It is with great pleasure that Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) introduces the Borneo Leadership Transformation & Strategic Program, a visionary initiative aimed at shaping future leaders. This program represents a collaborative effort, a convergence of minds and aspirations from diverse centres, united by a shared commitment to empower our leaders. Inasmuch as in rapidly evolving global landscape, effective leadership is not merely a desirable trait; it is a necessity. Our approach in designing this program has been comprehensive. It is grounded in an understanding of the unique socio-cultural of Borneo, whilst embracing global best practices in leadership development. Through an amalgamation of theory and practicality, we aimed to not just impart knowledge but cultivate the skills and mind sets necessary to navigate complexities and drive impactful changes. GLOBALTRENDS AND CHALLENGES IN LEADERSHIP MODULE 1 In Module 1, participants delve into the dynamic landscape of global leadership. They explore the ever-evolving trends and challenges that influence leadership in a diverse and sustainable world. The module equips participants with a deep understanding of the complexities of navigating cultural differences and adapting to global trends, that might be related to Borneo development and transformation. By the end of this module, participants will be prepared to identify and address the critical issues shaping leadership practices on a global scale.
After successfully completing this module, participants should be able to: LO1: Analyse the current global trends in leadership and challenges in the context of sustainability and diversity (SDG11) LO2: Discuss leadership strategies for strategic direction (SDG17) 1: Understanding the Global Context (LO1) The evolving trends in global leadership. Contemporary debates in global leadership, such as generation gap, millennium leaders, digital maturity, cultural relativism & ethnic sensitivity. LEADERSHIP IN DIVERSITY MODULE 2 Module 2 focuses on leadership in diverse environments. Participants uncover the transformative power of diversity, learning to build inclusive teams and leverage the strengths of individuals from various backgrounds. Diversity can enhance creativity, better problem solving and increased innovation. This module aims to train leaders to effectively manage and leverage diverse teams within an organisation. Effective cross-cultural communication is vital for leadership in diversity thus good cross cultural communication techniques are emphasized, equipping participants to lead and inspire in multicultural settings. This module enables participants to become adept at harnessing the advantages of diverse perspectives in their leadership roles. Effective leadership in diverse environments can promote equality and embraces differences.

They gain insights into sustainability frameworks, environmental and social responsibility, and how to implement sustainable business models. By the end of this module, participants will be equipped to lead strategic process to become more sustainable, innovative and socially responsible.

In this module, participants will not only understand the importance of sustainability but also explore techniques for working together to tackle real-world challenges. By fostering a collaborative approach to problem-solving, we empower future leaders with the skills necessary to drive innovation, engage stakeholders effectively, and drive sustainable, diverse, and impactful solutions through knowledge co-creation.

INNOVATION IN LEADERSHIP MODULE 5 In Module 5, participants discover the intersection of leadership and innovation. They learn how to foster a culture of innovation and apply creative problemsolving techniques. With the dynamic environment exhibited in most organizations, creativity and innovation are critical for organizations to thrive in a world marred by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA). Navigating the ever-shifting landscape of technology demands astute leaders who champion innovation with sustainability and diversity as key solutions to complex situation. Therefore, having the right leadership is paramount. This module equips them to lead innovative initiatives that drive sustainability and diversity, whether in product development, service enhancement, or process improvement.

LEADING STRATEGIC CHANGE MODULE 6 Module 6 delves into change management frameworks, offering participants with a critical understanding of the nature of strategic change and practical tools and skills in leading and managing strategic change initiatives effectively, ensuring alignment with diversity and sustainability goals. By the end of this module, participants will be prepared to drive meaningful, strategic change while keeping sustainability at the forefront.
MODULE6 LEADING STRATEGIC CHANGE LEARNING OUTCOMES (LO) After successfully completing this module, participants should be able to: LO1: Evaluate the skills and knowledge required to lead and manage strategic change whilst ensuring they align with diversity and sustainability goals. LO 2: Develop the skills to lead and influence others through an effective change management plan and process. The essential change management terms (e.g., change vision, resistance, stakeholders) and the role of leadership in change management. 2: Strategic Change Initiative Planning and Implementation (LO2) Importance of leadership in driving change through effective communication strategies. Addressing issues on resistance towards change. Critical aspects of planning and implementing a strategic change initiative. Reflection on Leading Strategic Plan.
SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION ENGAGEMENT MODULE 7 Module 7 revolves around community engagement for sustainable transformation. Participants discover the art of stakeholder engagement, from identifying and analysing stakeholders to building partnerships for community development particularly in Borneo. Sustainable community transformation initiatives aligning with sustainable development goals and measuring the impact of these projects will be embedded in their leadership practice.

Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr.) Hamid Bugo, a Malaysian, graduated from Canterbury University, New Zealand with a Bachelor and a Master of Arts in Economics. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (NZ) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Studies from Harvard Institute of Development Studies, U.S.A.He was honoured with a Ph.D. (in Commerce) by Lincoln University, New Zealand. His working experience includes Administration Manager, Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd, the first General Manager of Land Custody and Development Authority, Sarawak, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Resource Planning, and State Secretary of Sarawak. As State Secretary, Tan Sri represented the State Government in various companies and statutory bodies including Malaysian Airline System Bhd, Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd, Employees Provident Fund, University Malaysia Sarawak and University Pertanian Malaysia. Upon retirement, Tan Sri also sat on the Board of several public listed companies including Sime Darby Berhad, Sapura Energy Berhad, Sapura Resource Berhad and Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd. Currently, Tan Sri is Chairman of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) and X-Fab Silicon Foundries SE,Belgium. He had also been involved in several NGO’s and government linked organization such as being a council member of Institute of Integrity Malaysia, Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC), and Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Masjid Negeri Sarawak. Tan Sri was a Chairman for National Library and State Library of Sarawak. Currently, he is currently a Chairman of Yayasan Kemajuan Insan (YAKIN). Tan Sri Hamid Bugo has travelled extensively. A Finance graduate from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in 1994, Datu Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Bin Haji Zaidel attained a PhD in Finance at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in 2014. He is also a Harvard Business School (HBS) Alumni. He is now the Deputy State Secretary Sarawak (Economic Planning and Development). Prior to the appointment, he was a senior Finance lecturer at the Faculty of Economic and Business, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), and was subsequently appointed as Special Administrative Officer to the Right Honourable Premier of Sarawak in charge of Project Strategy and Coordination. The role is specifically responsible for initiating, implementing and coordinating a high-impact economic development project for Sarawak. He was then promoted to Director, Economic Planning Unit Sarawak from 2019 to 2022. YBhg. Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Bin Haji Zaidel
Associate Professor Noraziah Abdul Wahab is the Director for University Sustainability Centre (USC), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). She is also an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Energy Sustainability, Faculty of Engineering, and Knowledge for Change (K4C) Mentor for Qadim Hub, UNIMAS. She is a Certified Mentor for Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) by UNESCO Chair in Community Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education, Certified TRIZ Practitioner Level 1 by International TRIZ Association (MATRIZ) and Certified Trainer by Malaysian Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp). Her area of specialization are water and wastewater engineering, sustainability leadership, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, and renewable energy, with over 25 years of experience in engineering industry and academic management. She is actively involved in spearheading STEM Education, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Community Transformation programmes for the State of Sarawak and at international level via current network. She is now involved in Borneo Studies Network (BSN) as the Principal Lead for Community Transformation Thrust, participating in Asia Pacific University-Community Engagement Network (APUCEN) and South East Asia Sustainability Network (SEASN). Associate Professor Dr. Halikul Lenando has served Universiti Malaysia Sarawak for 20 years as an academician. He previously was a Deputy Dean, Head of Department, and Programme Coordinator at Faculty of Computer Sciences and Information Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. He obtained his PhD in Mobile Communication discipline from Cardiff University, United Kingdom in June 2012. His research interest is in mobile communication networks specializing in the communication protocols and data dissemination performance in opportunistic networks. Currently, he is actively conducting research in mobile sensor networks communication research group in his faculty. As to enrich his expertise, he has been appointed to be a fellow researcher of the Institute of Social Informatics and Technological Innovations (ISITI) under the Network Communication Infrastructure team. Associate Professor Dr. Halikul Lenando is a certified TRIZ Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 (Part B) Practitioner. Professor Ir Dr Hjh Siti Noor Linda bt Hj Taib is the first woman to hold the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. She also served as the former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UNIMAS starting in 2018. Additionally, Professor Ir Dr Siti Noor Linda Taib is a registered professional geotechnical engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia and is an expert in problematic soils and slope stabilization. Active in impactful research and innovation, she is a highly respected and innovative researcher in strengthening research and discovery planning, especially in the field of engineering at UNIMAS. With 20 years of teaching experience and holding several leadership portfolios in university administration for the past 10 years, Professor Ir Dr Siti Noor Linda Taib's leadership has shone through her involvement in developing three new courses and a new Postgraduate Certificate to support the digital economy initiative in the state of Sarawak. Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Razip Bin Asaruddin is an academic staff at Faculty of Resource Science and Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. He is the inventor of VCE and founder of Lauryn Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, which is a spinoff company of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). His vision is to be a premier global biotechnology company specialized in Virgin Coconut Oil and to ultimately improve the overall quality of life within the global community through a culture of innovation and the adoption of cutting-edge biotechnology and best practices in research, products, and human capital development. With more than 20 years teaching experience, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Razip Bin Asaruddin was a former Deputy Dean (Industry and Community Engagement) at Faculty of Resource Science and Technology, UNIMAS. . He is a PhD holder in drug design from Universiti Sains Malaysia and Masters in Pharmacognosy from Kyoto University. He has more than thirteen years of experience in natural medicine mainly focused on virgin coconut oil (VCO). One of his biggest achievement is formulating the world first Virgin Coconut Emulsion (VCE). VCE is patented in Japan and the United States. Dr Isradi Zainal (IZ) is an Academic, Practitioner and Entrepreneur and has experience as a Leader. As an academic, Isradi Zainal or IZ is a permanent lecturer at Balikpapan University and currently serves as Chancellor of Balikpapan University (Uniba) and has experience as Dean at the Faculty of Engineering, Uniba 2018-2020 and Dean at the Faculty of Vocational Studies 2020-2021. At the national level, IZ has served as Secretary General of the Indonesian Engineering Deans Forum (FDTI) for the 2019- 2021 period, Secretary of the Lamtek Accreditation Council 2021-2022 and currently serves as Secretary General of the PII Chancellors Forum. As a practitioner, IZ is a surveyor, inspector, auditor, trainer and professional engineer. Isradi Zainal is Chair of the East Kalimantan Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) for the 2016-2019 and 2019-2022 periods. Apart from that, IZ served as deputy chairman of the Mechanical Vocational Board of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) 2016-2019, 2019-2022, 2022-2024. Currently, Isradi serves as Chair of Quality Assurance for the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII). As an entrepreneur, IZ is the Commissioner of the Insurin Group which operates in the fields of K3/Engineering Training and Consultation, Inspection and supervision as well as General trade. The partners of this company are mining, oil, shipping, coal, BUMN, BUMD, public services companies, etc. Currently Insurin is active in the IKN Nusantara project. As an entrepreneur, Isradi Zainal is the general chairman of the East Kalimantan K3 Services Companies Association 2016-2019, general chairman of the National K3 Services Entrepreneurs Association for the 2019-2022 period, chairman of Commission II of the National K3 Council 2020-2023, etc. Currently, Isradi Zainal serves as Deputy Chair of the East Kalimantan Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association (APINDO). Dr Ahmad Syafiq bin Ahmad Nasir is a Deputy Director (Community Engagement) at University Sustainability Centre, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). He is also an academic staff at Faculty of Resource Science and Technology, UNIMAS and his area of expertise is aquaculture. He obtained his PhD in Aquaculture from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (2018), and Master of Science in Aquaculture from National Taiwan Ocean University (2012). He is actively involved in implementation, management and monitoring of community engagement activities, particularly on coordination of the Service Learning Malaysia - University for Society (SULAM) initiative at University level. He is also experienced in working collaboratively with various stakeholders including government agencies, community partners and industries for community development projects. Among the projects he contributed are the Extreme Poverty Eradication Community Profiling (Economic Planning Unit, Ministry of Finance), Socio-Economics development Plan for HAD, URDA and NRDA with RECODA, and Delta GeoPark community engagement projects. Mr Haslan bin Ottot is an economist actively engaged in community projects encompassing health and tourism development to enhance socio-economic conditions. He conducts research in health, social equity, tourism, recreation, cultural heritage, and archaeology in Borneo. Currently pursuing a PhD in health economics, he earned his advanced degree in Queensland, Australia, specializing in these fields. Prior to that, he studied Tourism at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, showcasing his involvement in both niches. Since 2014, he has integrated service learning into his teaching, benefiting local communities. He aspires to expand this approach globally, with a focus on the ASEAN region and third-world countries. Mr Haslan is a HRD Corp certified trainer, and has vast experience in community engagement projects. His experience include Project Manager for Survey of Malaysian Smallholders (SOMS) Project with Khazanah National, Project Manager for ‘Program MKMF’ Kampung Jagoi, U4S Projek Marakau, Sabah, IRSDA Development Blueprint Plan, Socio-Economic Development Plan for Betong Division Development Agendy (BDDA), and Socio-Economics development Plan for HAD, URDA and NRDA with RECODA. Dr. Mohd Farid bin Atan is Deputy Director (Sustainability) at the University Sustainability Centre, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). He is also an academic staff member at the Faculty of Engineering at UNIMAS, and his area of expertise is process system engineering (PSE) related to wastewater treatment, renewable energy, and polyolefin polymerization. He obtained his PhD in Process System Control and Engineering from Universiti Malaya (2023) and his Master of Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering in Chemistry and Process Engineering from Ecole Superieure de Chimie, Physique et Electronique de Lyon (2010 and 2008). He is actively involved and works closely with various stakeholders in community engagement and sustainability-related projects. Among the projects are treated water supplies in rural schools and villages in Sarawak, Telecentre Project for Indigineous People Villages in Pahang, Kelantan, and Sarawak, SULAM Project for the community in Kuching and Kota Samarahan, and Strategic Planning Development Project for Bintulu Development Authority. He is also a focal person for sustainability reporting at UNIMAS. His contribution includes the development of the UNIMAS Sustainability Master Plan. Nadzirah Jausus is a Coordinator (Sustainability) at University Sustainability Centre, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). She is also an academic staff at the Faculty of Built Environment, UNIMAS and her area of interest is public space management and low carbon society. She obtained her Master in Architecture and Bachelor Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She is actively involved and work closely with various stakeholders in community engagement and sustainability related projects. Among her work includes developing low carbon society blueprint in cities such as Kuala Lumpur and Iskandar Malaysia region. Prior to joining UNIMAS, she practices as a Town Planner in Kuching, Sarawak.
