I FELT AT HOME STUDY IN
AT AWANUIĀRANGI WHAKATĀNE.

I loved the experience of studying ENQUIRE NOW
in this programme. I felt at home at FOR 2020.
Awanuiārangi. The wānanga
incorporates te reo and tikanga
Māori and I felt a connection to all
of the papers because of the
inclusion of Māori pedagogy.

The lecturers are amazing. They know exactly
what it takes to be teachers in early childhood
and primary schools. Being able to learn online
and through block learning was so much more
efficient for me as a working Māmā of three
tamariki. I was able to work, look after my
tamariki and gain a degree at the same time. It
was hard work, but worth it. You learn so much
more when you're having fun, and with the
lecturers and your classmates, you can achieve
together. We supported each other to get over
the line.
Practicum (classroom experience) was a
challenge, yet I learned so much on my three
practicum. Completing this degree was definitely
a milestone. I feel like I can attain whatever I put
my mind to, and I am confident in my teaching
skills. I am studying for a Master of Indigenous
Studies now, and I’m learning so much more.
I love it!

CAPRESE SALAD

The first thing I do when I arrive in Italy is go to the Mozzarella Cheese
Factory and make my favourite Caprese salad!

Pour in 3 tsp (or 15 ml) of Renco
(rennet). Stir well and microwave for
1 minute on High.

Step 4:

When you remove the milk mixture
from the microwave you will see it
has turned solid. Now you need to
separate the cheese from the whey.

Gently scoop out the cheese and
place in a basket/strainer. Turn the
basket in a round motion, gently, to
remove all excess liquid. Place back
in a dish and microwave for a further
one minute.

Step 5: Moulding the Mozzarella!

Drain any excess liquid. Boil the jug.
Place the cheese back in the dish.
With a wooden spoon press the
cheese up against the inside walls of
the dish. What you are trying to do is
make a shiny coat on the cheese.

If the cheese appears to be a little firm
add small amounts of hot water from
the jug. This will help to soften the
cheese and make it easier to handle.

Start to shape the cheese with a
wooden spoon by repeating the
process of pressing the cheese
against the inside walls of the dish.
