The Effects of Asthma on Teens

Asthma is a chronic disease that causes swelling and
inflammation in the airways that lead to your lungs. When asthma
flares up, the airways tighten and become narrower. This keeps the
air from passing through easily and makes it hard for you to
breathe. These flare-ups are also called asthma attacks. The effects
of asthma differ in people. Anyone can develop asthma, at any age.
Sometimes it starts as a baby, other times it starts later in
childhood or in the teen years. Although some kids seem to
"outgrow" asthma, the symptoms can return years later (Asthma).
Some people start having asthma symptoms after a bad cold or flu.
Some people only have asthma attacks in allergy season, or when
there is cold air outside, or when they exercise, or very often no
matter what. People can still live a full, normal life even if they do
have asthma (Teen). If someone is for sure if they have asthma,
some symptoms are: wheezing, making a loud or soft whistling
noise when you breathe, coughs a lot, feels tightness in their chest,
feels short of breath, has trouble sleeping because of coughing, has
a hard time breathing, and quickly getting tired during exercise
(Exercise). Some people think that they have trouble breathing
because they are out of shape. This might not always be it. If it is
because you are out of shape you would regain your breath after 5
minutes, but if it was asthma it would take up to an hour to fully
regain your breath. Asthma is a lifelong disease, treatment can
control it and keep you healthy.

Lemon Meringue Pie

Ingredients:

1 cup white sugar

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

4 egg yolks, beaten

3 tablespoons cornstarch

¼ teaspoon salt

1 (9 inch) pie crust, baked

1 ½ cups water

4 egg whites

2 lemons, juiced and zested

6 tablespoons white sugar

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)

To Make Lemon Filling: In a medium saucepan, whisk together 1 cup
sugar, flour, cornstarch, and salt. Stir in water, lemon juice and
lemon zest. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until
mixture comes to a boil. Stir in butter. Place egg yolks in a small
bowl and gradually whisk in 1/2 cup of hot sugar mixture. Whisk
egg yolk mixture back into remaining sugar mixture. Bring to a boil
and continue to cook while stirring constantly until thick. Remove
from heat. Pour filling into baked pastry shell.

To Make Meringue: In a large glass or metal bowl, whip egg
whites until foamy. Add sugar gradually, and continue to whip
until stiff peaks form. Spread meringue over pie, sealing the edges at
the crust. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until meringue is
golden brown

Lemon meringue pie is a really meaningful dessert in my
family. I only had it one or two times, but the few times I had
it, it was delicious. The homemade recipe is originally from my
great grandma. Everyone on my mom’s side of the family can
remember how good it used to be. Unfortunately my great
grandma passed away seven years ago. Everyone that knew her
knew that she was a really good baker. She would make so
many desserts, but the best one hands down was her lemon
meringue pie. My uncle Chad loved it the most. My mom told
me that he had it for every single one of his birthdays. When my
great grandma died, my grandma took most of her recipes
including the lemon meringue pie recipe. The only problem is, is
that she always had a hidden ingredient that she told no one
about. My grandma has tried making it since but it has not
worked out. It tastes nothing like what my great grandma used
to make. This has been a really important recipe in my family,
but unfortunately no one can figure out the one secret ingredient.

The Pilot Translator

Pilot is a very interesting new and upcoming technology.
There has been no other technology like it. Many critics have
explained it as something that people dreamed of in comics and
cartoons. But it's here.

The Pilot has been on a website in which they have a pre-
ordering campaign for their technology. The campaign began in
May 2016. Since then, Pilot has raised $4,413,403 in total funds
(Meet). The technology is supposed to be shipping out in May
2017 to all of the pre-orders. The cost of the Pilot Translation Kit
is $249.00.

The Pilot first began in June 2014. This was the concept and
feasibility studies. They then started their designs and concepts.
After that they went on to the software and design prototypes in
which they finished those by March and April 2016. This was the
end of their first phase. Since then most of their work has been
creating the app and mostly testing Pilot to make sure it is
working great for when they start shipping in May 2017 (Meet).

The Pilot is a translating device. It consists of two ear pieces.
You put one ear piece in your ear and another in the other
person's ear. The Pilot has an app in which you connect the two
ear pieces to it and choose the two languages (Wizard). Say if you
want to speak with someone in Spanish, you set the language to
English for you, and Spanish for them. When they speak in
Spanish it will translate to English, and when you speak English it
will translate to Spanish (Wizard). This technology has completely
changed the way people communicate, and might just be the
beginning of a new and great era.

Angela Harrish

Angela Harrish grew up in a really small town by the
name of Fairbank, Iowa. She is a pediatric nurse
practitioner. Angela initially signed under the Delayed
Enlistment Program at 16. She officially left for basic
training at the age of 18. Angela joined the military to serve
for 4 years and obtain money for college. She looked at all
branches of the military but the Air Force recruiter was the
only one that treated her respectfully and seemed to be
interested in what she had to say. Angela Harrish served 5.5
years enlisted, working in Accounting & Finance. She got out
to go to nursing school, where she was the first nursing
student to go through the AFROTC program at Troy State
University. Angela then went back on active duty as a
registered nurse and served for another 15 years. It was very
hard for Angela and her husband to raise their three
children while in the military. They identified themselves as
‘single but married with children’ since it was typical for
them to take turns as a ‘single parent’ while the other was at
work, training, deployed, etc. It has been a definite
adjustment for Angela to no longer being active duty and not
living around other people that understand the military.
Angela misses the trusting friendships and being a part of
the Air Force family. However, she does not miss the long
hours, missed family and school events, and overall stress of
being active duty.

Morkies

The Morkie is a dog breed that is from the Yorkshire
terrier and Maltese dog breeds. Maltese’s are not very big
dogs that only grow to be 8-12 inches in length and 3-10
pounds in weight. These dogs have a very soft coat and are
very good family dogs. Morkies usually love attention and
will crave it from families. Morkies are definitely lap dogs and
always strive to please their owners. Morkies that are treated
well and regular checkups will normally live between 14 and
16 years. Morkies barely shed at all but their owners have to
make sure to brush them daily. Morkies love to be in an
environment where they can be close to family. It doesn’t
matter whether you are living in an apartment, condo, or a
house a Morkie is good in any of them. Morkies also don't
need a big yard for exercising because most of the time they
will do it on their own. Both the Maltese and Yorkshire both
like to go on walks so it is no surprise that Morkies love to go
on extended walks. Going on a 1-4 hour walk with a Morkie
will result in a well-tempered lap dog. Morkies are always
wanting and in need of attention, so if you have a lifestyle
where you can take your Morkie with you while running
errands that will be a very good fit for you. Morkies
absolutely love going on rides and occasional socialization
with new dogs. Only after a few visits your Morkie will be
able to recognize and remember previous family members
and dogs it has met. Overall Morkies are very good lap dogs
that love to have a bunch of attention and be with their
family.

Perfect Game

Perfect Game is a baseball book by Matt
Christopher. Perfect Game is the first book in
its series of two. Throughout the book, it is
from two boy’s point of view. The two boys are
named Liam and Carter who are cousins. It goes
throughout the boy's journey in the Little
League Tournament. Liam lives in California and
they are competing in and hoping to win the
SoCal South Tournament, then after that they
hope to win Western Regionals, and finally to
Williamsport, Pennsylvania to win the Little
League World Series. The team that Liam plays
for is Ravenna. Carter (Liam’s cousin) used to
play for Ravenna too. Last year Carter moved to
Pennsylvania where he found a new team to play
for by the name of Forest Park. He has been
getting to know them and is becoming much, much
closer with his teammates. The two cousins are
like brothers and still contact each other by
long distance.

Overall this book is a very good book. If
you are into baseball, this is a great book for
you. What I like most about the book is that the
entire book is from both boys point of view and
switches off from Liam and Carter. In the book
it takes you through both of the boy’s entire
journey through the Little League tournament and
how each game goes. Also something that I liked
is how both Liam, and Carter continued to
communicate to each other throughout the
tournament and watch each other's games. The
boys have some hard fought games and overall
both teams want to get the ultimate prize, win
the Little League World Series.

trying to be on a late night gaming session? Ever feel
like caffeinated soda isn’t doing the job or you don’t
want to drink energy drinks that have chemicals in it?
That’s where G-Fuel comes in. G-Fuel is a powder
that comes in many sizes that all you have to do is
add the powder to water, mix it, and it is ready. G-
Fuel will give you the energy you need whatever
time of the day it is. G-Fuel either comes in little

over for a long time. G-Fuel has 15 different flavors

as much caffeine as a cup of coffee. Overall G-Fuel is
a great alternative of coffee, energy drinks, etc.

Trampoline Wrestling

One time i went tO my friend ryan’s
house with my other friend Gavin.
When we first got there Ryan had to go
do something so Gavin and I hid from
Ryan and stole some of his Twinkies. We
then gave up and let him find us. Later
on we went outside. We first made a
fire, but put it out right away. After
that we went OntO ryan’s trampOline.
We jumped around and then play crack
the egg (no one could crack me). We
then wrestled on the trampoline.
While we were wrestling, Ryan threw a
bunch of jelly beans in the
trampoline. We continued to wrestle
in the jelly beans. I then had to go and
the next day I figured out that I broke
Gavin’s Glasses.

Breaking My Leg

When I was in Kindergarten there
was a popular song by the name of
“Pants on the Ground.” I used to
love that song so much. I sang it
all the time. One time I was imitating
the song on my neighbor's
trampoline. It was me, my friend, and
my two sisters that were all on the
trampoline at the same time. When I
was imitating the song, I of course
was sagging. My pants fell to my
ankles on accident but I still kept
on jumping. When I was jumping on
the trampoline, I tripped on my
pants, and fell. When I was getting
up, my sister bumped my oldest sister,
and she landed on my leg. Turns
out I broke my leg.
