SCIENCE MUSEUM D E F I N I T I O N SCIENCE MUSEUM A museum is an institution dedicated to the study, collection, preservation, interpretation, and display of cultural artifacts and information for the benefit of present and future generations. Museums encourage diversity and long-term sustainability since they are open to the public and welcome everyone. They provide a range of opportunities for learning, leisure, reflection, and information exchange via their professional and ethical operations and communication with local communities. Science is the systematic study and explanation of the physical and social universe using a rigorous and evidence-based approach. Science museum is a kind of museum that gathers and exhibits artifacts that have scientific significance. (Our Definition of Science - the Science Council ~, 2020) (International Council of Museums, 2022) (“Science Museum - Definition, Meaning & Synonyms” ) 2
Prince Albert The Science Museum has been in operation for about a century and a half. Its roots may be traced back to the Great Exhibition of 1851, which was hosted in Hyde Park in the massive glass structure known as the Crystal Palace. The exhibition's success resulted in a considerable financial excess, which its sponsor, Prince Albert, thought should be utilised to create a number of educational institutions on surrounding territory. The earliest of them was the South Kensington Museum, which opened in 1857 on what is now the Victoria & Albert Museum grounds. The South Kensington Museum's earliest construction was an iron-framed structure covered in corrugated iron sheets. It was mostly an industrial and ornamental arts museum, but it also included a few scientific collections such as Animal Products, Food, Educational Apparatus, and Building Materials. BACKGROUNDS OF THE STUDY 1. 3. 2. 4. These museums aim to promote science education and inspire interest in STEM fields among visitors of all ages There has been growing interest in the use of science museums as informal learning spaces, particularly for students who may not have access to quality science education Research has shown that science museum visits can have a positive impact on student learning outcomes and attitudes towards science Science museums can enhance students' conceptual understanding of science topics and improve their scientific inquiry skills through engagement with interactive exhibits and hands-on activities Science museums are institutions that provide a unique learning environment for visitors to engage with science concepts through interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and live demonstrations. OBJECTIVES 1.To enhance students' understanding of science subjects through the method of science museum field trip experience. 2.To boost students' interest in science subject in a fun way. 7
Many students struggle to understand physics concepts when they are presented only as abstract theoretical ideas. This highlights the need to investigate how to make physics more accessible and engaging to students through hands-on and experiential learning activities.(De Cock et al., 2013) Students have a difficult time making connections between the theoretical concepts they learn in physics class and their everyday experiences and It is important to explore ways to help students bridge this gap in understanding and make physics more relevant to their lives.(Duit & Confrey, 2015). Students often struggle to visualize and understand abstract physics concepts when they are presented only through text and equations. This emphasizes the need for instructional strategies that utilize visual representations and real-world examples to help students better understand complex physics concepts.(Hestenes et al., 1992). PROBLEM STATEMENT 8
Guidebook School Edition INTRODUCTION A science museum is a place that promoting scientific knowledge through interactive exhibits, hands-on activities and engaging displays of objects for society to learn science in fun and interactive ways. It serves as a learning environment that suits all ages and backgrounds especially students to learn sciences as it sparks curiosity, inspires thinking and deepens scientific understanding. Introduced by Lev Vygotsky in 1968. According to Vygotsky, it was a learning theory that emphasizes learners construct their knowledge by actively engaging with their environment. Instead only receiving information, individuals continuously reflect based on experiences, make visual representations and add new information to their thinking. It encourages in-depth learning and understanding learning. (Mcleod, S.,2023). Moreover, constructivism helps in inquiry-based learning in student learning. As humans, it have been nature to be curious and eager to learn a new thing as it leads to questioning everything, and deciding while developing high-level thinking skills (Öztürk, B.,2022). social constructivism situated cognition and socio-cultural theory. 3 learning theories that can be related to learning in science museums were LEARNING THEORIES UNDERSTANDING THE NATURE OF LEARNING WITH SCIENCE MUSEUM LITERATURE REVIEW SOCIAL CONSTRUCTIVISM ( Martin Braund, 2004 , Martin et al, 2016) 9
Guidebook School Edition SITUATED COGNITION Situated cognition was the theory of learning that includes a social, cultural and physical setting where an individual doing something that involves the real and virtual world (Wilson, B. G., & Myers, K. M, 2000). Science museum provides students with realworld experiences games and accurate simulations with applying the knowledge and critical thinking skills (McMahon, M., 2023). Through active participation, students experience interactive displays with learning activities. Example; At school, students were taught the law of conservation of energy physics. Some activities in science museum provides deeper knowledge understanding to students. Learning in a science museum offers unique and valuable opportunities for students to engage with scientific concepts in immersive and interactive ways. Through hands-on activities, exploration, and collaborative experiences, students can actively construct their knowledge and develop a deeper understanding of science. UNDERSTANDING THE NATURE OF LEARNING WITH SCIENCE MUSEUM LITERATURE REVIEW SOCIO-CULTURAL T HEORY. The science museum environment was full of cultural symbols that offer educational opportunities. Some exhibitions feature outstanding cultural contributions, while others feature phenomena that the culture views as crucial to communicating with the public for their enrichment and knowledge (Bamberger, Y., 2009). This theory stated that learning in science museums enhanced students interact with displays and activities that were reflect their cultural and social experiences. Museums can contribute to the development of a more accessible and interesting learning environment through the incorporation of cultural and social aspects into science education. For instance, the theory of evolution. Evolution is a culturally and socially relevant topic that can be explored through interactive exhibits and activities at science museums which include a simulation of natural selection, or a display of fossil specimens that illustrate the diversity of life on Earth. CONCLUSION 10

Fun Activities TO DO AT PETROSAINS Press the start button Place the ball in the air stream. What happen when you gently push the ball? can you direct the air stream to move the ball through the loop? Pass the ball through the rings What to do? 1. 2. 3. What's going on? Moving air has different properties from still air and behaves in different ways. when you tilt the air stream, the ball still stays in the air. How does this happen? Air wraps around the ball. When the ball is near the edge of the air stream an unequal flow around the ball creates lift that pushes it back into the centre of the flow. Many science museums around the world feature exhibits dedicated to dinosaurs. These exhibits aim to educate visitors about the fascinating world of dinosaurs, their biology, and their place in Earth's history. Museums often feature lifesized or scaled-down models of dinosaurs to provide a visual representation of how these creatures looked in their natural environment. QUIZ A simple quiz is a short set of questions designed to test knowledge or understanding on a specific topic.
