DAVID’S STORY IN PATHS, A CAREER
READINESS
David understands that his son, David II, is at an influential PROGRAM
age as he’s headed into his freshman year of high school.
The single-father didn’t have much guidance when growing 3,741
up, learned some tough lessons, and is now focused on
learning from both his successes and his failures so he and INDIVIDUALS USED
his small family of two can thrive. THE HARAMBEE

The father and son duo came to Iowa a few years ago, HOUSE COMMUNITY
starting in a shelter and reaching out to both Jane Boyd’s RESOURCE CENTER
Family Support to help with housing and basic needs, as
well as, the PATHS program to help David polish his resume
and connect with businesses. David quickly secured
employment and hasn’t looked back, recently
completing Jane Boyd’s Cedar Rapids
Entrepreneur Program, a collaboration with
GoDaddy’s GoCommunities program, and
expanding his own catering company at
an explosive rate.

A quiet and reserved young man, 212

to be successful. He’s watching his CHILDREN PARTICIPATED
father and gaining insight each day. IN THE ACHIEVEMENT
The teenager’s dad preaches to think ACADEMY
before he does something and to be
safe. In turn, David II’s eyes sparkle
with knowledge and awareness
beyond his years.

Being a self-motivated personality, this
father likes to do as much for himself as he
can and believes that whether you fail or succeed,
there’s always an applicable life lesson to be learned.
Sharing these lessons with his son and the rest of his community is
important as David sees it as his responsibility to be a positive role model.

As this family continues to succeed and see its future grow, they 25
recognize that the people at Jane Boyd have been a consistent
driving force in their lives that have helped catapult them to a
place where both father and son couldn’t be more proud
of the other.
