Chapter Fourteen
How to Insert Google Adsense Ad Codes, Infolinks Code and Other

Advertising Codes to your Blog

After creating, designing, writing contents and generating enough traffic, you might want
to monetize your blog. A very popular and easy way to monetize a blog is through
Google Adsense Program. However, Google Adsense is not the only way to make
money with one’s blog. There are several alternatives to Adsense but I will not be talking
on how to make money blogging in this chapter. I guess you already knows how to, but if
you did not know already, you can find resources online that can teach you how to do that
but you have to be very careful because there are many scammers out there. My personal
blog www.ososo.com.ng also contains enough free articles you can read up in other to
make money online or you can make a private request to me for a session with you.

Now to our topic of the day, let us start with Google Adsense. So, how can we insert
Google Adsense ad codes into our new WordPress blog?
There are two ways to do this:

 Manually insert the ad codes yourself or
 By using an Advertisement Plugin.
I will be talking extensively on both methods and how you can do it effectively without
breaking your WordPress blog codes.
First, I will start with manual method because that is what I use mostly because it helps
me reduce the number of plugins I have to install. Don’t forget, too much of plugins is
not good for your blog because it will reduce the loading speed of your blog.

How to Manually Insert Google Adsense Code into WordPress Blog

Using Advertisement Plugin to Insert Ad Code

This method is very simple and has nothing to do with theme’s files or code. Just copy
your Adsense code and paste it into the plugin, that is all. A very good plugin I can
recommend for this purpose is the Easy Adsenser Plugin You can upload it and activate it
to start using it to insert ads into your blog. Follow the normal way of installing a plugin
(which I have explained above) to upload, install and activate this plugin. Then go to the
set up page to add your Adsense codes. However, if you do not want to use the
recommended plugin, you can still search for other Advertisement Plugins, install it and
make good use of it.

How to Add Infolinks Codes

Infolinks is not like Adsense, but you can still add it to your blog via the theme’s files.
You can get the instructions from the infolinks page. However, infolinks has a plugin for
inserting there code into your blog. Search for it in the Install Plugin page and install it.
Then copy the 2 code infolinks will give you into it respective boxes and save. Then wait
for few minutes, infolinks ads will start to show up on your blog. Some effective tips you
should take note about Infolinks are:

 You should choose the Tag Cloud so as to increase earnings
 Make use of the Cloud Box
 Restrict ads to post only. That is, remove ads from sidebars, header and footer.
 Restrict number of ads to been shown inside post to 10 so that it would not over-

shadowed your content.

I believe you should be able to do all these on your own. Follow this path if you have
other type of advertisements you might want to insert into your blog.

Chapter Fifteen
How to Create and Add a Favicon to Your WordPress blog

Favorite Icon, populary known as favicon, shortcut icon, website icon, URL icon, or
bookmark icon, is a 16x16 or 32x32 pixel square icon associated with a particular
website. It is the tiny image displayed in your browser‟s window, behind your website
URL.

The favicon, which was standardized by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in the
HTML, is what makes your website or blog stand out among bookmarked sites. It also
makes you a professional and distinguishes your blog among all other visited sites in a
tab. If you visit facebook.com, the “f” symbol beside the URL is favicon. See the image
below for an example of my blog and Gmail favicons:

I believe you now understand what I meant by favicon. You might be thinking that who
cares about a site icon. But believe me, as small as that icon is, it helps in a lot of ways.
Although there are various useful articles on how to create and add favicon to a
WordPress blog on the Internet but I will take my time to illustrate to you with enough

pictorial views.

So to get your own blog favorite icon, follow the steps below:
The first thing first is to get our image ready. This can be anything, your photo, the
initials of your blog name, or just any image. But I advised you use customized image not
just any image from the internet. For the purpose of this tutorial, I will be creating a very
simple image with Paint. This is what I have just created:

Image here
It is not compulsory you use words. I can change it to use just “S” or “T”. Just anything
that is okay with you. I used Paint to create the image. To find Paint on your PC
(Windows), click Start, select All Programs, click Accessories and then click Paint. You
can use other graphic software (like Photoshop) to do the same.

The next thing is to convert this image into a favicon format which is .ico. I have created
the above image from Paint and it is in .png. To make the favicon works, it must be in
.ico. So to convert our image to an .ico format, visit www.favicon.cc.

On the site, click Import Image to get to where we will upload our newly created image.

Click the Browse button to choose the image from your PC, tick the Shrink to square icon
radio button, then click Upload. The resulting page should look like this:

Right on that page, you should see how your favicon will look like. If you are satisfied
with it, click Download Favicon and save it on the Desktop of your PC for easy access. If
you check the favicon we just downloaded, it will be named favicon.ico automatically.
This is how our image looks like after converting it to an .ico format:

Now we need to upload this new favicon.ico to our server. To do this, log into your
cPanel, under Files, click File Manager.

A pop-up box will appear, choose your domain name, tick Web Root, and then click
OK.

That should land you on the File Manager page where you will see your blog files. At
the top of that page, click Upload.

A new tab will open showing the Upload page, enter 755 in the value by the right, then
click Browse to choose the favicon.ico from your PC.

After choosing the file to be uploaded, wait for few seconds, it will start uploading and
when it has uploaded successfully, click back to /home/… This will close the page and
lead you back to the File Manager page. The File Manager page will reload and by the
time is refreshed; you should see the uploaded favicon.ico image in the list.

As you can see in the image above, our favicon.ico image has been uploaded. See what
the arrow is pointing at, it is the new favicon.ico image.

NOTE: Nowadays, most themes come with their own default favicon. But it is advisable
to change it to your own personalized image. In this case, when uploading your
favicon.ico, you should replace the default image with yours.

Next, go to your WordPress Dashboard, under Appearance, click Editor. On the Editor
page, click Header (header.php) and look for this code:
<link rel="shortcut icon" and ends with /favicon.ico" />
Replace the above code with this one:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" />
That is it.

Our favorite icon should now be displaying beside our blog URL. Although in some
cases, it takes time for the icon to show up, you should hard-refresh your blog page by
pressing CTRL+F5. If that did not solve it, clear your Browser Cache and reload the
page. If still, the icon does not show, wait for few hours for it to show. If it did not show
up after waiting, check your site with another Browser and if it still does not show, that
means you did not do it right. Go back and read this tutorial well, and then follow the
steps I have highlighted.

Chapter Sixteen
How to Move from BlogSpot to WordPress

After the first version of this ebook, I realized that the #1 most asked question I have
been getting is “how do I move my blog from blogger.com to WordPress.org”? So I
thought I should include this topic in the updated version of this ebook. This agrees with
the founder of WordPress, Matt Mullenweg's claim that over 1000 Blogspot blogs move
to WordPress per day. So if you are still on blogger, you might think of getting yourself a
WordPress blog today.

It is clear that most bloggers tend to start out a simple blog using www.blogger.com but
when the blog starts growing and becoming popular, you also will want to enlarge.
Finding a more complicated blogging platform and functions surely will lead you to
WordPress. Therefore, if you find yourself in this position, worry less. It is very simple.
Just follow simple guidelines and you are done. However, it should be noted that you
need to install a WordPress blog before you can move your blog. See earlier topics on
how to do this.
See below simple steps to move your .blogspot.com blog to WordPress.

 In your WordPress Admin, go to Tools and click Import.
 Click “Blogger” and on the pop-up click “Install Now”.
 Click “Authorise” to tell Blogger to let WordPress access your account.
 This will transfer you to a Google Account page. Click on “Grant Access”.
 You will see the Posts and Comments on your Blogger blog. Click “Import”.
 Assign the imported posts to your Author Name on your WordPress blog.
That is all. So simple right? Yes.

Chapter Seventeen
All Set Up Now. What Next?

Congratulations friend. You can now create a WordPress blog and design it just like a
professional, from scratch. Now, here comes the question, “What Next”?

Yes, what is the next thing? Since your WordPress is now standing, what else do you
need to do?

Firstly, the next thing is TRAFFIC.

Yes, the next thing is traffic after you must have designed and posted some articles on the
blog. Traffic has been the headache of every bloggers and webmasters. You need to let
people know that your blog exist. If you have the best designed blog in the world and no
one knows about it, it is as dead as a useless blog out there. Getting traffic is not a day
job. You have to work towards it. I will not be talking much on traffic in this ebook
because I have included a bonus ebook that talked about getting free traffic to a new blog.
But most important things are getting backlinks and working to make sure your blog is
search engine optimized because organic traffic is the best you can have.

You can also find many free resources on how to get targeted traffic to your blog on the
internet.

Secondly, you can monetize your blog.

It is advisable to let your blog grow before trying to monetize it because traffic matters.
Usually, I let my new blogs reached at least a hundred visit per day before monetizing
them. I do monetize my blogs with Google Adsense, PPM Advertising Programs, affiliate
Programs and of course my products and services. However, there are several different

means to monetize a blog, which ranges from Google Adsense to PPC and all the way to
Affiliate Programs.

You can find free resources online. Search them and read them up for your own digest.
For my personal reference, you can check out how to monetize your WordPress blog
here: www.sojblog.com/adsense-tips and also here www.sojblog.com/make-money-
online.

Thirdly, keep tweaking and designing your blog.

My dear friend, you can never be satisfied with the look of your blog. Even Google
changes their sites once in a while. If you installed a particular theme today, you might be
okay with it, but later in life you might come across a wonderful theme that you‟d love to
use on your blog. Then, that is when you will think of changing the look of your blog. Or
you might want to add some kind of functions or gadgets to it, go on and keep tweaking
and get the most out of your blog. There is no limit to what extent you can tweak and
design your WordPress blog.

Fourthly, keep writing contents.

This is very important if you are a blogger. If you are creating a blog for the purpose of
blogging, you need articles on it. Without writing, there is no blog. Do not just keep
writing alone, you need quality and unique contents. Do not copyarticles from other
blogs, you will be doing yourself more harm than good. When you are writing a post,
have SEO in mind. Write for both Search Engines and human visitors of your site. And in
no time, you will be getting enough traffic to your new blog.

Five, design WordPress blogs for others and make money from it.

Learn this ebook very well, start with your own blog, designed it to your taste and make
it good looking. Then you can offer the same service to others who are looking for
someone to help them create a WordPress blog. Although, I sold this ebook to you at the
rate of N5, 000 but believe me, I design blog for my clients at the rate of N30,000 to
N50,000 depending on the client and what they want. And everything I do to create the
blog is what I have included and taught in this ebook. So learn it to be an expert, then you
can make money from it by doing the same to others.

Chapter Eighteen
Conclusion

I feel like writing on and on but I have to bring this ship to the shore. I want to believe
you have learnt a lot from this ebook. Although I actually took my time to explain every
bit of it, I recommend you read this ebook line by line if you really want to be a pro in
designing WordPress blogs.

With the information you have just read, you are now a certified WordPress builder and
designer. You can now go ahead to create and design a WordPress blog like a
professional.

I strongly urge you to start today. Do not procastinate. Get yourself a domain name and
hosting, install your first WordPress blog and start designing. Within a week, your blog
should be up and running. Once again, I want to thank you for taking the step to learn
how to create and build a WordPress blog.
