51 | Page What challenges did the group encounter if any? The limited funding from student life was a big challenge (we understand the reason why) it did force us to go out and be creative about fundraising for the organization. The limited funding made some of the goals look unachievable, but we did adapt and overcome. Student Veterans Organization No paperwork submitted Strong Women Achieving Total Success No paperwork submitted TRiO Trailblazers Gavel Club Accomplishments for the year? Students expressing themselves in open environment. What went well? The relationship between officers, especially when there was change between fall and spring semester. The dynamic between officers was beautifully diverse. What challenges did the group encounter if any? The budget was the biggest challenge, but we managed to overcome every financial obstacle in both semesters. Veterinary Technology Student Organization Accomplishments for the year? VTSO accomplished better teamwork when others felt overwhelmed. What went well? Many members enjoyed events that we hosted, which is ultimately what we wanted since our goal was to boost morale in our building. What challenges did the group encounter if any? Conflicting schedules made it hard to communicate to first- and second-year students all of the same information. We were not able to hold a meeting for all members since our lunch hours were at different times. We had to try to find other effective ways to get information our as e-mail, social media, and colorful posters on doors and in our locker room. Women’s Basketball Accomplishments for the year? New uniforms. All women are passing. Made the finals What went well? New uniforms. All women are passing. Made the finals What challenges did the group encounter if any? Not enough students participating made it difficult for the girls that we had.
52 | Page Women’s Volleyball Accomplishments for the year? The ladies learned to be responsible. What went well? We had enough girls that were interested in playing and wanted to be on the team. What challenges did the group encounter if any? We were unable to finish this season due to grades.

54 | Page Recreational Sports and Clubs Sports Teams Report Provided by Wellness Center Coordinator Kenyan Armstrong at Lone Star College-Tomball Sports Teams Overview: Basketball – Coach Christopher DeJesus finished out a great year with both teams, Men’s and Women’s Basketball. We lost a couple of players due to academics as well as try outs in the Spring. However, we finished out the year with both teams at the top of the seed. Also, winning the Spirit Award at the end of the year. One male basketball player was offered a scholarship to move on, which is a win for both the coach and LSC Tomball. Men’s Soccer – Coach Victor Martinez took the role as our new head Men’s Soccer coach this year, coming from his assistant coach position. The soccer team ended with a 2-3-2 record, with only 2 red card issues in games. Coach Vic did a great job for his first time in this position. Volleyball – Coach Alexis Bass took the role as our new Women’s Volleyball coach at the beginning of the fall semester. She did a great job for her first time in this position and getting the players to become competitive. As we transitioned over into the spring, after our first two games we had to forfeit our spring semester. We are in recruitment processes as of now. Recreational Sports Overview: When I started this position in managing Recreational Sports, I quickly realized that every campus is not the same when it comes to activities for students that students would like. Before I purchased any equipment, I put out multiple surveys for students to answer and was given quality feedback. After months of talking to different students, I discovered LSC Tomball is more about being outdoors and group activities. We did not have the equipment for adequate activities, so I made the decision to put Recreational Sports off until spring 2019. If I had purchased the equipment before doing these surveys, I would have wasted countless dollars on activities I thought students would have liked. In October 2018 I signed for my ProCard and did not receive it until the end of November 2018. When we came back after the break, we purchased equipment for Rec Sports. In March 2019, Recreational Sports took a slump on participants, even for my more popular activities. I asked around the campus and came to the conclusion that during that time, students want more off campus activities such as; Go-Kart Racing, Mini Golf and Paintball/Airsoft Tournaments like we have for all campuses during the fall and spring.

58 | Page A Look Forward for the Office of Student Life Lone Star College-Tomball • We will begin using BAND as a communication tool with our student organization members, leaders and advisor. This program has a web-based option and an app for use with student’s cell phones. We have struggled with our communication process and we believe this app will allow for twoway communication versus Student Life pushed communication. This program is free for students. \ • We will offer an information session for non-traditional students based on the feedback we received from the annual survey. These non-traditional aged students indicated that participation in student organizations was for younger students and they did not feel like they could or should participate. Of course, this is incorrect, so we will be hosting an information session for these students to encourage their involvement in our programs. • Wolf Pack Camp will be held on August 23rd for new LSC-Tomball students. This is the first time in five years we have hosted this event. The focus is connecting students to the campus by having student leaders, their fellow new students, faculty and staff engaging with them during the program and after the program. • Student Life and all of the RSOs will continue to track student attendance by using the scanners and student IDs. • Student Life will host a spring intern who is a master’s student at Sam Houston State University. Their focus will be building a leadership program for students who are not involved with a student organization.

There was often a few activities to choose from at events. During the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters food was completely out at a few events prior to the events end time. Consider having drink options for students and staff to choose from. Example at the Trevor Awards there was only cider choices on the table, but not everyone drinks cider products, tea was also an option but only unsweetened tea. • In the future if serving cider, serve sprite as well and have both in buckets of ice to keep the drinks chilled. 85 | Page 19.Please explain the reason for your rating. • The way it should be neutral for student life is always remember what you put out for the community • Because it's good for all reasons • "I suppose if it will foster and help the wellbeing and success of the students academically, it will be okay to be involve. • I think it’s very important but the school doesn’t offer things outside of business hours or weekend events. • When I was young I thought it was important. Now, I feel I am to old to really participate. • I took online classes this past semester so there was not much involvement at the college. • I know it is important but I am not always interested • College is cool and all, but a lot of students seem to just go to their classes and then go home. A college is more than just that to me. It's a place where ideas can flow, where young people have a real voice and can be heard by each other. It's where changes can be made for the better in this world, starting with the people that will eventually inherit this planet. For these reasons it is extremely important (in my opinion) that any and all students be involved (as much as they have the capacity to express) in any sort of out-of-classroom college involvement of any kind. • Some people cannot handle the stress of being involved in everything and still maintain good grades. It’s an individual thing not a generalizable thing. • It’s important because you need to know what’s going on on campus. I can not participate because I work full time and all of the events are during the day time. • I do feel like it is important and beneficial for one to be proactive outside of the classroom, but for me I picked neutral because although I have been proactive in many organizations, such as a UNICEF club in high school, I have chosen to keep being proactive to a minimal so I can also focus on my education here at LSC. That is why I picked neutral as my rating. • I feel age has too be my reasoning • looks good on transcripts • It makes “college life” more enjoyable because you get a sense of comradery. • It is important that students be involved in activities, it helps with them with social skills and becoming active meeting others around the same age. • It was okay at the same time it could have been better. • Process -- doing -- is important to the product. However, I also think some people can be successful without it and get involved in things outside the community. • I am not a part of student activities on a regular basis. SGA was great though. • They govern the student body, it is important to do well • I go to school, for one reason, to learn, not to play. • I feel this may be really important for younger students. I am 39 years old, I don't think there is value in it for me. • I do not attend most student events. • Being involved helps students stay energized throughout each semester. Staying connected in clubs give students a support group for themselves and allows students to have opportunities to encourage peers. • Helps you get involved and make friends • Students need to prioritize their academics before being in an organization or club. I understand that it's beneficial to be active but academics should always be first priority, especially since people are going to school to pursue a career that they enjoy, not participate in a club that will get them no where. I'm not against clubs and I would love to join one if there was one I was interested in but academics are way more important. • Being involved in on campus clubs can help you gain connections, skills and knowledge. • You should try to be involved to better yourself • I think it is very important to make Lone Star College not just a place that you go to take classes, but also a place where everyone feels like a cohesive entity and timberwolf. • Connections made here could lead to future job opportunities or scholarships.
