PRINCIPAL’S NOTE

Dear Lancers:
I take this opportunity to wish you all the best as you begin the 2018-2019 season in your chosen sport.
Moreover, I thank you for your commitment to your team, your efforts in improving your skill sets, and your
willingness to represent Livingston High School in such a positive manner on the field of competition. No
matter what your role is, your contributions lead to the overall success of Lancer Athletics.
We owe our gratitude to all of the Lancer coaches who dedicate their time and talents to supporting our student
athletes in their pursuits of excellence both on and off the field. They represent the spirit, compassion, work
ethic, respect, and balance that lead to team success. Over the last three years, the program has been under the
incredible leadership of Mr. Dave Cohen, to whom this program is dedicated, and I congratulate him on his
successes in guiding Lancer Athletics to our current state. At the same time, we welcome Mr. Richard Porfido,
who now takes the torch and assumes the role as our Athletic Director.

FOOTBALL

The 2018 Livingston Lancer’s football team will be entering the year with some veteran returning players and some
new faces. The returners will be called upon to provide leadership to build off of last years playoff appearance season.
With explosive skill players and a solid offensive line the offense looks to continue to put pressure on opponents with
a high tempo no huddle offense. The defense this year is extremely fast and flies to the ball carrier. The team has put
in tremendous work in the summer and a tough camp. With opening day against Randolph on August 31st quickly
approaching the Lancers are excited for the challenge ahead.

BOY’S CROSS COUNTRY

The 2018 Cross Country season promises to be a very exciting one on the boy’s side with a
mix of experienced and inexperienced runners. Last season, the boys won the Liberty Division Title and due
to their success, the team will be competing this year in the American Division, which is the most competi-
tive of the three divisions in the county. The team will be led by their two senior captains Jonathan Chen and
Jonathan Ackerman. The captains will look to lean on varsity returnees Andrew Brennan, Philmon Mehari and
Adam Dzieszko as well as seniors Max Esralew, William Osborne, Jackson Petryna and Cristian Zapata to
help lead drills, practices and develop a sense of team this season.

The coaches are excited to return a large number of sophomores and juniors to the lineup as
well as introduce many first time members to the cross country family. The first few weeks of practice have
been promising and we are eager to get the season under way. Coaches are optimistic that many of these
younger athletes will be able to step up and contribute on the varsity level.

The team will be opening this season in early September at Branch Brook Park with the first of 4 dual
meet competitions. The teams’ success this season will depend on a strong focused work ethic throughout the
line-up, staying healthy and a positive cohesive team attitude that can stay focused on achieving team goals.
With a large number of returnees on the roster and many new freshman athletes, we are excited to start the
season. Go Lancers!

GIRL’S CROSS COUNTRY

The 2018 Girls Cross Country program will shortly open their season competing in the Super Essex
Conference (SEC). After a one year stint in the American Division of the SEC, the girls return to the Liberty Division
to do battle with opponent teams in the county. The season shows promise as the Lancers look to return healthy
this year with many returnees from last year’s squad. The team should also benefit from some new talent eager
to earn a varsity spot. The coaching staff has challenging yet attainable goals for the lady lancers this season, as
they look to show improvement on the Conference, County and State levels building off the 2017season which
though fraught with injuries and some low points also had some bright spots and good memories. The squad will
be competing in dual, invitational and championship meets on the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity levels. Many
of the girls have been working all summer long to better their chances of obtaining the team goals. The schedule
includes clashes with some of the top teams in the state which should prepare the squad for the championship
season.

The team should benefit from returning senior Captain Samantha Keenan along with juniors Erin
Chang and Shannon O’Connor who were top 7 finishers last season. Sophomore Katrina Leigh, who had a stellar
rookie year, last fall, is back along with fellow sophomore Elianna Bershad also a regular in the top 7 last season.
These girls are eagerly looking forward to another season of hard racing in the woods. The addition of newcomer,
freshman Jordan Mason should positively impact the program during the 2018 campaign as she has looked good in
their summer training runs. Senior Rachel Drill, Juniors Ririko Nakayama, Celeste Calderon and Sophomore s Gloria
Liu and Ashley Pearl could also make strong contributions to the success of this season.

The lancers while returning some strong competitors will also be working on developing more depth and
consistency throughout the lineup. This includes some returners and some new additions to the roster such as,
Carolina Lima, Katrina Pham, Jordyn Sharon, Shaney Sharon, Kayla Hudson, and Samantha Lee. A group of frosh
including Christie Cenesus, Sasha Culver, Rhea Joshi, Elizabeth Tesoriero and Xiao Yuyang will also be looking to
develop and contribute during their first XC season which should make this a memorable one.

The squad is finishing up its preseason summer training program laying a base for the fall training and racing
schedule. The teams’ success will depend on a strong focused work ethic throughout the line-up, staying healthy,
believing in each other and developing confidence in their own abilities. If everyone does their part to contribute to
the team goals then the individual goals will take care of themselves. Coach Czeizinger, Coach Memory and Coach
Chaudruc are all looking forward to working with the team to reach its goals and enjoy a memorable season.

LADY LANCER FIELD HOCKEY

The Livingston Field Hockey team is excited for the start of the 2018 season. With 13 returning Varsity
players the girls are hopeful for a competitive season where they can limit their opponents’ chances and
increase their opportunities in the offensive end of the field. Seniors Juliette Banner, Sheena Cainglet,
Dylan Dansky, Sarah Haber, Caitlin Huang, Rachel Leibel, Juliet Nangini, Melanie Sanoff and Emily
Schaefer look to lead their underclassman teammates with skill, passion and poise. With 26 juniors, 12
sophomores and 11 freshman this is the largest the field hockey program has been in over ten years and
will rely on the leadership of their seniors to help the program develop into a cohesive unit.

Junior returners, Mia Bucich, Isabella Freschi, Chloe Heller, Lauren Kravetz, Jaynie Leavy, Grave
Levey, Briana Melucci and Amanda Weissman all look to build off their Varsity experience from last year
and excel at their positions this fall. Junior Meghan Kelly will be the backbone for the Lancers as she will
look to defend the cage against some of the top teams in the state.

Highly motivated underclassman Madelyn Arsht, Christina DiTonno, Brianna Flaherty, Halle Goldberg,
Tammy Cheng, Jesse Halper, Alie LeFrancis, Jaclyn Lockwood, Jamie Mager, Rachel Meller, Shreya
Pandya, Lauren Rakow, Samara Rhodes, Nicole Vindici, Devin Wiseberg, Olivia Coughlin, Rebecca
Cullen, Joey Dallow, Nicole DePalma, Sofia Joachim, Liora Katz, Maya Katz, Molly Kerr, Isabel Kudish,
Kaley Lowenberg, McKenna Prial and Jordyn Zucker will continue to challenge each other on the field
while working hard to earn their spot come game day. Many will contribute value minutes on the Varsity
level this season.

The Lady Lancers are happy to welcome the following incoming freshmen MacKenzy Alexander,
Abra Attoh, Meadow Geltzeiler, Sydney Greenspan, Allison Haber, Jessica James, Talia Kaplan, Jillian
Klein, Samantha Russo, Ally Weissman and Cindy Wong. We can’t wait to see what they will accomplish
throughout the season as their work ethic and dedication has been stellar this preseason.

With 13 returners and over 30 girls looking to earn a spot at the Varsity level, the future is bright for
Lancer Field Hockey Program. With their goal being to play with intensity for 60 full minutes the girls will
need manager and motivator, junior Mary McNany, to cheer them on for her third straight year. Good luck
to all the Lancer programs. GO LANCERS!

BOY’S SOCCER

The team will be competing in the American Conference of the SEC, which is probably one of the top three
conferences in the State of New Jersey. Teams to beat in the conference once again will be Seton Hall Prep,
Essex County Champion Newark East Side, and power houses West Orange, Montclair, and Millburn. West
Essex is primed for a breakout year so it’s going to be a difficult season game in and game out with very few
breaks on the schedule.
We will be looking to keep the games close, limit our opponent’s chances, and hopefully strike when given our
opportunities. If we can play together as a team and work hard for eighty minutes we may be able to surprise
some of the teams who are favorites to challenge for the conference title.
