German School Personalised Story –English

Raanya
has a

bad day

written by Annika Ouko • Illustrated by Charles Otieno

Reading to our children daily stimulates their
imagination, and expands their understanding
of the world. It also helps them develop
language, listening and social skills.

Finding books with educational and appropriate
content, as well as entertainment, is not easy.
German School Kindergarten and Peek-a-boo
have collaborated to create and develop a series
of personalised books, written by our educators,
we feel will be of good value to your child.

Each time your child reads or listens to a
book read to them, they learn more about
the story itself. Each pass through the words
or illustrations, allows them to dive deeper
into the story’s meaning, preparing them for
more complex narratives down the road.

Raanya
has a

bad day

written by Annika Ouko • Illustrated by Charles Otieno

Raanya is very annoyed this morning.
“Oh Raanya, don’t be so annoyed!“ Says Mama.
But Raanya is. Nothing is going her way.

She misses her toothbrush and the toothpaste lands on the sink.

She can’t put her leggings on because they seem
to have only one leg,

and although Raanya opens the yoghurt very carefully,
it spills everywhere. Everything is just going wrong
today.

“Just try again!“, says Mama.
And so Raanya tries again.

This time, Raanya gets the toothpaste
on the toothbrush. She gets both her legs
into her leggings and even manages
to open the yoghurt without spilling it.

“Great!“ says Papa praising her. But Raanya is still annoyed.

Raanya just wants to do things properly herself,
but now the sink and the table are dirty.

“If you are having a bad day, it is best to let your emotions out in sport”,
suggests Raanya’s brother. So Raanya decides to do some exercise.

First, she runs three laps around the garden.

Then Raanya kicks the football around.

She even hits the punching bag in her brother’s room.

After all of that, she is completely out of breath,
and her hands are hurting, but she is still annoyed.

“Try to relax, Raanya“, says Papa.
So Raanya tries to relax by reading a book.

She listens to Mama’s relaxation music.

Raanya even tries some of Papa’s yoga poses.

But then she loses her balance and falls on her knees.
Ouch! That’s painful.

Raanya is still annoyed and upset. She tries everything but nothing
works. Her parents and brother look at her helplessly.

“I had a bad day too“, says Mama.
“This morning, I could not find matching socks, the car did not start
and then I argued with a colleague at work!” Raanya looks surprised.
She did not know that Mama could have a bad day.

“I had a bad day too” says Papa.
“Today, I burned the food while cooking, I had a flat tyre
on my bike and then the strap of my bag broke.” So even Papa
can have a bad day. Raanya did not know that.

“And I had the worst day ever,” says Raanya’s brother.
“I forgot my lunch at home, I got rained on on my way back
from school and then there was spinach for lunch!”
Raanya laughs. She loves spinach.

Suddenly, they all have an idea.
They sneak up behind Raanya and
give her a long tight family hug.

Because this is what helps the most
when you are having a bad day
– the feeling that you are not alone.

Peek-a-boo-have partnered with educators
to create personalised books that are unique

- they all have a storyline that has key values
and lessons as an integral part of it – so parents
and grandparents can read these over and over
again knowing that the lessons each book is
imparting are key to the child’s development.

Each book comes together with its own unique,
special personality - just like your child’s. It is
developed, taking into consideration the child’s
needs and growth through educational
milestones.

Our books create a relationship with the child,
allowing them to become more than just objects
by invoking a relationship and connection which
will help encourage their love for reading.

We believe in the power and magic of books,
and even long after your child outgrows the
book, we are confident it will be one they
will cherish and keep forever.
