West PlazaTulsa County Courthouse Site PlanThe Tulsa county courthouse aims to flatten the hierarchy that has been created in the judicial system throughout United States History. Flattening this systematic hierarchy can be done by designing a space that compels users to feel intertwined with the building and creating a welcoming garden space that Project Discription & VisionWest 6th Steetsurrounds the site. Courthouses are meant to be open to the public while still providing security for different types of use`rs. The plan is to provide wayfinding throughout the building that is safe, timely, and transparent for all users that helps bring the community together.

Tulsa is Oklahama’s second largest city and the 45th largest city in the United States. The history fo the justice system specifically in Tulsa, Oklahoma one is rich with racial injustice and long suffering of the black community there. The Tulsa Race Massacre, also known as the Black Wall Street Massacre, happened between May 31 and June 1, 1921. The event destroyed thirty-five to forty square blocks of the African American community in Tulsa. This event is relevant to the project as an attempt to unify the American people, especially black citizens, and the criminal justice system. 1. Archival Exhibition 2. Stairs1 11225

The Forgotten ARCHITECT of the CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT

PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND VISION The Bayard Rustin Museum is located in Fort Worth, Texas, adjacent from the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and the Kimbell Art Museum. This project focuses on the Black and African American experience in the United States, telling the story of those who have gone unheard. The purpose is to challenge the construct of white supremacy in the United States by created a BLACK space. Slavery and the continued racist culture today are a part of all US citizen's history and life. The main intention for the Bayard Rustin Museum is to encourage and enlighten a society to unify and bring an end to the severance mindset of such society. Bayard Rustin was an activist for civil rights and the LGBTQ+ community. He was known as the architect of many civil rights movements, such as the March on Washington and the first freedom ride. Even though he was a key component in the civil rights movement during his time, he was not recognized because of his homosexuality. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom only after he died. This museum is dedicated to Bayard Rustin because like him, there are too many untold narratives that make up our society and ventures beyond white America or even the \"typical\" black person. The museum is built on a white marble base representing the white foundation on which the United States is built on. The Black glass structure is the celebration space above the foundation to symbolize the unification to rise above a horrible past.

Unify and rise above horrible pastHistory and Culture Reveal history and culture The CrownFORMCelebrationSuppression of History and CultureWhite FoundationThe CrownCONCEPTThe Bayard Rustin Museum main premise is to tell the history and culture of African Americans. The form therefore starts by with a foundation representing African American terrible past. The museum physically rises above what is represented as the white foundation in which the U.S. was solely influenced by. White FoundationThe long history of abuse of African Americans within society creates dis-value. the ends of the risen form is extended out to represent a crown. This crown symbolizes and is a reminder of African Americans equivalence of self within society.Conceptually, the museum is broken into two parts. Those are; the suppression and the celebration of African American History and CultureThe African American history and culture is suppressed by the white foundation, representing the dynamics of whites and blacks in the U.S.The celebration space is form as a crown to symbolize the value within African Americans.33

LANCASTER AVE.The Bayard Rustin Museum is located in the Cultural Arts District of Forthworth, Texas. The district is known for the many museums including the famous Kimbell Art Museum. The Bayard Rustin Museum, faces south is located adjacent from the Modern Art Museum of Fortworth and the Kimbell Art Museum. The orientation of the Bayard Rustin Museum is situated facing south to affectively direct traffic between the three museums. Located on the site is the John Peter Smith Oak, \"one of the oldest living things in district.\" It was important to keep the tree and protect the heritage it holds within the area. therefore, the Heritage Tree serves as a place for contemplation and gathering, created by the center courtyard of the Bayard Rustin Museum. 34

For this project, I designed a chapel located on the west side of the University of Kansas’ campus. The site is located near an oncampus graveyard where many civil rights activists are buried. Their impact influenced my desiagn for this project. There are three words I chose to drive my design, that was inspired by what the civil rights activists stood for. Those are: CHANGE, DIVERSITY, and UNITY.MODEL MAKINGTHE UNIVERSITY OF KANSASA PLACE FOR CONTEMPLATION45
