First we met with the people in charge of the

also gave us details of what the children needed
and the activities to be done. Accordingly, we
decided to provide the children with morning tea

mental uplifting activities and competitions
and finally give them a chance to show off their
talents like dancing and singing. The reason is
that they told us that those children are very
active and very fond of dancing and singing.

Uwatana

The Project uwatana is one of the Signature
projects that is organized by the Leos of
Panadura Alubomulla to facilitate the daily
needs of the old monks who are institutionalized
in Bhikshu Wiwekaramaya, Kaluthara.

In this year also the project was organized to
extend our gratitude for those Buddhist monks
even in this pandemic prevailing situation. The
program was arranged on 4th February and it
was initiated early in the morning. Hot water
was prepared for monks and then helped them
to walk from their rooms to wash rooms. It was
a bit challenging task because there were some
old monks who cannot walk by themselves.
Therefore, we had to carry them and some
monks had their own wheelchairs.

Then we shaved their heads, beards and started
bathing them with hot water, one at a time. At
the same time, some of our members cleaned
their rooms and wash rooms, washed their
cloths, changed their bed sheets, mattresses,
and dusted and rearranged the rooms. We were
advised to finish our works before noon as the
monks have to be prepared for their meals and
we were able to finish all the things at around
11.30 a.m.

Heena Walata Panak

All the works were started
simultaneously and we had a small
concern regarding painting the interior
of the building. We prepared all the paint
colors according to the previous colors
(Pink) but the school color codes were
changed after our pre-visit and we didn’t
aware about the situation until the
project day. Because of that the paint
colors were changed from pink to white
for the interior of the building. The walls
inside the building were much damaged
that we had to first fill those holes with
cement, and apply potty and then color.

The Leoistic Year 2020/2021 has been a real special year for all the Leos of Leo Club of
Sri Lanka Technological Campus. Our fellow Leos were able to organize and execute many
social projects amidst the hardships of a global pandemic. The intention as we started this
year was bring solutions to the current projects of the society. The many projects which
were successfully completed by the Leo Club of Sri Lanka Technological Campus, helped to
strengthen the bond between each of the club members, while it helped in the personal
development of all us. Although virtually, the installation of the club and club meetings
were held successfully.

Some highlights of our journey this year are Jeewana Yathra’21 where we visited Ruhuna
Magampura area, The WEST (Women Empowerment and Social Training) which was
aimed for all the women in Leo Multiple District 306 A2, Sinhalen Docs yet another very
successful project. Some other projects which were highlighted in the past year are Fit
Formula, Open Mic Night, fifkyig wre;la, Island Wide Beach Cleanup Series, Drug Free
Future, Knowbe4, Living voice, A Day with Sunken Secrets, iskyjlg w;aje,la, Elation and
iqndhq which were also a great achievement to the club.

23

Moreover, “Leo Times” the monthly magazine of the club was
issued every month and it impressed every Leo reader. It was
published in many social media platforms like Facebook, Scribd and our official blog. It
was read by 5000+ readers every month and the monthly magazine is becoming a brand
of its own.
Together we were able to make a positive impact on the community by conducting various
service and leadership projects. Many new members joined the club and helped in the
growth, expansion, and promotion of the club within the university community. Not only
it made us make a positive impact on many people’s lives but it helped us find friends for
a lifetime. It truly is a blessing to see the members of the club become a better version
of themselves, by embracing the humanity within them. Leoism is the perfect platform
to identify your strengths and weaknesses and to make the best out of them. Behind the
success of this year are a great set of Leaders who put forward their time and effort for
the betterment of the society. As a club we are grateful for our club President Leo Nisal
Samarasinghe for all the guidance given in the past year.
This was not a journey alone. This is the achievement of the teamwork with other Leo clubs
of the district. We Thank all the Club Presidents of Leo District 306 A2 & Club presidents
of Other Leo Districts for the immense support rendered throughout the year and for being
with us always. We look forward to a new Leoistic year where further heights are reached.

HOPE IN SIGHT

The cornerstone of this project is to raise fund for the project, “Hope in Sight” which was
initiated in order to donate eye lenses for people with eye impairments who cannot afford
to buy them. It was successfully carried out last Monday, 26th of April at Lions Jubilee
Hospital, Kadawatha. We are much obliged to all the Leos who stood for this good cause.
