Greenway Forest
By: Brittney S. Quintanilla
It was a good day to go on a walk in the
Greenway Forest. I mean the name Greenway
Forest is the cheesiest name in the world. It is
a good name because everything is green
there. Not literally though, but you know what
I’m trying to say. I took my bike and made my
way to the forest.
Once I made it to the forest, I was pretty exhausted. Afterall,
I’m not used to riding a bike. I could feel little drops of sweat
go down my forehead. My face felt hot which meant it could
have been red. My breathing was slowly slowing down after
a while. I found a nice and sturdy looking tree. I decided to
take a quick break and lay down and admire the sounds
going on around me. I could hear birds singing. I could see a
mosquito sucking my blood……. OH JEEZ- A MOSQUITO IS
SUCKING MY BLOOD! SMACK* The mosquito is now dead.
(Oh well too bad, back to admiring the things around me.)
After a while of admiring the things
around me, I felt a bit sleepy. It was
quite quiet here. Very relaxing. I could
feel my eyes get drowsier by the second.
Seconds didn’t even pass until I heard a strange
noise in a bush near me. My heart had skipped a
beat. I quickly got up grabbing my bike getting
prepared for something to pop out and eat or
kidnap me. It could be a person trying to scare
me, a creature ready to eat me, or some other
thing even scarier.
Then something small appeared to slowly
crawl out. My heart pumped harder and
faster. I felt sick to the stomach. Slowly, the
shadow seemed to get smaller and smaller
as it crawled out. I closed my eyes.
I heard it struggle a bit trying to get out of
the bush. I dared to open my eyes...
It was a tiny porcupine. I let out a big sigh
of relief. I laughed at myself. I guess it could
have been worse. I didn’t want to get hurt
by touching the porcupine, so I grabbed my
bike and put the front tire behind him
giving him a push to help it out.
I helped it get out but seemed to be like it
didn’t appreciate it. It walked away. I followed. I
kept my distance so that it wouldn’t feel
uncomfortable and go somewhere it didn’t want
to go. Soon it started to fast walk. It seemed to
have been in a hurry. Then it started to run.
Then sprint. I tried to run, trying to keep up. I
remembered that I have a bike. I got on and
went as fast as I could to catch up.
Just a quick heads up! The brakes on my
bike were not working that well...
I guess you already know what happened next.
There was a rough turn, and I was going pretty
fast. Turns out that my skills for riding a bike
did not help me there on that turn.
My tire slid, and before hitting a tree I
woke up...
It turned out to be a dream. I was still by
the tree and my bike was next to me.
Everything was normal until I heard a noise
in a bush...
