Dear Friends and Family of YWCA NorthEastern New York,
It is with utmost gratitude that we share our Annual Report with you about our successes and
challenges in 2021. YWCA NorthEastern NY has been serving the Schenectady community and the
Greater Capital District for 133 years with our mission-focused work in our three main areas of
programming: comprehensive Domestic Violence services, safe and affordable housing for
women and their families, and high quality Early Learning Education. Our mission of eliminating
racism and empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all is the
driving force in our daily work.
Throughout 2021, we challenged people to take a stand against violence and racism, to
appreciate diversity and to celebrate unity. We came together as a community to combat the
COVID pandemic and give voice for individuals in our neighborhoods, our jobs, and our hearts.
Community sponsors stood with YWCA NorthEastern New York in solidarity to spread our mission
and to shine the light on and give voice to not only issue that impact women, but disparities that
far too often severely impact Black and Indigenous women of color. We solidified our dream of
owning a Domestic Violence Recovery and Healing Shelter with the purchase of a building from a
trusted community partner. We embarked on an internal journey of diversity, equity, and
inclusion work propelling us to consider new policies, procedures and mission work for the future.
Our residents were supported by community members who delivered quarantine meals, holiday
gifts, and mask donations, keeping them warm, toasty, and safe throughout the year. Lastly, the
sound of children laughing and learning with our amazing Early Learning Educators was a
constant reminder that HOPE still had a place at YWCA NENY.
During 2021 we once again strengthened the inseparable relationship between mission, services,
and funding. We wholeheartedly thank our corporate partners, our many contributors in the
community and our amazing staff team for all you do to make YWCA NENY the best. In particular,
we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to:

EARLY LEARNING
CENTERS
2021
Our two Early Learning Centers located at 44 Washington Ave and SUNY Schenectady both
offer full-day early learning. They are both licensed through the Office of Children and
Family Services and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young
Children (NAEYC). Both centers also voluntarily participate in QUALITYstarsNY and were
rated 5 out of 5 stars in 2021. They offer a developmentally appropriate curriculum for
children from six weeks to five years old.
The pandemic greatly impacted our Early Learning Centers in
2020 but we are happy to share that in 2021:

"We could not be happier with the program and staff at the YWCA NorthEastern NY Early
Learning Center at SCCC. The dedicated and caring child care professionals go out of their way
to individualize our daughter's emotional, physical, and cognitive development and keep in
daily communication with us to support her growth at the Center and at home." - ELC Parent
"We are so happy to be part of the YWCA Early Learning Center family. The staff is excellent -
caring, kind, and supportive. Our daughter looks forward to school everyday. We can see the
impact of the teaching style and classroom activities as she has become more self-confident
and thoughtful. We are so thankful to have found a place where we can trust that she is in the
best hands." - ELC Parent
