวากําแพงเหลานี้แสดงถึงนัยยะสําคัญมากมาย อาจ เปนความยิ�งใหญและการขมขวัญคูตอสูของอาณาจักรอันเกร�ยงไกรสักแหง อาจถูกสรางข�้นเพ�่อปองกัน ปกปดไมใหคนภายนอก เขาถึงหร�อรับรูถึงสิ�งที่อยูภายในได หร�อแมแตใชปกปดความหวาดกลัวของผูสรางเอง บางที่อาจเกี่ยวของกับความศรัทธาอันยิ�ง ใหญทางศาสนา และในทางกลับกัน กําแพงเหลานี้ก็ถูกสรางข�้นจากแรงงาน เลือดเนื้อ ชีว�ต และความตายของทาสจํานวนมหาศาล ตลอดมา ศิลปนยังมองวาสัญชาตญาณในการสรางกําแพงนั้นเปนสิ�งที่มีอยูในตัวมนุษยมาตั้งแตครั้งเยาววัย โดยสังเกตจากเด็ก ๆ หร�อ แมแตลูกของเขาเวลาเลนตัวตอเลโกที่มักจะประกอบข�้นเปนสิ�งกอสรางที่มีลักษณะคลายกําแพงเสมอ และเด็ก ๆ ที่สรางกําแพงตาม สัญชาตญาณหร�อเพ�่อเสร�มสรางพัฒนาการนั้น บร�บทของการสรางกําแพงก็เปลี่ยนแปลงไปตามความคิดเห็น ทัศนคติ หร�อแมแต อุดมการณของแตละคนเมื่อเติบโตข�้นเปนผูใหญ เขายังไดรับแรงบันดาลใจมาจากบทเพลงในอัลบั้ม “The Wall” (1979) เพลง “Another Brick In The Wall” โดย Pink Floyd วงดนตร�โพรเกรสซีฟร็อกสัญชาติอังกฤษ ซึ่งสะทอนถึงอํานาจรัฐที่กดข�่และลดทอนความเปนปจเจกของประชาชนจนไมตางอะไร กับกอนอิฐกอนหนึ่งบนกําแพงเทานั้น ว�สิทธิ์หยิบเอาประเด็นทางความคิดเหลานี้มาสรางสรรคเปนผลงานศิลปะนามธรรมที่นําเสนอความเปนกําแพงดวยการประกอบ กันของเสนสาย รูปทรง สีสัน ผานกระบวนการทดลองทางศิลปะอันเปยมไปดวยเอกลักษณเฉพาะตัวของเขา คอนเซ็ปต
Wisit Techasirikosol (born in 1983) graduated from Chiang Mai University's Faculty of Fine Arts with a bachelor's degree. After graduation, he moved to the United States for four years, working as an artist alongside other jobs such as a cook and tattoo artist to make ends meet. After returning to Thailand, Wisit has chosen to live with a sense of reality. He was interested not just in making art, but also in incorporating art into all aspects of life. Wisit had opened a restaurant and a studio, and he found that cooking was an excellent medium for conveying artistic ideas. Wisit became a full-time artist after establishing Seedin studio in the Thai province of Nakhon Si Thammarat. Humans, life cycles, rule, and economic mechanics have long attracted Wisit. He has understood from earlier life experiences that people's lives are impacted by capitalism. We don't have much choice or freedom as we struggle to survive and pay the bills. As a result, he wondered, "Are humans controlled?" Wisit frequently used symbols, lines, and colors to communicate his life experiences. ว�สิทธิ์ เตชสิร�โกศล (เกิดป พ.ศ. 2526) จบการศึกษาปร�ญญาตร�จากคณะว�จ�ตรศิลป มหาว�ทยาลัยเชียงใหม หลังจบการศึกษา ศิลปนไดเดินทางไปใชชีว�ตอยูที่สหรัฐอเมร�กาเปนเวลาถึง 4 ป โดยไดทํางานศิลปะควบคูไปกับการหาเลี้ยงชีพอื่น ๆ อาทิ พอครัว และชางสัก หลังเดินทางกลับมาอยูประเทศไทย ศิลปนไดเลือกใชชีว�ตอยางเขาใจความเปนจร�ง โดยไมไดจดจอเพ�ยงแคการทํางานศิลปะเพ�ยง อยางเดียว แตยังผสมผสานงานศิลปะเขาไปในทุกบร�บทของชีว�ต โดยศิลปนไดเปดรานอาหารกึ่งสตูดิโอและเลือกสื่อสารศิลปะผาน ทางการปรุงอาหาร อยางไรก็ตาม ศิลปนไดกลับมาทํางานศิลปะอยางเต็มตัวอีกครั้งเมื่อเขาไดเปดสตูดิโอ “สีดิน” ที่จังหวัด นครศร�ธรรมราช ศิลปนสนใจประเด็นเกี่ยวกับความเปนมนุษย วัฏจักรชีว�ต รวมถึงเร�่องกฏเกณฑหร�อกลไกทางเศรษฐกิจ โดยจากประสบการณชีว�ต ที่ผานมา ศิลปนไดพบวาระบบทุนนิยมไดเขามาหลอหลอมชีว�ตมนุษยผานทางการทํามาหาเลี้ยงชีพอยางหลีกเลี่ยงไมได ศิลปนจ�ง เกิดคําถามที่วา “มนุษยถูกควบคุมหร�อไม?” ศิลปนนิยมใชสัญญะเพ�่อถายทอดประสบการณ ชีว�ตผานทางเสนและสีสันในงานศิลปะ ABOUT THE ARTIST
