SuccessMaker Terminology
Terminology Definition/Description
AP:
Current Level: Acceptable Performance: AP in math is defined as mastery of at least 90% of the learning
Gain: objectives attempted. In reading, AP is defined as mastery of at least 75% of the learning
objectives attempted.
Placement Level:
The course level a student reaches at the time of the data pull.
Students
Included: The difference between a student’s current level and placement (IP) level in a course. Gain
Students Not indicates the amount of SuccessMaker content a student has been exposed to within the course
Included: (i.e. 1.00 is equal to one year’s gain).
Level at which a student completes Initial Placement (IP), a process that places the student at an
appropriate starting level in the course by following the student’s actual progress at the outset
of the course. IP is not a test but a flexible property of the course that adapts the content of the
course to the student’s prior knowledge to find the starting (or placement) level that is neither
too easy nor too difficult for the student.

The courseware target levels within SuccessMaker represent a minimum standard to guide
implementations. During this transitional year for state assessments, these targets are not
