Summary & Product

Original intentions • During the first 2 units of this course, I quickly decided I wanted to start my creative enterprise based around documenting the UK underground rap scene. I wanted to create a documentary style video based on individual artists that gave them the space to explore their creativity and give a better insight to their personal lives. • During unit 1 & 2 I heavily explored cinematography and editing. Being part of the production of a short film allowed me to explore my creativity in these fields. I edited a short video which included all of my favourite artists apart of the scene. Streamlining Options • After making this video I wanted to focus more on the video editing aspect of video production. Editing is a great tool that can make a video unique. I want my products to be as unique as possible. • With an emphasis on editing I really intend on making videos that are totally unique and almost incomparable. However. I'm aware this is extremely ambitious. Creating completely unique ideas is basically impossible in this day and age considering the amount of content that is being produced.

Feedback on unit 1 & 2 • After our short film 'The Collapse' was shown to our tutors. They gave us feedback sheets on how they thought the project went. The feedback was mostly positive with minor complaints on the rudimentary editing.

Unit 3 • I didn't complete my original intention of making something entirely unique. My final product was often compared to other documentary style films by peers and professionals. However, these people did praise it's unique and creative position.

Final Product Feedback • From following the start to end as an outsider being aware of how and when you are creating the documentary, I will have to say I am ultimately impressed, this is because the feeling of the video feels professional and created by a team of professionals and not solo. So in regards to production, it feels high value despite it being a small scale of production. The documentary runs through well and it feels very professional, you should do this with more artists as this is incredible. – Josh Chapman (peer) • “I really like the raw, lo-fi aesthetic of your documentary Toby. It fits so well with the feel of the music and you do a great job of immersing the audience into the depths of this subculture. I like the choppy editing – it feels like we’re getting small but rich snapshots of moments in time and does a great job of telling us more about the character/s but without doing it in a traditional interview style. Lots of interesting innovation and a playful approach which feels really fresh. - Lewis (video creator)

Products/Services • After researching different video production companies products for sale. I discovered they mostly all charge a flat charge for the whole project. I wanted to incorporate this into my company's pricing. • I want to charge artists a one-time-fee for my service. This includes filming, editing and promoting the videos I will make for them.
