Our Dad

He never looked for praises
He was never one to boast
He just went on quietly working
For the ones he loved the most.
His dreams were seldom spoken
His words were very few
And most of the time his worries
Went unspoken too.
He was there… A firm foundation
Through all our storms of life
A sturdy hand to hold on to
In times of stress and strife.
A true friend we could turn to
When times were good or bad
One of our greatest blessings
The man that we called Dad.

Awaiting the New Body (viii) When the Day of Toil is Done (Tune: Irene)
For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, 1. When the day of toil is done,
we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven,
not built by human hands. 2 Meanwhile we groan, longing When the race of life is run,
to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, 3 Father, grant Thy wearied one
because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. Rest for evermore.
4 For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, 2. When the strife of sin is stilled,
because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed When the foe within is killed,
instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal Be Thy gracious word fulfilled-
may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now the one who has Peace for evermore.

At the breaking of the day, Beside the Syrian sea
Bid us hail the cheering ray- The gracious calling of the Lord,
Light for evermore. Let us, like them, without a word,
Rise up and follow Thee.
4. When the heart by sorrow tried
Feels at length its throbs subside, 3. O Sabbath rest by Galilee!
Bring us, where all tears are dried, O calm of hills above,
Joy for evermore. Where Jesus knelt to share with Thee
The silence of eternity,
5. When for vanished days we yearn, Interpreted by love!
Days that never can return,
Teach us in Thy love to learn 4. With that deep hush subduing all
Love for evermore. Our words and works that drown
The tender whisper of Thy call,
6. When the breath of life is flown, As noiseless let Thy blessing fall
When the grave must claim its own, As fell Thy manna down.
Lord of Life, be ours Thy crown-
Life for evermore. Amen. 5. Drop Thy still dews of quietness,
(ix) Dear Lord and Father of Till all our strivings cease;
Mankind (Tune: Repton) Take from our souls the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
1. Dear Lord and Father of mankind, The beauty of Thy peace.
Forgive our foolish ways;
Reclothe us in our rightful mind; 6. Breathe through the heats of our desire
In purer lives Thy service find, Thy coolness and Thy balm;
In deeper reverence, praise. Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
Speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm.
Amen.

(x) Fading Away Like the Stars of the Morning 19. Psalm 23 – To be sung by the Choir
(Tune: Remembered)
(Arranged by Howard Goodall)
1. Fading away like the stars of the morning, 20. Notices
Losing their light in the glorious sun- 21. Closing Hymn
Thus would we pass from the earth and its toiling,
Only remembered by what we have done. Abide with Me, Fast Falls the Eventide
Chorus: (Tune: Eventide)
Only remembered, only remembered, 1. Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
Only remembered by what we have done; The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide;
Thus would we pass from the earth and its toiling, When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Only remembered by what we have done. Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
2. Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
2. Shall we be missed though by others succeeded, Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Reaping the fields we in springtime have sown? Change and decay in all around I see;
No, for the sowers may pass from their labours, O Thou who changest not, abide with me.
Only remembered by what they have done. 3. I need Thy presence every passing hour;
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power?
3. Only the truth that in life we have spoken, Who like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Only the seed that on earth we have sown; Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.
These shall pass onward when we are forgotten,
Fruits of the harvest and what we have done.

8

4. I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

5. Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes,
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies;
Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

22. Prayers And Benediction
