INNOVATION IN HEALTHCARE UroShield® User Guide Clinically proven to prevent Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) and blockages

UroShield® user instructions The purpose of the UroShield® device is to prevent the build-up of bacteria on your catheter through the action of ultrasound waves. It is intended to reduce and help prevent catheter-associated urinary infections and catheter blockages. The device should be used continuously, day and night, and is powered through the mains electricity supply or through its rechargeable battery. When not connected to the mains electricity, the device can be used in battery mode for up to six hours but should then be re-connected to the mains to recharge. 2

How to connect UroShield® (Please also see user manual in the box) 1. Open the actuator and peel off the protective strips from both sides. 2. FEMALES – place the actuator 3cm from the point where the catheter exits the body. 4. Place the catheter across the grooves of the actuator with the cord pointing up towards you. 5. Carefully snap it shut. Check the catheter is not pinched at either end of the actuator. 3. MALES–place the actuator 5-10cm from the point where the catheter exits the body. 3cm 5-10cm 4

6. Plug the actuator cable into the driver. 8. Connect the power supply charger to the mains and switch on. 9. Press and hold the ON/OFF button on the driver for 2-3 seconds to turn the device on. 10. Wait 30 seconds for the device to start working. 7. Plug the power supply charger into the driver. 11. The device makes a deliberate low humming noise so that you know that it is operating. 12. Press the ON/OFF button again for 2-3 seconds if you need to turn the device off. Suprapubic catheters Place the actuator on the catheter tube at least 3cm from the point where the catheter exits the body and where it is comfortable for you. Operating cycle UroShield® is preconfigured to provide intermittent ultrasound at a pre-set frequency. UroShield® alternates between two phases: ACTIVE PHASE UroShield® delivers 15 minutes of ultrasound treatment on the surface of the catheter. A low audible sound may be heard. IDLE PHASE UroShield® is idle for five minutes. 5

To switch UroShield® ON (when the driver is turned off and not connected to the mains) press and hold the ON/OFF button for 2–3 seconds. If another screen appears instead of the one to the left, see section: Alerts and troubleshooting (p8). After another 3 minutes, the display shows the screensaver: Switching UroShield® ON or OFF After the intro sequence, the driver display shows the status of the battery and actuator connection as shown below: When the screensaver is shown, you can return to the battery/ actuator status by pressing the ON/OFF button briefly for less than 2 seconds. Please note: • The actuator should not be pulled. • The actuator should not be disconnected from the driver, except for bathing. • The ON/OFF button should not be pressed unless you need to turn the device on or off. 6

Explanation The battery has less than 10% capacity. Action required Connect the driver to the mains power supply with the supplied power supply charger. Explanation This icon appears for several seconds when the battery has less than 5% capacity left. UroShield® then shuts down automatically. Action required Connect the driver to the mains power supply with the supplied power supply charger. Explanation Actuator malfunction. The actuator is not connected to the driver or is damaged. Action required Make sure the actuator is properly connected to the driver. If the actuator is properly connected and the malfunction icon is displayed, replace the actuator with a new one. Important information The driver is not waterproof and should be disconnected from the actuator before showering or bathing. The actuator should be left attached to the catheter at all times. After showering/bathing, reattach the driver and switch on straight away. Alerts and troubleshooting When UroShield® requires attention, an audible alert sounds and the driver display fl ashes. The icon on the display will indicate what action is required: 8

The actuator should be replaced every 30 days. If the catheter is replaced within the 30 days, the existing actuator can be reattached or a new actuator can be attached to the new catheter. The device can be disconnected from the mains power supply and run on battery for up to six hours before it needs to be recharged. If you are running on battery power only, the display will flash and an alert will sound when the battery capacity falls below 10%. Please reconnect to mains power immediately or the unit will shut down automatically. Can I use UroShield® as a treatment for my active urinary infection? Consult your clinician for treatment of the active urinary infection prior to your use of UroShield®. When the infection is successfully treated, begin your use of UroShield® by attaching the actuator to a new catheter. Do I need to charge the UroShield® driver before I start using it? The UroShield® driver is already charged to approximately 70% when you receive it for the first time. It is suggested that prior to using for the first time, you fully charge the driver. How do I stop the alarm from sounding while it is charging but disconnected from actuator? Press the on/off button for 2-3 seconds and the alarm will stop. Frequently asked questions 9

Can UroShield® be used with catheters made of any type of material? UroShield® can be used with catheters made of uncoated silicone, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), latex rubber, siliconised latex, and all other catheter materials. What catheter sizes can UroShield® be used with? UroShield® can be used with urinary catheter sizes 12Ch, 14Ch, 16Ch,18Ch, 20Ch, and 22Ch. Can the actuator be reused after catheter removal? It is recommended that the actuator is used with a single catheter only and should be disposed of along with the old catheter. A new actuator should be attached to the newly inserted catheter when it is replaced. This is usually every 30 days or when your clinician schedules the change. What happens if the battery runs out and I cannot recharge it straight away? For example: I am asleep or have been on a journey? UroShield® will not operate unless it has power from the battery or directly from the electricity supply. Whilst we recommend that UroShield® is attached to the catheter and operating at all times, there will be occasions where it needs to be disconnected due to bathing or is not operating for a short period of time and this should not interfere with the effectiveness of the device. Can I continue to use the device when I am in bed? Yes, UroShield® is designed to be used continuously and it is recommended that it remains attached to the catheter and active, whilst you sleep. Do I need to remove UroShield® when taking a shower or bath or in the swimming pool? The UroShield® driver is not waterproof and should not be exposed to water or any other fluid. If you want to shower, bathe, or go swimming, we recommend the following: 1. Before exposing your body to water or any other fluid, switch OFF the UroShield® driver. 2. Disconnect the UroShield® driver from the actuator. 3. Leave the driver in a safe place away from any contact with water. 10

The actuator can remain attached to the catheter whilst showering or bathing. Prior to reconnecting the actuator back to the driver, wipe off any water from the connector on the actuator cable. After reconnecting the driver, turn on the driver to make sure the display shows the actuator being properly connected and the actuator is functioning normally. Can I use UroShield® with a deactivated/activated sacral nerve stimulator? Yes. UroShield® can be used and will not interfere with the sacral nerve stimulator. Can I stop doing catheter/ bladder washouts? Consult your clinician as to whether you should reduce the frequency or discontinue catheter/ bladder washouts because you are now using UroShield®. Can I stop using UroShield® when my urinary tract infection is gone? UroShield® is designed to be used continuously as it is designed to prevent catheter-related infections and blockage. The action of UroShield® prevents the bacteria from adhering to the catheter surface and forming biofilms so it is important to continue using UroShield® whilst you are using a catheter. What should I do if/when my UroShield® driver stops working – is there a replacement plan? The UroShield® internal battery can undergo greater than 500 full charge cycles. The operational time may decrease over time and eventually, the driver will require replacing. When the device requires replacing, contact your clinician or device supplier to order a replacement device. 11
