Friends of the Largo Library
The Friends of Largo Library are excited to announce a new initiative
entitled “Bubbles and Books.” We are trying to encourage reading by
bringing books straight to the local laundromats in an aim to boost
literacy. Three local laundromats have received a bucket of carefully
chosen children's books. The targeted ages are 4-6 years old. We are
trying to encourage parent-child interaction which helps support brain
development. Picture books boost kids' brain function, gives them a
chance to explore, and visually engages the cognitive function of devel-
oping brains. According to the Clinton Foundation, the average family
spends 2 hrs. per week at their local laundromat and may bring their
children with them. If some books disappear, no worries, more will ap-
pear. There is no cost to the laundromats. Learning can happen anytime
and anywhere, and we are proud to start this new project for the City of
Largo and the Largo Public Library.
OCTOBER PREVIEW
Please join us in celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Friends of the Largo
Library. The celebration will be held in the Largo Library lobby on Wednesday,
October 23rd from 11 AM to 1 PM. Join us to hear more about how the Friends
benefits your library. We will have a sweet treat to share, as well as, drawings
for gift certificates for the Friends Bookstore and the upcoming Winter Book
Sale in January 2020.

Greater Largo Library Foundation
The Greater Largo Library Foundation would like to thank our donors for their support of
the Bookmobile. We are happy to report that the goals for the bookmobile have been met and
funds are in place for its annual operations for the next 5 years. The Foundation could not have
accomplished these goals without you!
The next time you visit the library please take a moment to stop by and see the meaningful
tributes engraved on the bricks surrounding the planter boxes. Last month 29 new bricks were
put into place! The “Buy a Brick Campaign” continues to be a successful fundraising initia-
tive which supports library programs and outreach services to our community. The brick you
purchase will be prominently placed in the front of the library. Order forms are available at the
circulation desk or contact [email protected] for more information.
Your support of the Foundation enables the library to continually expand and grow. Watch for

IN MEMORIAM
Phylis Boksen passed away on June 20th. She was the Raymond James
Financial Advisor for the Greater Largo Library Foundation. Phylis was
our constant friend and supporter. Her financial expertise successfully
guided us through the good and bad times for more than a decade. Phylis
and her husband Frank, not only attended all our fundraisers but were
also ambassadors of the library's goals to a wide audience. Phylis' legacy
of helping people will live on here at the Largo Public Library through her
daughter, Foundation Board member Honor Rogers. The Foundation has
purchased a commemorative brick to honor Phylis and her love of the Largo Public Library.
