Over the last few months, the Mathare Future Design Basecamp planning taskforce; some of the<br>members comprising of staff from your organization, have worked tirelessly to achieve a successful<br>basecamp. Finally, between November 12th - 15th, the goal was achieved.<br><br>The Mathare River Future Design Basecamp focused on the socio-ecological regeneration of the<br>Mathare River. It is part of a wider initiative to develop sustainable, community-driven (all problem<br>owners) solutions for flood resilience and environmental restoration within the Nairobi Rivers<br>system. The planning taskforce with members of Nairobi River Commission; NEMA and TARDA,<br>NCWSC, WRA and County Government of Nairobi, river community, private sector, various other<br>government entities and a larger base of community members camped for 3 days at the Ndongoro Primary School grounds upstream of the Mathare River in Lower Kabete.<br><br>As a result, a few best possible outcomes were arrived at; including actions planned, going forward<br>and the seed initiatives that will begin to take shape promptly as we work together towards<br>restoration of Mathare River. The plans keenly integrate an interdisciplinary way of working in<br>taskforces. This integration secures long term development for the entire Mathare River (Nairobi<br>Rivers) Ecosystem.
