These past two years have been AMAZING as we have continued to grow in size and reach new heights in our capacity to be impactful in the Shelby County community. Our work during the 2021-2023 biennium deserves two pats on the back. As we pivoted from meeting virtually back to meeting in person, we continued with quality program planning and public service. In 2021, I stood before you and stated I wanted to expand our reach and impact by strengthening connections and expanding our network. Well, I think we did a pretty good job of doing that. Below are a FEW highlights from the 2021-2023 biennium:

Increased external partnerships and networks Updated the Crimson Express format We held our first Community Excellence Gala of over 500 guests where we recognized members of the community who possess a servant attitude and heart. We held our first Pearls of Pearlfection Debutant Cotillion on the same weekend as State Cluster and SCTAC was well represented at both! We conducted PSLF webinars about student loan forgiveness. Those efforts have contributed to over $6,232,743 dollars in student loan forgiveness and counting. IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT Ending the 2022-2023 sororal year with 576 financial members. Finally, after 7 years, we now have an approved Memorandum of Understanding with the Memphis Alumnae Chapter that allows both chapters to share the work and needs of ALL of Shelby County. Sorors, I appreciate your hard work and support. Being your chapter president has been an unforgettable experience. I have learned so much as a leader but most importantly I pray that I have made each of you proud. Remember to STAY CONNECTED!

Deltas on the Move Two Week Study in Ghana & Training in Orton Gillingham Literacy Curriculum Rica Davis Congratulations to Soror Rica Davis. She was chosen by Witness Tree Institute to participate in a two week study in Ghana to learn about Ghanaian culture. She was also chosen by the Stern Center to complete her Associate Level training in Orton Gillingham literacy curriculum. The training focuses on how to teach reading to students who have Dyslexia. Chaplain's Corner A N I N S P I R A T I O N A L W O R D June 2023 SOWING SEEDS OF LOVE! Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground, for it is time to seek the Lord until he comes and showers his righteousness on you. ~Hosea 10:12 As we end the fiscal year, it is important that we end with continuing to sow seeds and nurturing those seeds that have already been planted. We have so much work to do and each entity of our sorority needs a little water, some sun, and nutrients. Some of us will function as water being poured into various parts of our sisterhood while others will nurture. We will have sisters that will walk in with the brightest smile that will light up the room and provide us with sun that is needed for continued growth. All of us need to continue to ensure that our garden grows. I am often reminded of a story about a group of kindergarten students going to plant seeds while walking. The teacher instructed each student to plant a seed along the way. Many students planted seeds in the cracks of the sidewalk, others lost theirs and some held on to their seeds for later. As time went by the students reflected on how their seed had changed. One student proudly mentioned how they still had their seed in a bag while another student shrugged her shoulders because she lost her seed. However, there was one who stood proudly and announced that her flower bloomed. She was excited to share with the class how she along with her older sister walked by the crack where she carefully planted the seed and watered it. She talked about how they had brought soil to place in the crack of the sidewalk to make sure the seed had the nutrients it needed to grow and that she intentionally placed it where it could get plenty of sun. Which student are you? Will you be the Soror who takes your talents and put them away or one who lose interest of the task at hand? Or will you be the Soror who finds a place to plant a seed, water it, nurture it and enjoy the growth of SCTAC? You have a responsibility. With God, new beginnings are possible in our hearts and in our sisterhood. As we begin a new fiscal year with new leaders in place, let us always be reminded that we are bonded in sisterhood. Together we will work together to sow seeds, nurture them, and watch them grow. We are known for the great work that we have done, are doing and those to come. ONLINE DUES Financial News F I N A N C E T E A M As you may recall, Grand Chapter elected to move the annual accounting period to a calendar year fiscal reporting beginning January 2024. Grand Chapter has also elected to extend the 2022-2023 membership period by six months to accommodate the change in the fiscal year, which will occur in 2023. As noted below, adjustments have been made to the dues payable periods and membership coverage to help us successfully transition to the new format. Payment of membership dues and fees at this time will make you financial for the extended 2022-2023 fiscal year and eligible to participate in all activities from July 1, 2023, through December 31, 2023. Further details regarding this transition are posted in the Member Portal (Grand Chapter --> Financials - -> Resources) and will be updated as we move through this implementation. MEMBER PAYMENT TO CHAPTER Chapter dues for the extended 2022-2023 fiscal year are payable from January 1, 2023, through March 31, 2023, if you are a member of a local chapter. For those currently financial for 2022-2023, no further late or reinstatement fees will be applied, as the national dues have been paid. However, each member must pay six months of chapter dues by July 1, 2023, to keep financial status for the extended period of July 1, 2023 – December 31, 2023. The Tennessee Three From left, Tennessee state Reps. Justin Pearson, Justin Jones and Gloria Johnson hold their hands up as they exit the House Chamber Tennessee’s Republican-controlled House voted Thursday to expel two of three Democratic lawmakers who, a week ago, participated in a protest for stricter gun laws on the chamber floor. The House voted to expel Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson, who are both Black. The vote to expel their colleague, Rep. Gloria Johnson, who is white, failed. Justin Pearson currently represents parts of Memphis and Millington after being elected in a special election in January. At 28, Pearson became the second-youngest lawmaker serving in the Tennessee House. Pearson is the son of an educator and a preacher. Justin Pearson and Soror Kizzy Jones (SCTAC member) became known in Memphis when they co-founded the grassroots organization, Memphis Community Against the Pipeline to oppose a crude oil pipeline proposed for South Memphis. SCTAC participated in attending every Shelby County Commissioner meeting to apply pressure to advocate for the end to the pipeline. In 2021, the pipeline project was defeated.
