Just like Italy is shaped like a boot, Slovenia also has a fun twist to it - its shaped like a chicken. With all those farms around, it kind of fits. But there’s more to this country than its feathered identity. Slovenia is full of beauty and hidden gems that not everyone knows about. Slovenia is a small Central European country Squeezed between the Alps in the north and the Adriatic Sea in the south. There are lowlands in the east, stretching on through Hungary. Southern neighboring country is Croatia, western Italy, northern Austria and eastern Hungary. There are mountains and hills for all you mountain climbers, wild forests, beautiful rivers and lakes for fishing, canoeing, rafting, waterfalls, caves, plains and of course the sea - you name it, we’ve got it all: on only 20.273 km2. Well, we only have 46.6 km of sea coast – that’s about a centimeter per inhabitant. Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, has a rich history. It began with ancient pile-dwellers and later saw Illyrians, Celts, and the Roman city of Emona in the 1st century AD. The name “Ljubljana” appeared in 1144. Throughout the Middle Ages, it grew as the economic and cultural center of Slovenia. In 1809, it became the capital of the Illyrian provinces under Napoleon. Since 1991, it has been the national capital. Ljubljana, named the European Green Capital in 2016, balances history and modernity. It preserves traces from Roman, Renaissance, Baroque, and Art Nouveau periods. The city showcases a blend of eastern and western cultures, combining Italian art concepts with Central European cathedral aesthetics. Today, Ljubljana is a vibrant city where the old seamlessly meets the new. Its five-millennia-long history is evident in the architectural gems scattered across the city, from the remnants of Roman Emona to the charming Renaissance and Baroque facades. The city center boasts ornate doorways, romantic bridges along the Ljubljanica river, and lopsided rooftops that tell tales of times gone by. Additionally, a lush park extends deep into the heart of the city, offering a serene escape. Ljubljana’s unique character is a testament to the convergence of diverse cultural influences, creating a captivating blend that captivates both locals and visitors alike. ABOUT LJUBLJANA

FOOD Slovenia is known for having killer wines, beers that spark a friendly rivalry (Union vs. Laško), and mouthwatering traditional dishes like • Potica • Krofi • Buhteljni • Žganci • Štruklji • Jota • Kranjska Klobasa Now, about that beer feud – it’s a thing. In Ljubljana, it’s mostly Union fans, but venture out and Laško takes the spotlight. Funny thing is, both brands are under the same company now, and some say they’ve lost a bit of their charm. Now, let’s talk wine – we’ve got three wine regions, each with ten subgroups doing their own thing. Wine here is a big deal, and you won’t believe the bargains you can snag from local producers. Get ready for a taste bud adventure – we’ve got the goods, and we’re ready to share! Cheers!
