The Sapporo Snow
Festival started
around 1950
in cooperation
with the Sapporo
Tourism Association
and the Sapporo
District. In this first
snow festival
Because no one
has ever built
a snow sculpture
before.
Therefore, the organizing
committee asked
high school students
in Sapporo to build snow
sculptures in order to
obtain 6 statues in the
courtyard of Odori Park,
which was originally
used as a dump.
Snow The early snow
sculptures were
extremely tall,
only 7 meters tall,
but in Work 4 in 1953
a 15 meter tall
sculpture was made
that required a lot of
snow. therefore had to
use trucks
and bulldozers to help
build

beginning
of the construction of a
large snow sculpture
like today.

visitors from all over the world every
year. There are Thai people from the
Tourism Authority of Thailand. They take
part in a snowsculpting contest almost
every year and they have also won the
Grand Champion several times.
