January 2017

Recently a question was posed by a church strategist to a pastor in England: “What is success for you and
your congregation?” The expert noted that the British pastor just stammered, and set his tea cup down with
a splat. Do we know what success looks like for our congregation? In the following interview with Pastor
Andy, you’ll learn about our new defining statements and why our Session has adopted them … and how they
help us spell out success with regard to the congregation.

Q: What would you say success is for you and our church? Q. Will our church slogan remain the same?
AR: In one word? Faithfulness. Christ calls us AR: Yes, because we think it is just right in
to be faithful, not successful. And so “success” has to be who we are:

At our Session retreat this past year, we discussed how our
previous purpose statement was a bit too, well, beautiful, or

Q: What is your hope for our new purpose statement?

Connect people with Jesus.

CONNECTING

What do you have that you would be
willing to share? All of us have certain skills,

interests, and experiences that we could share with
others in a way that blesses both them and us. It’s
amazing what happens when people use the gifts
God has given them. Take a look around the
Northminster community, and you’ll observe a
whole bunch of people giving of themselves and
serving in lots of different ways — big and small,
simple and complex, public and private, all of which
are important to our mission.

I’d like to introduce you to the Connect in
Fellowship Ministry. Below are a few of the
opportunities available to you through this ministry
to connect, grow and serve at Northminster. Please prayfully consider how your personal life with Christ may
be blessed and expanded by taking part in this ministry...
