The Sapporo Snow
Festival started

around 1950
in cooperation
with the Sapporo
Tourism Association
and the Sapporo
District. In this first
snow festival
Because no one
has ever built
a snow sculpture

before.

Therefore, the organizing
committee asked

high school students
in Sapporo to build snow

sculptures in order to
obtain 6 statues in the
courtyard of Odori Park,
which was originally

used as a dump.

Snow The early snow
sculptures were
extremely tall,
only 7 meters tall,

but in Work 4 in 1953
a 15 meter tall

sculpture was made






that required a lot of
snow. therefore had to

use trucks
and bulldozers to help

build
And this marks the

beginning
of the construction of a

large snow sculpture
like today.

IN SAPPORO.
WHICH IS HELD
AROUND

THE BEGINNING
OF FEBRUARY

EVERY YEAR ON
THE EVENT AREA

IS 3 PARTS

And there are more than 2 million
visitors from all over the world every
year. There are Thai people from the
Tourism Authority of Thailand. They take
part in a snowsculpting contest almost
every year and they have also won the

Grand Champion several times.

The festival is over 70
years old, and the

highlight of the event
is the large and small
snow sculptures in the
city. This is the largest

winter event
with more than
2.6 million people from
all over the world

attending.

is a group of Thai people who have

won the snow sculpture

from historical architecture
from world-famous
architecture and Japanese

Some of the snow
sculptures are 15 meters high
and 25 meters wide
