Be a part of our UoM family! Take advantage of
this valuable and big opportunity.
For the Leostic year 2021/22, We, the Leos of
Leo club of University of Moratuwa are ready to sail our ship with clever and new sailors. Our
19th installation ceremony was held on the 18th of September. There we proudly introduced
the “Leo Scroll” app which is very useful for every Leo club in Sri Lanka. With this success
and freshness as young Leos, we organized many social activities and
projects to give our maximum to society. We identified many social
needs and we launched projects to fulfil those needs.
Because of this pandemic situation, many A/L students couldn’t
attend their schools and tuition classes. We identified that problem
and planned a new project “Widu Nena Dahara.”. “Literia” is another
project that is organized to celebrate the literary month, September.
Furthermore, we launched many projects this month to cover each
and every side in society. Espiedoela 3.0, Freeyo mind are some
highlighted projects.
Our Official Newsletter IT’S US gives an overall idea about our
contribution to society through projects. Other than that, we set
aside one page to appreciate the talents of our Prospects and Leos.
From this issue onwards, we’ve launched a new article series, ‘Journey
of A2 Leos’, to give a summary about fellow club projects and events
of Leo District 306A2, which were launched in the previous month.
Through every page of our newsletter, we try to give something
valuable to you. Therefore, as the editorial panel we like to hear your
comments and suggestions.
We, the UoM Leos invite you to keep in touch with this massive and
bright journey! Have a happy reading!

19th Installation Ceremony
The 19th Installation Ceremony
of the Leo Club of University
of Moratuwa was held on
18th September via the zoom
platform. It was the first time we
held our Installation Ceremony
via zoom. Hence, it was a new
experience for us. The chief guest
of the occasion was District
president Leo district 306A2 Leo
Navod Kiriwaththuduwa, the
guest of honour of the occasion
was Leo Lion Dilshan Peries
while the special guests were Leo Pramida Vindika and the Club Treasurer, Engineer Kithsiri
Samarasinghe.
We conducted our Installation Ceremony under the theme of “pirates”. The past Club president
Leo Sachintha Kapuge handed over his presidency to the new Club president Leo Hiran Kesara
for the Leostic year 2021/22. Our Leos and prospects made this evening colorful through
their talents. We, UoM Leos, gave our maximum dedication to the success of this event. At the
ceremony, we introduced the “Leo Scroll” app for island-wide Leo clubs. Through this app, we
can access project details, post-project details of all the Leo Clubs in Sri Lanka.
Therefore, there was no difference whether it
was a physical ceremony or an online ceremony.
Each and all honorable guests appreciated our
dedication in organizing the 19th installation
We express our sincere gratitude to all
prospects, Leos and Lions who gave massive
support for the success of the ceremony.
With this sentient moment we, UoM Leos, are
ready to sail our ship through an adventurous
journey.

The helm of success is not luck, but your effort, commitment & hard work. Here, we would like
to give space for such a personality, Leo kasuni Dayarathna, the Leo of the month of September
of Leo Club of University of Moratuwa. She is an undergraduate of the Department of Textile
and Apparel Engineering. As UoM Leos, we thought of discussing her Leo journey and the key
to her success.
01 How did you end up choosing UoM Leo
Club to serve the community?
I got to know about the Leo club through a
lecture on extracurricular activities. The
lecturer who did that speech, explained his
experiences & achievements with the Leo
club. With that guidance, I wanted to join the
Leo club & get experience.
02 Were you a chairman for any of the
Leo Projects and if so, how was the
experience?
Yes. I was a co-chairman of Widu Nena
Dahara.
In that project, we organized seminar series
on Chemistry & Physics, targeting the
students who are going to face the Advance
Level examination this year. Due to Covid
19 pandemic, they missed lots of chances to
gain their subject knowledge. So we tried to
support them by conducting the seminars
and also we prepared printed short notes
for them. After successful 14 days, we
could finish the project with many positive
comments. I am so happy about that project
because we could properly help them.
15
03 What was your first project as a prospect?
Nimna Theertha 2 was my first project. Through that project, I could gain valuable
experience on how to work as a team. During that project, we worked as one family
and It helped me to meet new friends also. By seeing the comments & feedbacks
from the students who joined us, I was totally satisfied with our effort.
04 Can you tell us the experiences that you gained from the Leo club?
Actually, through all of these Leo projects, I gained a lot of experience. The club has
been a great help in developing my leadership qualities, in learning how to balance
all of these academic work, sports, projects and how to use my time effectively. I
used to works according to a timetable. That helped me a lot to manage my time. Leo
family always teaches us, how to respect others.
05 Is there anything you received from the club other than that?
The most valuable thing I got from this club was making good friends. Actually, Leo
is not only a club. It is a family. And also I learned how to take the responsibilities, &
how to complete them properly. Through the projects that I have participated in, I
could improve my flyer creating skills & teaching skills also.
06 How do you feel about joining the Leo club now?
I am very happy and satisfied with it.
07 Do you have any messages for your junior batches or your batch mates
who are willing to join the Leo club in future?
From my experience with UoM Leos, I can confirm, that the Leo club is the best place
to find your hidden Talents. Leo family helps to grow up your personality & It will
make you a proud Leo who has the strength to take responsibilities. I invite my batch
mates & junior batches to join the Leo club to have great experience, full of joy &
happiness for their lifetime.
Thank you very much Leo Kasuni Dayarathna for the immense support that
you gave and for the interview. We, UoM Leos, wish her a very successful and
bright future. Hope our readers will enjoy the discussion.
