BACKGROUND OF TIOMAN ISLAND ,

Tioman Island is one of the famous islands in Malaysia. It is located in the middle of the
South China Sea between Peninsular Malaysia and the island of Borneo. Tioman Island i
located under the auspices of the state of Pahang in the district of Rompin.The island is
known for the beauty of flora and fauna found in the forests and oceans of the island.
Because of the beauty of the ocean and the diversity of flora and fauna, it caused the isla
was once crowned as one of the most beautiful islands in the world at one .
Tioman has been used for thousands of years by fishermen as an important navigation po
and a source of fresh water and wood.[2] During the past thousand years, it has played ho
to Chinese, Arab, and European trading ships, and often Chinese porcelain shards can be
found on beaches around the island.In more recent history, Tioman played host to both
the British and the Japanese navies during the Second World War, and the waters around
the island are littered with war remains (including HMS Repulse and HMS Prince of
Wales). Tioman island does not allow buildings to have more than 3 stories.Tioman Islan

The name Tioman is said to be taken in conjunction with the name of a
bird, the Tiong bird. The story begins when a group of traders came to
Tioman Island and they saw a tame bird under the care of the villagers.
Then one of them asked a resident there.
"Who owns this bird?" then the resident named Man replied "it's a bird
tiong man, sir". The island language ‘man’ means ‘I’. Then the trader
asked again what was the name of this island, Man also said that this
island has no name. Immediately, the traders named the island as
Tioman Island. The result of a combination of Tiong and also Man.

In the past, Tioman was one of the trading areas that existed at that time. This is because
strategic position allows traders to take a break. It is included in the history of maritime
governments that practiced trading activities. They also promote food from their own cro
such as vegetables and fruits.
Today, Tioman Island has become an island that is often visited by tourists. It is also one
he important assets for the state of Pahang Darul Makmur. Various activities can be done
on the island such as scuba diving, snorkeling, camping and so on. Certainly it can fulfill
he desire of visitors to enjoy the beauty of nature. The island also has facilities such as
schools, clinics, mosques, police stations and so on to meet the needs of the people here.
