LEO DISTRICT 306 A2

As we have come to the end of another proud Leostic year while reflecting on the outstanding
humanitarian service, leadership and experiences, it is time to recollect those fascinating
memories. As Leos, we have come together and experienced incredible moments worth sharing
this year too.
Thus, as Leo Club of University of Moratuwa, we thought to share them through Memento the
special edition of IT'S US, by collecting some of these remarkable Leo moments of A2 Leos
while illustrating the successful completion of this Leostic year as one family. Here we are
recalling the memories of some of the main projects done by A2 Leos.

NON PERISHABLE CHRISTMAS TREE

Christmas is celebrated every year on 25th December. The festival marks the celebration of the
birth anniversary of Jesus Christ. His birthday is one of the most joyous ceremonies amongst
Christians.
Making Christmas trees is one of the main rituals out of others. Therefore as leos, we decided to
make a Christmas tree, especially by using non-perishable things like plastic bottles, cups,
polythene covers, empty pen tubes, CDs...etc. After the effort of all the club members, we were
able to create an attractive Christmas tree and it was exhibited in the school premises.

LEO CLUB OF

DEHIWALA EAST

On the 17th of March 2022, project
Kochchiyen Thalawakaleta was initiated with
11 Leos from the Club. We went to
Thalawakale by train because we figured out
that it was the most suitable way for us to
communicate our needs with the public and
also it had the exact amount of free space that
we needed to perform.

project conducted by Leos of Dehiwala East
Leos. This was an innovative fundraising
project where Dehiwala East Leos were able
to raise funds while informing the public
about the Leo Movement.

The main goal of the project was to raise
funds for our future service projects. So for
that our leos sang and played various musical
instruments in trains, buses and public areas.
While achieving our goal we wanted to
inform the public about the Leo Moment as
well. So for that, we always did a brief
introduction about who we are and what we
do in Leoism before we started to perform.
By doing so we were able to achieve both of
our goals successfully.

Leo Club of Kesbewa invited to Leo Club of
KIU,Leo Club of Centennial Richmond
College, Leo Club of Christ Church Boys’
College, Leo Club of Christ Church Girls’
College and Leo Club of Rahula to execute
this project focusing on the issue of child
abuse. We were primarily target school
children and apart from them, our university
students as well to educate them on the
ongoing issue of child abuse. It was a joint
project carried out as a Webinar series on
Zoom Platform in two phases..

Child abuse has been an ongoing issue in Sri
Lanka especially in the last few years.
However, despite the increasing number of
cases, it is still considered a rather
controversial topic to discuss and our
knowledge on the matter seems lower than
ever. That is why it is important to educate
ourselves, and especially the children
regarding the matter.

In phase one of the webinar series which Mr. Thusitha Abeysekara, Senior Lecturer of
took place on Zoom platform, the guest Sri Jayewardenepura discussed what legal

A DREAM OF SRI LANKANS HAS COME
TRUE

The Paralympic Games or Paralympics, also known as the Games of the Paralympiad, is a
periodic series of international multi-sport events involving athletes with a range of physical
disabilities.
The Paralympic Games became one of the most significant international sporting events by the
early 21st century, grown from a small gathering of British World War II veterans in 1948. Sri
Lanka made its Paralympic Games debut at the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta, with a
single athlete name Kalika Pathirana in track and field. We have participated in every
subsequent edition of the Summer Paralympics but have never entered the Winter Paralympics.

At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, we won our first Paralympic medal through

Pradeep Sanjaya, who won the Bronze medal in the Men's 400 metres. At the 2020 Summer

Paralympics in Tokyo, We won our first ever Paralympics gold medal, with Dinesh Priyantha

Herath taking gold in the men's javelin throw F46 category, setting a new F46 world &

paralympic record of 67.79 metres. Dulan Kodithuwakku also claimed the bronze medal in the

men's javelin throw F64 category at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, with a distance of 65.61

metres. As Sri Lankans, we are very proud of the success they

have achieved due to their commitment. They are also

a great role model for our future players. This is a very

good omen for all our sportsman and sportswomen.
