Harold Brad King
Office Seeking: Alderman, Position 1
Bartlett
Platform:
Owned King James Construction in Bartlett for 40 years, though King said he’s pretty much retired from
that venture. He also retired as a Memphis Fire Department captain in 2010. “I have been a business
owner in Bartlett,” King said. “I’ve dealt with budgets. I’ve dealt with interest rates as high as 13% or 15% in
the 1980s. I’ve been through 9/11. I’ve been through the 2008 recession. So as a business owner and a
builder, I had to adapt to the situation to deal with those hard times. I feel like I can bring that experience
to running the city. The city is a $90 million business, and I believe I can bring some good, practical
business experience if I’m elected as an alderman.” King wants to see more quality growth retail and
residential housing, address the city’s long-term sewer issue, enhance salaries for current and future city
employees and adopt a new Bartlett masterplan.

Jimmy D. Norman
Office Seeking: Alderman, Position 1
Bartlett
Platform:
The two big issues he’s campaigning on are addressing the city’s sewer issue to accommodate more
growth for Bartlett in the decades to come and attracting more businesses, particularly along Stage Road
where he feels there are too many vacant buildings.
“They are filling up a little bit right now, we’re doing much better, but we’ve had vacant buildings, some of
them have been there a long time,” Norman said. “We need more businesses in Bartlett. We need more
businesses that fit. Bartlett is a city of 60,000 people now and there’s some businesses that we need here
that we don’t have … I would like to see Bartlett be a little more business friendly to businesses.”

Victor Read
Office Seeking: Alderman, Position 1
Bartlett
Platform:
The main sticking point is the Bartlett Board of Mayor and Aldermen support of Union Depot, a mixed-
used development, that Read strongly opposes. He believes the city should only focus on adding more
single-family housing, not apartments.
“That’s proven current leadership is more interested in the expansion of budgets and headcount and
becoming the leading city in this area,” Read said on Union Depot. “I don’t think that’s proper. I think
growth is good, but proper growth is (better). I don’t think apartment complexes, townhomes and strip
malls are the answer.”
He would also like to see more restaurants in Bartlett such as local chain Huey’s along with a Whole
Foods and Trader Joe’s.

Stephen Spencer
Office Seeking: Alderman, Position 2
Bartlett
Platform:
"I know I can bring common sense to some crazy situations," Spencer, 62, said. "There needs to be
accountability to the citizens of Bartlett, which I don't feel there's been enough of."
Spencer said he'd like to see Bartlett continue to grow by first addressing some of the issues he believes
may be hindering that.
"We've got a golden opportunity," he said. "Because of the BlueOval City, we've got opportunities to really
help grow Bartlett to be part of the supply chain and all that sort of thing, too, and I don't think that the
city needs to let the opportunity pass."

Brandon Weise
Office Seeking: Alderman, Position 2
Platform:
He said Blue Oval City, the new Ford Motor Co. electric truck facility that will be built outside Brownsville,
could have a big impact on Bartlett and surrounding suburban cities. He said it is important for suburban
leaders to work together for the success of Blue Oval City.
“We need to be out in front, at the forefront, asking them (Ford) how we can help them, with all the
technical skills we already have established here in Bartlett,” he said.
Another multimillion-dollar issue that will have to be addressed is sewer, he said, noting that new
developments are not added to the sewer system now but require developers to build sewage holding
tanks.
He said he supports smart growth in development and believes the $162 million Union Depot mixed-
used development on the former Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home property at Highway 70 north of
Stage Road will be good for the area.
“Crime is always an issue. We’ve been fortunate to have Bartlett Police, and previous administrators have
kept us on the up and up,” he said.
Weise has been involved as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts, Eagle Scouts, and St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital among other community service efforts.

With an eye on stopping censorship and keeping controversial books in libraries, former librarian Aislinn
McEwen is seeking one of the Bartlett City Schools board positions on the Nov. 8 ballot.
McEwen is seeking the district’s Position 4 board seat, where Bryan Woodruff, the board’s chairman, has
served since the district formed in 2014.
As a former librarian at Christian Brothers High School and the University of Memphis, McEwen believes
freedom of speech is worth fighting for and the current trend of banning books is wrong.
