centennial year in Delta. As Immediate Past President, Necole Jones was able to secure over $30
in external grants and collaborative partnerships with numerous entities such as DREF, The Red Doo
Inc. and the Women’s Foundation of a Greater Memphis. During the Jones presidency from 201

The Journey of the First 53, on April 2, 2017.
Currently, Marva Maples leads the chapter of over 300 members. Under her tenure the chapter ha
embraced more technology for effective chapter management and continued to be designated a Re
Ribbon chapter for adherence to compliance & stellar programming. Under the thrust of Econom
Development, the chapter unveiled its Adopt-A-Highway on Hwy 64 stretching from Morning Sun

President’s Message
Welcome to the Shelby County (TN) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorpora
Diamond Anniversary Celebration Weekend! This weekend is a celebration of our past, present
our bright future. When you think of diamonds it signifies beauty, royalty and glamour. Neverthe
it takes many years for a diamond to be found, formed and transformed into a beautiful gem.
We honor our past by paying homage to the 52 dynamic women who chartered the Shelby Coun
TN Alumnae Chapter on April 25, 2009. This was an exciting new beginning of a diamond that w
undergo finding a location to conduct business, collaborating with community partners to serve t
most vulnerable and under-privileged and increasing its membership.
Due to our solid foundation, we were able to form into an award-winning, innovative and social m
savvy chapter. We thrive in the present by continuing to grow, change and adapt to the ever-cha
landscape of social change and re-litigation of civil rights we’ve already fought and won.
Today, this rock…diamond has been transformed into a highly functioning, dedicated and seam
smooth-running sisterhood. We are well positioned and prepared to excel in our- future as we co
tinue to move and lean forward while embodying the sorority’s guiding principles and high stand
of sisterhood, scholarship and service.
Always with love & support,
Marva Maples, Chapter President
