29th Western Region My esteemed Brothers of the Western Region:
Vice President
On behalf of both the Regional Leadership and Convention planning teams, I
greet you in the spirit of Brotherhood and welcome you to the 70th Western
Region Convention. The host chapters of Omicron Tau, Delta Psi Lambda and
Iota Omicron Lambda have been working hard in preparation for this occasion
and are poised to showcase the hospitality we have come to appreciate here
in the “Mile High City.”

Since assuming the role of Western Region Vice President, I have grown to be
even more encouraged by the compassion of our Brotherhood and awestruck
by the ideas and foresight of our beloved Jewels. These historic scholars and
organizational architects left us an incredible legacy of leadership and service,
to which this Regional Leadership team is committed to building upon, while
also advancing the plight of our fraternity and the communities we serve. These
guiding principles have heavily influenced the theme which embodies our
aspirations for this convention, “Better Alphas. Better Men. Better
Brotherhood.”

As we prepared for this Convention, we worked to create opportunities for our
Brotherhood to flourish and I encourage you to take advantage of all that is
offered. Brother Roland Martin hosting our public program featuring a dialogue
on “The Education Crisis in Communities of Color;” workshops on
Entrepreneurialism; Educational Paradigms; Alpha History and Protocol; and
Career Pivoting. Moreover, the opportunity to build more business acumen
through the Alpha Shark Tank, party with the legendary DJ Kid Capri, listen to
the current and a past General President, and elect the next AVP to highlight a
few options.

Thank you for being here to support your region and while here networking,
sharing stories and enjoying the fellowship, I encourage you to reconnect to
the spirit and soul of Alpha Phi Alpha in your own unique way. I am convinced
that the more you invest into Alpha, the more you will grow and prosper from

your investment. So please invest wisely and #MSSH.

Western Region Assistant Vice President Executive Director

Fraternally Yours, To the Good Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha,

Andre Sterling It has been my utmost pleasure to serve as your Western Region Assistant
Western Region Vice President in this past year alongside our 29th Western Region Vice
Assistant Vice President President, Bro. Dondrell Swanson. I have learned much, been exposed to
many new things and gained a broader and richer view of our fraternity by
serving on our Board of Directors. I wish that every college brother could
experience the responsibility and reward of serving Alpha at this level. It has
truly been an enriching and enlightening experience.

I am excited to welcome everyone to Denver, CO but I must admit, I am
overwhelmingly excited to welcome the College Brothers of the West to our
70th Western Region Convention here in Denver, CO!!! We have a packed
agenda but I believe our time here will provide lasting benefit to our college
brothers individually and our college chapters collectively.

We are going to be providing our college chapters with the tools needed to
be successful once they return to their college campuses. This weekend, we
will continue to develop a firm foundation for increasing the strength of our
brotherhood while strengthening and rejuvenating our spirit of service as
Alpha men but most specifically as collegiate Alpha men.

I am glad to have been a part of an administration with a definite and
unrelenting goal to increase membership across the board for our college
chapters. While my term as AVP will end before this goal is fully realized, I
know Alpha West is putting things in place to firmly set our college brothers
up for success following graduation. A variety of topics offered this
convention will focus on providing our college brothers the tools needed to
chart their own course for success no matter where life may take them.

So gear up Brothers! This WRC, we will be working toward the better making
of men, becoming better Alphas and building a better brotherhood. With
grip…

Fraternally Yours, My Brothers of the West,

Jonathan D. Madison, Ph.D. Under the leadership of our 29th Western Region Vice President, Bro. Dondrell
Western Region Swanson, and on behalf of the operational nucleus which is the 29th Western
Region Administration of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., I bid you:
Executive Director “Greetings & Salutations!”

This weekend, we find ourselves again assembled to carry out the business of
our Region. In the tradition-honoring and innovate spirit of Alpha, we are
leveraging new technology this convention to not only enhance but also
improve and refine the convention experience for all. While several digital
advances have been integrated into this year’s convention, most will, by
design, remain unseen. You should however experience a bolstered
registration and ticketing experience, a more seamless delegate certification
process and an amplified programming schedule. A few operational
highlights we’ve employed this year that we think you’ll enjoy include :

Functionalized Name Badges – This year, your registrant badge is equipped
with, not one, but two separate QR codes containing your registrant profile.
The front code will be used for admission into sessions and events. The back
code can be scanned with your phone or mobile device to instantly exchange
networking information with other registrants.
Extended Guidebook – This WRC, we are also utilizing the full build of
guidebook which allows for direct integration with multiple social media
outlets, instant messaging between registrants, photo galleries, session track
groupings, a built-in QR code reader and much, much, more.
Electronic Tracking for All Trainings & Sessions – Tired of having to pass a
sign-in sheet and borrow a pen to receive training credit? Well, so are we.
Credit for all trainings and certifications will now be recorded digitally by
scanning your badge’s QR code. Therefore, we ask all brothers to be sure to
keep your badge with you and to scan in and out of every session you attend.
IT & Logistics Help Desk – Realizing all brothers may not be equally
comfortable with new technology, and to ensure all get the most out of their
convention experience, we will provide an IT & Logistics Help Desk for the
duration of the convention. Let us assist you with any WRC technology
concern you may have. Just stop in and ask your question. We’ll be happy to
help.

Let’s make this a Western Region Convention to remember. ‘06

Fraternally Yours, Greetings and Goodwill Brothers,

Western Region I am thrilled to welcome my Brothers of Alpha, families and guests to the 70th
Director of Conventions Western Region Convention of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in Denver,
Colorado. Further, I thank the brothers of the local host chapters - Delta Psi
Lambda, Iota Omicron Lambda, Pi Xi Lambda and Omicron Tau, as well as the
Rocky Mountain District for their tireless work over the past several months to
ensure this is the best regional convention yet. Building on the successful
framework of the Leadership Academy, the regional leadership team has
planned a dynamic agenda that will challenge, inspire and empower brothers—
both novice and seasoned—through innovative, practical and
sustainable activities coalesced around the “Better Men, Better Alphas, Better
Brotherhood” theme.

Where better to conduct the important work of this great house than in the
Mile High City, Denver. Our host property, Hyatt Regency Denver Tech
Center is conveniently located in the heart of Denver’s most prestigious
business district; near Park Meadows Mall and Landmark Entertainment
District; minutes away from downtown; and within walking distance of the
Light Rail. In addition to the suggested activities, many tour companies offer
discounted tickets to family friendly attractions, arts and culture events, and
outdoor exploration trips. Day or night, Denver offers entertainment and
activities for everyone.

During the convention, remember that the brothers of the Rocky Mountain
District stand ready to help you navigate the host hotel and other local
venues. Any brother who wears a host badge stands ready to assist.

For more than a century, Alpha men have continued to meet the challenges
of today while anticipating the needs of tomorrow. I thank each of you, in
advance, for attending the convention and contributing your expertise to
further our vision. Remember, you are our greatest asset today and tomorrow,
and we could not accomplish what we do without your support, participation
and leadership.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Western Region Convention Guests,

The Adams 14 School District is proud to welcome you to Denver for your 70th Anniversary
Western Region Convention. As a richly diverse educational institution, we greatly respect your
long and proud history of supporting academic, racial and social equity.

We resonate with your foundation principles of scholarship, fellowship, good character and the
uplifting of humanity. These are the same kinds of attributes we work to instill in our students.

We are honored to have an Alpha Phi Alpha alumnus now serving on our elected board of
education. Harvest Thomas is a fine leader who is one of the board’s officers – secretary.

Alpha Phi Alpha has been recognized as a leader across the nation with its priorities of stressing
academic excellence among its members. The brotherhood also recognized the need to help
correct the educational, economic, political and social injustices faced by African Americans.
Alpha Phi Alpha has long stood at the forefront of the African-American community's fight for
civil rights through leaders such as W.E.B. DuBois, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Edward Brooke,
Martin Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Andrew Young, William Gray, Paul Robeson, and
many others. True to its form as the “first of firsts,” Alpha Phi Alpha has been interracial since
1945.

We’re proud to welcome such a distinguished group to the Denver area and wish you all a
productive, energizing and enriching conference. We also encourage you to explore all the fun
you can have in our vibrant, culturally rich and scenic metropolitan area.
