SEXUAL HEALTH EDUCATION
Sex education is the
sharing of information

health
Sex education should involve a wide range of a student's education
with information adapted to the student's age and cultural context.
It should contraception and condoms, relationships, sexual assault
prevention, self-image, gender identity, and sexual orientation. It
must be delivered by instructors who are certified to do so. In order
to minimize unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases,
sex education should be evidence-based. But by giving all the
information, it should respect young people's right thorough and
honest knowledge and information. Therefore, sex development
should be treated as a natural part of human growth and
development

Why is sexual health education important?
Adolescents in our country
are growing up in a world where
the benefits and perils of life are
significantly different from
those of their parents or
grandparents. Aside from the
physical, social, and cognitive
changes that occur in their lives,
they also need sufficient help to
avoid situations of sexual
harassment and abuse, which
are increasing at an alarming
pace.
Sex education is a key intervention to prevent and reduce sexual
harassment, assault, and abuse by teaching children about a wide
range of topics related to biological, psychological, and social views of
individual beings. All that is required is for it to be delivered in a
scientifically accurate and age-appropriate manner.
Adolescents have the opportunity to
practice critical skills such as decision-
making, negotiation, critical thinking,
leadership, and communication.
Sexting education can be beneficial,
regardless of whether it is to improve
one's health or to have an
understanding of one's own sexuality
and make better decisions in life.

Why is sexual health education important?
"Sex education for young people just as vital as teaching
other subjects. It's a good tool for teenagers to use.
There are far too many children who aren't receiving the
proper sex education due to a patchwork of laws and
practises. In contrast, sex education teaches adolescents
about the biological makeup of their bodies"

FACT
"SRH information and services are difficult to come by for children
and adolescents, according to the 2017 National Health and
Morbidity Survey (NHMS). Adoption, safe sex and contraception
are all out of reach; as are legal terminations of pregnancies,
shelters for single mothers and baby hatches; and as are resources
for assistance and counselling in the event of an unplanned
pregnancy or unwed motherhood."

THE EFFECT

rates
Sex education to adolescents is important to prevent an increase in the rate of cases
of sexual misconduct among adolescents. Research has found that countries that
provide sex education to teens have lower teen pregnancy rates than countries that
do not provide sex education to teens.
For example, based on a study conducted in 2016, teen pregnancy rates are low in
Switzerland because the country has long implemented sex education to teens. In
this study, researchers found that adolescent pregnancy rates vary according to the
level of education and cultural background of adolescent girls.
Therefore, sex education to adolescents is very important to reduce the problem of
adolescent pregnancy and should be implemented starting from the school level so
that adolescents are more aware of the adverse effects of the matter.

Sex education to teenagers is very important for their future lives. According to the
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), when
children or adolescents are not properly educated about sex education, they will be
vulnerable to harmful sexual behavior.
A UNESCO study states that early exposure to sexual education to adolescents can
delay the onset of sexual intercourse, reduce the frequency of sexual intercourse,
reduce the number of sexual partners, reduce condom use and increase
contraception. In addition, sex education also helps children learn about the dangers
of sexual abuse to prevent them from getting involved in cases of sexual abuse
during childhood.
Therefore, sex education to adolescents and children can change sexual behavior so
that they know how to make the right choice whether it leads to good or bad.

Harassment and violence against women and children are often associated with
sexual problems. This suggests that an individual who commits sexual violence or
discrimination is not given exposure to sex education. This will continue to linger if
not eradicated now and will probably become more prevalent in the future if not
addressed.
According to SIECCAN’s Canadian Guidelines for Sexual Health Education, sex
education can help address the problem of discriminatory attitudes toward women
and children communities and can help prevent sexual and emotional violence in
relationships. When sex education is widely applied, all individuals will be able to
receive accurate information related to sex education and be able to know the
causes, importance and effects of sexual problems.
Therefore, with the adoption of sex education at the adolescent level, cases of
violence and discrimination such as sexual harassment of women and sexual abuse
of children will be reduced and this will lead to a prosperous life.
"I flip ahead in the text book. There's an
interesting chapter about acid rain. Nothing about
sex, we aren't scheduled to learn about that until
eleventh grade."

HOW TO IMPLEMENT
SEX EDUCATION TO YOUNG PEOPLE
Understanding Sex Education Programs
Familiarize yourself with your local sex education requirements
1. Train teachers to provide sex education
Teacher training will help instructors prepare to teach sex education by
boosting their content/curriculum understanding, abilities, and level of
comfort. As appropriate, financial resources should be given to
conducting training, enabling instructors' participation, and paying
associated expenditures such as transport and replacement teachers.
Training opportunities should be ongoing and available to both new and
experienced teachers. Teacher training should include a review of
pertinent state and district policies as well as an emphasis on teacher
comfort and skills in having to deliver the curriculum.
2. Implement sex education in classrooms
It is past time to bring high-quality sex education into
the school. All of the groundwork has been done:
policies and procedures are in place, the curriculum is
defined, and instructors have been trained. It is now
time to teach pupils about sex education in the school.
3. Monitor and review sex education implementation
Once a sex education program is established, measures to
evaluate implementation may give responsibility while also
ensuring program consistency and efficiency. Monitoring might
take several forms, including a simple spreadsheet that
teachers fill out and submit to document sex education classes
provided. From the regular evaluations of student learning in
relation to standards/objectives, or scheduled department
meetings of sex education instructors to promote discussing
lesson ideas, issues, techniques, and so on. The amount of
monitoring will be determined by each site's context,
capabilities, and minimum requirement.
