ABOUT The DOB offers opportunities year round. Our agency employs high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. During Summer 2022, the agency had 90+ student interns working between 25-35 hours a week. What is the Department of Buildings (DOB)? We are a NYC government agency dedicated to the safety of those who build, work and live in New York City. DOB inspects over 1.1 million buildings to ensure their safe and lawful use. Spend a Summer with the DOB! Intern Events & Workshops The Youth and Industry Engagement Team at the DOB hosts professional development workshops for interns. Past topics have included: Resumes and Cover Letters Interviews and Networking NYC Jobs and Civil Service Students gather in groups to give feedback on each others' resumes, participate in mock interviews, and learn about jobs and civil service exams within New York City. Interns have the chance to network and build community in team-building events. We had a past turnout of 100+ interns! Interns participated in fun group activities and socialized together. Furthermore, the DOB also hosts career panel discussions where subject matter experts discuss their career paths, the work happening at the DOB and its impact across the city. The DOB has interns in all 5 boroughs. They gain experience both in the office and out in the field. 90+ Interns in Action Interns are assigned to a specific DOB unit and work closely with their supervisors, who are industry experts. Each intern is given their own cubicle, plays a vital role on their team, and contributes to projects that impact New York City.

"From day one every task I have been given has had some form of value in a larger project and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to help with real projects rather than "busy work."
