E is for the Elf-Child, in the novel, the townspeople called Pearl the Elf-Child.

F is for faith, the book is based upon a Puritan community, therefore they have
faith in every situation.

G is for Governor Bellingham, he is the governor of their community.

H is for Hester Prynne, Hester is one of the main characters in the book and is the
mother of Pearl.

I is for impish, some may describe Pearl as an impish child, meaning she is very
mischievous.

J is for Jail, one side of the jail has roses and is pretty, while the other side is dark
and gloomy.

K is for kiss, Pearl kisses Dimmesdale at the end of the book after he drops dead.

L is for Lies, Dimmesdale lies to the town about his secret sins.

M is for Meteor, when Dimmesdale is on the scaffold with Pearl and Hester, a
meteor traces a letter “A” in the sky.

N is for Novel, the Scarlet Letter is a novel written by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

O is for Opposition, the townspeople opposed Hester and Pearl and did not
include them in the community.

P is for Pearl, one of the main characters in the book; Hester’s child; “Demon
child.”

Q is for quiet, Chillingworth was a very quiet person.

R is for Religion, the characters in this book have a Puritan religion.

S is for Scar, at the end of the book when Dimmesdale is on the scaffold, the
citizens closest to him could see his “A” shaped scar.

T is for Tragedy, Dimmesdale’s death was a tragedy.

U is for unity, at the end of the book, Dimmesdale, Hester, and Pearl all unite on
the scaffold.

V is for violent, the townspeople were violent with their words towards Hester and
Pearl.
W
W is for Winthrop, when the meteor goes across the sky, the townspeople take it
as a sign of his entry into heaven.
X
X is for Xenophobia, Pearl has xenophobia since she is afraid of strangers.
Y
Y is for young, at the end of the novel, Dimmesdale appears to be younger.
Z
Z is for zeal, the Puritans in the book had a zeal for God’s glory.
