THE STORY OF A
LITTLE BOY AND
AN APPLE TREE

Once there was a huge apple-tree in a
beautiful garden.A little boy who lived
near the garden would come and play
with the tree every day.

This boy would run around the tree,
climb the tree, eat apples from the tree,
and take rest under the shadow. The little
boy enjoyed playing with the tree and
even the tree really loved the boy.

Days kept going, the little boy grew up
gradually and was no longer interested in
playing with the tree. The boy seldom
visited the tree.

One day the boy came to the tree with
a sad face. Seeing the boy, the tree said in
excitement,“Lovely boy, I missed you.
Come and play with me.”

In response, the boy said,“I have become a
teenager now. I no longer play with trees. I now
want to play with toys. But I do not have money
to buy toys and therefore I am sad. Can you give
me money to buy toys?”

“If you need money to buy toys, I have a
suggestion through which you can make money.
Pick all the apples from me.You’ll get a good
amount by selling them, and you can buy your
favourite toy.” the tree suggested to the boy.

The boy was delighted. From the tree,
he took all the apples and went to the
market to sell them. After selling the
apples, the boy did not return to the tree;
this made the tree upset.

One day, the boy who turned into a
man came to the tree being sad. Seeing the
boy the tree was excited,“Come and play
with me”, said the tree.

“I’m extremely busy. I’ve turned into a
man, therefore I need to work and shelter my
family. Can you help me build a house for my
family, please?” the boy asked.

“I would be glad to shelter your family,
you can chop off my branches and build a
house for your family to shelter them. So the
man chopped off all the branches and left
happily. The tree was pleased to see the man
happy, but the man didn’t come back. The tree
was alone and became upset again.

One summer the man returned to
the tree once again. The tree was delighted
to see him,“Come and play with me” the
tree cheered.

The boy replied in a low voice,“I am
getting old now. I want to go sailing and
relax. Can you please give me a boat?” the
man requested.

“Trim my trunk and use it to build a
boat. Then you can sail around the world
and be happy”, the tree responded. So the
man cut the trunk, made a boat, and went
sailing. He did not show up for a long time.

Finally, after many years the man
showed up to the tree. This time the man
was tired and appeared weak.“Greatly
sorry my boy. But I do not have anything
to give you now. I lost all my apples; my
branches and the trunk all have been cut
down. The only thing left with me is my
dying roots.”, the tree exclaimed with great
pain.

“I have become old and weak. I’m
exhausted after all these years,” replied the
man.

The tree responded,“The roots of the
old tree are the best place to rest, come to
me and relax.” The man sat down on the
roots of the tree. Both were delighted and in
great joy.

This specific story is in line with every one of us.The tree represents our
parents, and we are the little boy.We liked to play with our parents when we
were little. We leave them as we grow up and get busy in the world.

We just go to them when we need something or when we are in trouble.
But the love our parents have for us is so strong they just offer their finest to
see us happy.

We may think that the little boy was too insensitive to the tree. The above
story, however, reflects the truth about how we treat our parents. We take
them for granted and do not appreciate their presence, until its too late.

MORAL

Be appreciative of all the support and affection you have
received from your parents. Return love to them because
whatever you are now is largely contributed by their sacrifice.

Have a prime target in life to support them back. They are
made more joyful by our presence, more than the gifts and lavish
presents.

It’s better to be grateful and cherish them right now than to
regret later.
