DIVINE BLESSINGS ־ CORELLON
Divine Blessings - Magic Items of the Gods Chapter 4: Corellon Corellon Larethian is the god of elves and leader of the Seldarine, the elven pantheon. Corellon is whimsical and free-spirited, having no definite form. Sometimes, they appear in the form of an elf, either male, female, or somewhere in between. Other times, they become something more abstract, such as a rain cloud, dancing lights, or a blooming flower. In the beginning, Corellon wandered the different planes of existence. During this exploration, they discovered a region of Arborea with which they felt a great affinity. Corellon expelled the original inhabitants, brutish giants who could not appreciate its wonders, and then shaped the region into the divine realm of Arvandor. Around this time, a growing rivalry began between Corellon and Gruumsh, god of the orcs. Gruumsh demanded and received respect from most of the gods, but Corellon refused to defer to him. This insult added to the friction created by their innate differences. Eventually Gruumsh's anger boiled over, causing a violent confrontation. The gods fought with axe and blade until they wounded each other. Gruumsh slashed Corellon, who in turn gouged out one of Gruumsh's eyes with the magical sword Sahandrian. The first elves were born from the blood that spilled from Corellon's wounds. These primal elves were fey spirits who could also change their forms at will, and they followed in Corellon's shadow as they returned to Arvandor. Noticing their unwitting creations, Corellon spent some time in Arvandor looking after them. Some were given names, elevating them to deities and creating the Seldarine pantheon. Corellon grew to love the elves and was loved in turn. Most of all, Corellon loved Araushnee, whom they took as a A Note on Pronouns Corellon is at times male, female, both, or neither. This causes no confusion in the original Elvish, since it does not use gendered pronouns. In translating this history into the Common tongue I used the singular "they" even when Corellon took a gendered form. companion. She was the first to give up the freedom of form, taking the appearance of an elven female as we know them today. Corellon was conflicted by this because they prized freedom of form so highly, but love won in the end. For a while, Corellon appeased Araushnee by choosing a male form. They had two children, Eilistraee and Vhaeraun. Araushnee's first rebellion against Corellon was her desire to be strictly female and convincing Corellon to fix their form as well. Her second rebellion was to attempt to take over Arvandor. Araushnee believed that the elves were destined for greatness and dominion over the other races, but Corellon's independent and carefree attitude prevented them from reaching their true stature. Most of all, Araushnee despised that Corellon wanted the elves to have the freedom to do everything except make actual choices. She began to undermine Corellon, encouraging all of the elves to follow their example and choose a fixed form. The ones that did so began to see her as their mother, and Corellon as their father. Her dark schemes did not end there, as she instigated their enemies to wage war against the elves. As Corellon and the elves lined up for battle, Araushnee brought them Sahandrian within a cursed scabbard that attracted arrows. During the fighting, Eilistraee's arrows curved towards Corellon, grievously wounding them. It was only by chance that they survived. After the war, an enraged Corellon learned of Araushnee's betrayal and confronted her. Feeling cornered, and taking advantage of Corellon's weakened state, she attacked. The elves chose sides in this conflict, creating a rift in the Seldarine. Having defeated their enemies, the elves had turned on each other. Araushnee fought until it became clear that she could not win. She then ran away from Arvandor in a panic, looking for a sanctuary where Corellon's wrath could not reach her. She found such refuge in the Abyss, claiming a realm of her own. Under its corrupting influences, she eventually became the dark queen Lolth. Corellon resented everything that had any connection with Lolth. Eilistraee and Vhaeraun went into exile and Corellon expelled from Arvandor the elves that had fixed their forms. The ones that favored Lolth followed her into dark places and eventually became the drow. The ones that favored Corellon went to the Feywild, and from there to other planes. Eventually, they became the elves that we know today. 2 This is unofficial Fan Content permitted under the Fan Content Policy. Not approved/endorsed by Wizards. Magic Items While pursuing my goal of discerning the purpose regarding magic items related to the gods, I've found many to be of great intrigue. Some are unique, reserved for specific individuals of note or rank. Others are more common, made to be used by a more novice or introductory follower. Blade of the Protector Martial weapon (longsword), melee weapon, uncommon This blade emits a dim blue glow when an orc or a follower of Lolth is within 100 feet. Unless you are incapacitated you can't be surprised by orcs and followers of Lolth while wielding this weapon. When you hit an orc or a follower of Lloth with this weapon, that creature takes an extra 1d8 slashing damage. "Elvish kingdoms award these blades to rangers, guards, and scouts, to help protect them from the enemies of the Seldarine." Cloak of the Seldarine Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement by a spellcaster of good alignment) While you wear this cloak with its hood up, Wisdom (Perception) checks made to see you have disadvantage, and you have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide, as the cloak's color shifts to camouflage you. Pulling the hood up or down requires an action. When you cast a beneficial spell of 1st level or higher on a creature other than yourself, you receive the favor of Corellon. For one minute, the next time you roll a d20 for an ability check, attack roll, or saving throw, roll a d4 and add the number rolled to the result. "The Cloak of the Seldarine is a mark of prestige within the church of Corellon. It is awarded to those that perform great deeds in Corellon's name." Crescent Moon Bow Martial weapon (longbow), ranged weapon, rare You have a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon. Instead of arrows, it shoots beams of pure moonlight which deal radiant damage. A shapechanger struck by a beam must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, they revert to their original form and can't assume a different form until the end of your next turn. "Inspired by Corellon's bow Amlath'hana, the Crescent Moon Bow is prized by the elves because it can never run out of arrows. It is especially useful against the progeny of Malar, the creator of the first lycanthropes. Most surviving bows are currently in the possession of the Lythari, elvish lycanthropes that can transform into wolves but not hybrid forms." Elven Knight Armor Heavy Armor (plate armor), very rare (requires attunement) You have a +1 bonus to AC while wearing this armor. This armor is made from Mithral, a light and flexible metal. It does not have a Strength requirement and it does not impose disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks. Also, your movement is unaffected by difficult terrain. While wearing this armor, you may use an action to cast the freedom of movement spell on yourself. The armor can't be used this way again until you finish a long rest. "This armor is worn by high-ranking members of the Fellowship of the Forgotten Flower, a paladin order dedicated to the church of Corellon." Starforged Elven Blade Martial weapon (longsword), melee weapon, very rare (requires attunement by an elf) You have a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon. Your attacks with this weapon score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20. Additionally, when you score a critical hit, your target must pass a DC 17 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, they are blinded until the end of your next turn. "This sword is a memory forged into an weapon, recalling Corellon's sword Sahandrian and the legend of their battle with Gruumsh. It is made entirely from star metal, and blessed a thousand times by Seldarine priests. No follower of Corellon would allow this blade to fall into non-elven hands." Damra the Wise Damra rose from humble beginnings to become an archmage and Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep. He was a prodigy in his youth, earning the moniker "the Wise" due to his education on countless topics. Rumor has it that Damra owns a magical grimoire filled with lost knowledge, but no one knows what it looks like. He currently serves as the Arcane Forgemaster and is a professor of Magical Binding and Magical Research. He has not left Candlekeep in almost a decade, but during his youth he traveled to Cormyr, Amn, Waterdeep, and many other places, including several planes. Damra is a patient teacher and is willing to share his knowledge with those he deems worthy, provided that it won't be used for evil. He is often sought out by adventurers when they find something magical of unusual origin, such as an item that resists magical identification. In return for his assistance, Damra is interested in new or forgotten knowledge and magic items. Damra loves humor of all kinds, from bawdy to obscure. Some of his jokes contain references that only the educated would understand, and he uses them to measure someone's knowledge. Damra can be quite stubborn, never being swayed by an argument unless he personally sees wisdom in it. He also never gives up hope even in the most dire of circumstances. He would rather die with integrity than survive in infamy. He has connections with both the Harpers and the Lords' Alliance, assisting them when something magical threatens the realms. Damra has particular contempt for the followers of Shar, who actively oppose Mystra and threaten the Weave. He can also be swayed to assist those that work against Lolth, but always covertly in order to protect his loved ones from the Spider Queen's wrath.
