RID OF RATS! GET RID OF RATS!
Narrator Panisarra: The Mayor heard the shouting of the mob and
came out.
Mayor Touchtan: What is the matter?
Chiwattanai: (angrily) Please do something about the rats. They
were affecting our lives already.
Chatchanok: (angrily) Do something as soon as possible, or you will
be replaced!
Tanpichamanee, Pitchaporn, Thanakorn: (crying) We cannot
play anymore!!
Warayut: (Limping and trying to join) I don't have any candies for
them anymore.
Mayor Touchtan: We will have a meeting to find a solution. Give us
some time.

SCENE 4
Narrator Panisarra: The people were convinced by the Mayor's

words. The Mayor arranges a meeting with a council.
Mayor Touchtan: Good morning, everyone. As you all know, our
town was infested by rats, and everyone is now affected.
Chicha, Saranda, Pimchanok: (worried) Yes, rats are
everywhere…

5

Mayor Touchtan: Now, let us think about how we should deal with
this.
Chicha: Let us set traps for the rats.
Mayor Touchtan: Oh no. There are thousands of rats. We won't have
enough traps.
Saranda: How about we beat them to death?
Mayor Touchtan: Oh no! There are thousands of them. Our town will
be flooded with blood.
Pimc hanok: How about we burn them?
Mayor Touchtan: Oh no! Our houses may burn, too.
Chicha, Saranda, Pimchanok: Then what can we do now??
Pimchanok: (insisting) Show us the way…

SCENE 5
Narrator Panisarra: Even after lengthy discussion and hours of
debate. They couldn't find a solution to the problem.
Suddenly, there came a knocking on the door.
Mayor Touchtan: Come in!
Narrator Panisarra: a strange-looking man entered the room. He
was wearing a traditional dress, mostly in red, with a long peculiar
nose. He adorned his head with a feather in his hat. His fingers were
wiggling impatiently, as if playing in a pipe.
Nattakit Pied Piper: (Walking confidently, bringing a pipe with his
wiggling fingers)
Saranda: Have you run away from the circus?
Chicha, Saranda, Pimchanok, and Mayor Touchtan:
(LAUGHING)

6

Nattakit Pied Piper: People called me the Pied Piper. I can help you
with your problems. I assure you that not a single rat would live in this
beautiful town.
Mayor Touchtan: (questioning voice) But how do we believe you?
Nattakit Pied Piper: (confidently) Why don't we try?
Mayor Touchtan: Okay! Please show us what you can do.
Nattakit Pied Piper: Yes. But for that, I want ten bags of gold as a re
ward.
Mayor Touchtan: Yes, anything you want. What do you say, council
members?
Narrator Panisarra: The council approved the Mayor's decision.
Mayor Touchtan: You may start the work now.
SCENE 6
Narrator Panisarra: The Pied Piper stepped out on the street and
smiled. He pulled out his pipe quietly and started playing a strange
tune. In no time, all the rats started coming out and following him.
From every nook and corner of the town, many rats came out. Very
strangely,
the rats began following the pied Piper, who was playing the strangest
sound ever heard. The people of Hamelin were enjoying the site with
their eyes and mouth wide open.
Parents, children: Hoo ooooo! Haaaaaa!
Narrator Panisarra: The Pied Piper took them to the town river, and
he jumped on the stone in the water and stood on it, playing the pipe.
Rats blindly fell into the river and drowned. One after the other, they

7

were jumping into the water unknowingly. Soon there were no rats on
the bank. Hamelin was freed from rats.

Nattakit Pied Piper: (walking confidently)
Parents, children: Hoorayyy! Hoorayyy!
Chiwattanai: No more rats! No more rats!
Parents, children: Hoorayyy! Hoorayyy!
Narrator Panisarra: There were celebrations in town. Pied Piper went
back to the Mayor's office for a reward.
Nattakit Pied Piper: (happily) Mayor, I have done my job. It's time
for you to keep your promise. Please give me the prize.
Mayor Touchtan: You did a fantastic job, but ten bags of gold for a
task for a couple of hours is not worth it. It's a big amount of money to
pay in a day.
Nattakit Pied Piper: (getting angry) You are breaking your
promise.
Chicha: We will pay you for one bag of gold, which is more than
enough for a day's work.
Chicha, Saranda, Pimchanok: Yes, that's right!
Nattakit Pied Piper: (angry) this doesn't seem right. What a selfish
people are these? I help you, and now they care about being greedy
and ungrateful?
Mayor Touchtan: (angry) Take one bag of gold or leave the town.
Nattakit Pied Piper: (angry) I will teach you a lesson!
Narrator Panisarra: The pied Piper left the office.

8

SCENE 7
Narrator Panisarra: He came on the street and pulled out his pipe
again. He started playing again, a tune no one had ever heard. One by
one, the children turned their heads and began to walk toward the
pipe.
Pitchaporn: Woooooh!
Tanpichamanee: Wooooooow!
Thanakorn: Let’s go!!!!
Warayut: I have to walk fast….
Narrator Panisarra: The Piper started walking, and the children
followed him. Their parents and guardians were stunned by the tune
and couldn't move from their places. The Pied Piper made them numb.
Chiwattanai: ohhhhh! What in the world?!
Nitchaon: My child! Noooo!
Chatchanok: My dear! No!!!
Raksinari: Where are they going? No!!!
Narrator Panisarra: The Pied Piper walked across the river bridge
and marched toward the mountains. As he reached a mountainside, a
mysterious portal opened. The Piper went inside, and the children
followed him. The door shut tight behind them.
Warayut: (Walking as fast as he can but still too slow to keep
up with the group) ahh. Ahhh. Wait! Wait! pleaseeee!
Narrator Panisarra: The only one left outside the portal was a lame
boy with his cat who couldn't reach it before it got closed.
Kittiyapan Cat: Oh no!! They are gone now. Meowwwww! (Sad)

9

SCENE 8
Narrator Panisarra: As the tune stopped. The people ran towards
the mountain. They found only one child near the mountain, so they
asked about the other children.
Warayut: They all went into a portal, and it got shut before I could
reach it.
Chatchanok: But why were you all following him?
Warayut: That tone promised to lead us to a wonderland where all
chocolates, cookies, and cakes grew in trees. It even told me that I
could run on my feet everywhere.
Narrator Panisarra: The people felt sad and started crying for their
children, but it was useless.
Chiwattanai: (crying) ohhohoh! My child, come back, come back!!!!
ALL PARENTS: (Just crying loudly)
Narrator Panisarra: The Mayor also came and was blamed for
everything.
Mayor Touchtan (sad) I have lost my child, too.
(as if talking to the Pied Piper) I'm sorry for everything I've done. I
have brought you ten bags of gold. Please give us our children back.
Come back wherever you are, Pied Piper.
Narrator Panisarra: To their surprise, the Pied Piper came out
walking from behind the mountain. Everyone was relieved after seeing
him.
Mayor Touchtan: (sigh of relief) ohh! We are glad you came back.
Where are our kids?

10

Nattakit Pied Piper: They are all safe and happy. They will come
back once you have fulfilled your promise.
Narrator Panisarra: The Mayor gave him ten bags of gold, and
immediately the portal appeared in the mountain. Children came out
running and hugged their parents.
Thanakorn: Mommm!
Tanpichamanee Mother!!!
Pitchaporn: Father!!!
Mayor Touchtan: Pied Piper, I thank you on behalf of this whole
town. (Handshake)
Thank you for rescuing us from the rats and giving back our children. I
will never break a promise in the future.
Nattakit Pied Piper: You all will lose your children, and rats will also
come back.
Parents: What?????? Why????
Nattakit Pied Piper: Your city is so unclean. That attracts rats and
insects. They will spread diseases in your town, and soon your kids will
be sick. That will cause you to lose them.
Mayor Touchtan: (determined) I, the Mayor of this city, take
responsibility for keeping the city clean.
Raksinari: (determined) We will throw garbage in the dustbins
only.
Chatchanok: (determined) And do everything we can to keep our
city free from rats.
Nitchaon: Yes, that's right!
Chiwattanai: We will do that!

11

Nattakit Pied Piper: Okay, it's time for me to say goodbye.

SCENE 9
Narrator Panisarra: That night, the town rejoiced and celebrated like
a festival. It's still said that in the town of Hamelin, if you ever go and
listen carefully, you might hear the beauuutiful sound of the Pied
Piper.
