Message from
the Headmaster
“The character-building virtues
are based on the school values of
a ‘GIVER’S HEART’, namely, Gratitude,
Integrity, Virtuousness, Empathy and
Resilience. At SPCPS, our boys will learn to
serve others with a giving heart, develop an
unshakeable moral core, and become a young
man with a joyful spirit.”

On behalf of all of our staff and students, I welcome you to the St. Paul’s College Primary School community. I
hope that from reading our prospectus you will have gained a sense of our mission and how we put our values into
action. Proud of its humble beginnings and long history, SPCPS is committed to nurturing our boys’ minds, bodies and
souls. We look forward to carrying on the traditions which have been established, while exploring new ways to enrich
our school so as to bring out the best in every child that comes under our care. We take this mission as our sacred trust.
Our ethos is summed up in the College song: “Brothers, here we stand together, all for each and each for all”. We
strive to provide a vibrant, caring, happy and healthy environment conducive to boys’ learning based on mutual trust
and respect. We expect our boys to be part of an interdependent and cohesive community – one which values each
boy for his skills and talents and moves towards continuous self-improvement as part of a learning community. During
this period in our boys’ development, the formation of their spiritual, academic, aesthetic and moral core is being firmly
established.
We are committed to equipping our boys with the skills required to tackle the challenges of the 21st century
(4C’s: critical thinking, creative thinking, communicating, and collaborating). These skills are vital to success in school
and beyond. Academic excellence and high expectations are critical parts of our value systems. However, the character-
building virtues are based on the school values of a ‘GIVER’S HEART’, namely, Gratitude, Integrity, Virtuousness, Empathy
and Resilience. We ensure that Responsibility, Respect and Sincerity are also carefully integrated into the 12-year
education in the SPC community. Instilling a value system that will serve them well throughout their life is the cornerstone
of our school. At SPCPS, your son will learn well; but more importantly, he will learn to serve others with a giving heart,
develop an unshakeable moral core, and become a young man with a joyful spirit.

Curriculum

Curriculum
Our formal curriculum includes English, Chinese and Putonghua, Mathematics, General Studies, Religious
Education, Physical Education, Music, Visual Art, Computer Literacy, Library and Personal Growth Education. Our life-
wide learning programme that works alongside the formal curriculum enables our students to learn through interesting
projects, talks, visits, and field trips with the aim of achieving a “Whole Person Education”. In addition, the School
incorporates various Co-curricular Activities (CCAs) into the normal lessons based on the concept of “learning through
doing”. We strive to develop self-directed learning and the multiple intelligences of our students.
We believe that language learning is more effective if we provide primary school students with a stimulating and
linguistically rich environment. A unique language policy has been adopted in our curriculum. We aim to offer our
students an early and enriched English language programme, starting with using English as the medium of instruction
in 20% of our General Studies lessons at lower primary levels, and gradually increasing it to 80% at upper primary
levels. English is also used as the medium of instruction in our Religious Education lessons in which stories of God’s
teaching, role models of Jesus and his followers and Christians’ life during the Early Church time are covered. Three
full-time native-speaking English teachers are employed to teach students English communication skills and organise
extracurricular activities, such as English Club, Drama Club, choral speaking and journalist workshops, etc. Equally,
Putonghua receives due attention. Chinese lessons are taught in Putonghua starting from J. C. 4, with an aim to expose
our students to sound language acquisition habits from an early age. Small class education is also implemented in
Chinese and Mathematics to cater for the diverse learning needs of students.

Makeblock Inventor
Curriculum
STEM Education
Boys are naturally fond of science and mathematics. They are full of curiosity about the things around them and
have unlimited creativity. To cater for the boys’ unique natural endowment, we actively respond to STEM education.
Not only have we adjusted and integrated the three main subjects’ curriculum, namely General Studies, Mathematical
Studies, and Computer Studies, but we have also created a variety of practical opportunities for students to apply
what they have learnt to ensure that their creativity and efforts are demonstrated and recognised. We attach great
importance to STEM education and hope that students develop their common ability from a young age in
discovering problems, facing problems, and solving problems, and accordingly, are fully prepared and have
confidence to cope with rapid changes and various challenges in the future world.
In order to coordinate with the development and needs of the school-based STEM
curriculum, in addition to incorporation of programming elements in the Computer
Studies, abundant relevant educational resources are added, such as Makeblock
Inventor Electronic, VEX Robotics, mBot robot, GIGO scientific experiment
kit, micro:bit, British rocket car module, 3D stereo printers, etc. to assist
students’ learning and allow them to use scientific, technological,
mathematical, and engineering knowledge to invent and create
from exploration. Furthermore, STEM relevant subject
matters in General Studies are taught in English for
smooth transition with secondary school curriculum.
15
VEX Robotics、Odyssey of the Mind、Global Natural
History Day Competition
Curriculum
Nurture Talents
In order to cultivate STEM talents, we encourage parents and students to participate in STEM-based parent-child
research. We further implement a “Scientific Inquiry (Self-enhanced Programme)” for providing more professional and
in-depth training for J. C. 4-6 students who have strong interest in science and further developing their potential.
By taking initiative to invest in STEM learning, actively
participating in different competitions and gaining
experience, students have demonstrated outstanding
performance and won numerous awards in various
international competitions, such as VEX Robotics,
Odyssey of the Mind, and Global Natural History Day
Competition.
17

Curriculum
Extra-Curricular Activities
Our school provides a diverse selection of non-academic learning programmes to help
students discover, develop and stretch their interests and potential so that they can develop a
healthy, positive attitude towards life.
Our school runs a series of ‘life-wide learning’ activities including field visits, outdoor experiences,
seminars and performances. During lessons, students can join a wide range of activities such as sports, reading,
mathematics, music, language arts and gardening. Senior boys are entrusted with playing a leading role in groups
which helps cultivate their leadership skills and encourages them to serve others. The ‘life-wide learning’ activities have
penetrated into our curriculum to enrich students’ learning experiences.
Co-curricular Activities (CCAs) are carried out in two consecutive periods within the timetable based on the idea
of ‘learning through fun’ to enable our students to develop their multiple intelligences in areas such as science, visual
art, language arts, drama, chess, music and sports. We have also implemented ‘Self-enhanced Learning Programme’ for
talented students who would like to further improve their skills through professional and systematic training, including
sports, music, visual art and science. In addition, we have had a splendid array of school teams receiving regular training
and representing our school to excel in competitions all year round.

Global Classroom

“Global Classroom” is a programme tailor-made by the St. Paul’s family to provide more
learning opportunities for students. We believe that what students learn within a classroom can
help them lay the foundations of knowledge while it is of equal importance that the school trains up
future pillars of the society, broadens their world horizons and instils the responsibilities of a world
citizen in them. We, therefore, provide our students with a variety of unique learning opportunities
across different stages of their school life and at different times every year so that they can learn
beyond the classroom. Under this programme, students can explore different parts of the
world. For instance, students experienced life in remote villages in China. Some of
them joined the sports training programmes in Japan and South Korea together
with their ‘big brothers’ from the College. Some students visited the NASA
to learn about the advanced aerospace technology, and some immersed
themselves in an English-speaking environment by joining language
courses in the United Kingdom. “Global Classroom” provides
students with precious learning opportunities outside the
classroom. Not only do they learn more and understand
more about the world but they also build up their
courage and confidence to face new challenges.
Above all, they learn to be thankful for
what they are given and strive to give.

We are devoted to cultivating students’ positive values with “GIVER’S HEART” and nurturing them to be
considerate of others and to contribute to the community with “Gratitude”, “Integrity”, “Virtuousness”, “Empathy”,
and “Resilience”.
To offer better pastoral care for students, we have put in place the ‘dual class teacher system’, and employed
a professional team consisting of an educational psychologist, a speech therapist and two social workers, to provide
comprehensive care for students in various aspects such as their mental, bodily, affective, and social communication
development. We implement a cyclical student growth plan to encourage
students to be responsible for themselves as the beginning, and to extend
it onto the family, the school, the community and even the country. At the
same time, the Plan also provides students with opportunities to learn outside
the classroom broadening their horizons and thereby preparing them to be a
world citizen. In addition, our school carefully arranges special lessons for
students to help them understand and treasure love through the tough work
experience, by which they realise the importance of serving others.
Diversified growth activities are geared to the needs of our students with
an objective to maximise their potential, enabling them into becoming a group
of positive, optimistic, confident and sunny “Paulines”.

Parent Education
If parents can identify the key features and needs of their children, they will be able to nurture their kids more
effectively. The PTA actively promotes parent education. Besides regular sharing sessions providing a sound platform
for parents to share views, it also invites scholars, professionals, social workers to conduct workshops with topics from
children’s intellectual development, interpersonal communication, study skills to emotional management of parents,
with an aim to equip parents with improved parenting skills for the holistic development of their children.

Our school has put in place a comprehensive
scholarship system to encourage students to
excel in various areas such as academics, sports,
arts as well as service. To ensure that students
will not be deprived of the opportunity to join our
St. Paul’s family solely because of their inability to
pay fees, we offer to parents with financial needs
a fee remission and bursaries scheme. Please visit
our school website for detailed information about
the scheme and related application procedures.
